Yes Chartered Accountancy is overrated because:It doesn't have management quota so it is very easy to buyout degreeUnfortunately, it is deprived of caste based reservation. Hence, only “merit merits attention” Its pretty embarassing for CAs that even IITs/IIMs have quotas but ICAI hesitates to allow them.The passing criteria (50%in aggregate) does not follow ATKT system (keeping backlogs) akin to other courses which makes it a cakewalk to crack the exams.The curriculum is proactively updated and kept in sync with market .This flaw makes CA education outdated.The articleship training (3Y) being one of its kind just adds fuel to the fire as it aims for making candidates job ready as soon as they qualify.Lastly, the passing percentage “No comments”

Do you think that the current engineering syllabus is outdated?

At the undergraduate level, the purpose of an engineering curriculum is not to make you current in any particular field. That is a constantly moving goalpost. The purpose of an undergraduate engineering curriculum is to develop a toolbox and skills that can then be used to solve problems in any particular field.Mostly that is basic math and science that doesn't really change: Calculus, stoichiometry, statics and dynamics, and thermodynamics don't really change. There are of course exceptions - if your materials class doesn't extensively cover composites, get a refund.So, I wouldn't say that the subject matter needs to change - but the implementation certainly could - to provide more motivating context. For example, engineering curriculum needs to have course(s) in programming to develop the algorithm development skills of the students. In my program, the only option to us was Fortran - a language we were almost guaranteed would not be in use by the companies that hired us. My school should have been proactive and modified the course to use something more contemporary, like C++. We still got the basics we needed, but wasted effort on syntax that didn't benefit us, later. Universities can always do a better job of keeping track of the tools used in industry and apply those tools in the basic learning.The reality is that not every job will need much of what you learned, so the curriculum will feel outdated or irrelevant. In 15 years as a paid engineer, I have never had to solve a Taylor series. But somewhere out there are engineers that are solving Taylor series.
