Soccer Camps: Fill & Download for Free

Long story short, I was recruited while on a second date. This is what happened:About four years ago, I was working at World Cup Soccer Camps in Los Gatos. I was the only salaried employee for three years, running 117 camps in 31 cities. I really liked the company but was ready for something new.I was at work one day, and the guy who I had been on a first date with texted me at about 3pm inviting me to go to a nice dinner that evening. He explained that his friend was a Michelin rated chef and that it would be well worth it to go with him.I was scheduled to give blood with my mom that evening so was hesitant to bail on her last minute. After some persuading, he convinced me to go. So I rushed home as soon as the workday was over and we arrived at Chez TJ by 6pm. It turns out that it was a mixed food tasting and wine pairing dinner for a group of about 15 people.I was chatting with the people at the table around me including a nice woman named Sarah Smith. At the time, I had no idea that she ran the HR/Recruiting functions at Quora. She asked me what I did and I told her I was an office manager at a soccer camp and that I was looking for something new. She told me that the timing couldn’t have been better because Quora was looking for an office manager. So we exchanged information and I sent her my resume the next day. I started the interview process the next week and received an offer shortly after.Working at Quora has completely changed my life. I have met so many great people, learned so much in my role, and am so grateful for the way things turned out.

I was at a summer soccer camp in 2012, and everyone was hispanic. I was the only caucasian looking person there.It was my first day, and I was an extremely nervous little 12 year old eager to learn new soccer skills. Everyone spoke Spanish there, and assumed because of my white skin and blonde hair that I wasn’t hispanic or spoke Spanish.The coach called a lineup and we lined up on the left side of the goal. We were going to go forward with the ball and then kick it into the goal from where the cone was placed. It was right before lunch and the coach said to all of us, “If you kick it in, you can go to lunch.”The soccer camp consisted of about 15–20 guys (14–18 years old) and 4 girls (15–17 years old) including me. It was almost my turn to go and there were guys both in front and behind me. Right before I went, the guys behind me were whispering in spanish betting on if I would make it or not. They didn’t believe I would. They called me a gringa and that’s what infuriated me the most. The term gringo/gringa is used against white anglo or perceived anglo types, so that infuriated me, because I knew I wasn’t a gringa, and I’m still not. My turn came, and right before I started pushing forward, I turned around and said, “Soy Mexicana, y hablo español. Callense.” (I’m Mexican, and I speak spanish. Shut up.) I went forward and handled the ball perfectly then kicked it into the goal far away and casually walked with my hands in my pockets straight to lunch. I looked behind me to them, and the look on all of their faces was just priceless. Lunch time passed, and they were still trying to kick the ball into the goal. It took them a while.The best feeling is surprising someone with something they didn’t expect about you - especially when they have preconceived notions about who you are.Best thing ever.

Repeal it. The importance of an endangered species is measured by how much people are willing to pay property owners to not develop that land, or to develop it in a way that does not harm the species. This indicates importance better than voting since it requires people to consider trade-offs. Do I value the habitat for some endangered mollusk more than my child’s soccer camp? If so, I will direct my money in that direction. If not, I won’t.
