Before he was in power, only 25% of Libyans were literate.He executed one of the World’s largest irrigation canal project in Libya[10] .Up to US $5,000 child support payment (a small fixed amount paid monthly up to certain age totaling 5,000).Cheap petrol - between US$ 0.1–0.3/litre, was US$ 0.14 in 2011[11] .Homelessness almost wiped out - which was very common before Gaddafi[12] .Libya have hardly had any external debt[13]throughout his rule and had a forex reserves amounting to around $70 billion in 2015 (was higher before the conflict) and $67 billion dollar of national sovereign fund (now frozen) which is huge for a country of its size[14]. Compare that with huge debts in the region[15].Overall economic health of Libya under Gaddafi was better for the most part compared to those from the same region. Libyan GDP per capita between 1964–1984 made Libya more prosperous than EU in Purchasing Power Parity term[16] . Even after years of civil war, it is better than all countries in the region.He maintained an oasis of peace in a volatile region and oversaw the most stable possible gateway to Europe - like a cork in a well shaken bottle of champagne.I have an acquaintance who worked in Libya for 4 years and he told me the Libyan management was extremely welcoming and generous and Libyan people happy. He also told me people felt free enough to discuss politics and gossip about Gaddafi in private, a trait missing in many of modern dictatorship - like China. He also painted a secular picture of Libya where people of all faith were safe. Crime was also very low. On the flip side, to keep crime low, and to intimidate opposition, Gaddafi’s regime often resorted to extrajudicial killings and prisoner execution, not too different from what Rodrigo Duterte is doing in Philippines these days.Look at Libya now. It lies in ruin. Most of his legacy is under threat. His main fault why he became enemy number one for United States and its allies? He dreamed of an African Union, with a Gold backed Dinar as common currency, thereby challenging the use of US Dollar as reserve currency in Africa[17][18] . Libya under Gaddafi had 413 tons of gold and same amount of silver (this is a very high number per capita) to be used for this Gold backed currency[19][20] .Any country with dictatorship, even well governed dictatorship, will have a class of people who would want to assume power, or be the next dictator. It’s not hard to find. Some of the more ambitious ones might just be in “exile” in a foreign nation. From within a nation state that becomes a threat to the status quo in economic or military order, such elements are hand-picked, made poster boy of “freedom”, the incumbent regime is vilified by digging up old shit which suddenly becomes important, and the “regime” toppled in due course.Was he a good person? He had the extremes of good and bad traits - both traits were amplified, him being a dictator.Did he do justice to his people? If they were in his wrong side - no. But, he did unprecedented good as well.Is the level of his vilification justified? No. Let the truth be told covering all aspects.Edit: Added more references. You now have this massive spider web on your face ready to trap anything you put near it. Toast, soup, cereal, beer – yup, your beard wants to catch it all.But there are some techniques and ways to help reduce these issues when it comes to drinking and eating with a beard.Drinking:When possible use a straw, bottle or coffee mug. If you’re drinking a beer and those options don’t apply, change the angle of your head, lean back a bit, and open your mouth a tad wider.You’ll want to switch from drinking with the top of your lip to the bottom of your lip as well. It’s awkward and takes awhile to get used to, but it works wonder for preventing your mustache from getting wet.You can also keep a small handkerchief in your pocket and use as needed. Most can be covertly rested inside your hand. No one around you will notice as you continue to dab your bead dry.Eating:Just like drinking it’s a good idea to keep a handkerchief around when you’re grabbing a bite to eat. Only this time, brush towards the sides of your mouth to push away your whiskers. You can also cut back on your mustache wax before you start. The more you use, the harder it will be to clean.However, the easiest thing you can do that helps cut down on the clean up, is to simply roll your top lip up and your lower lip down before you take a bite. Common sense right? But truth be told, it takes a fair amount of practice to get it just right.Remember to use your teeth to latch onto your food before your lips make contact. There will be certain foods where this isn’t possible, like a gigantic hamburger or stacked sandwich, so expect to get a little messy. Switch around the angle of the item your eating, and try to ensure that your mustache always goes over it. You don’t want to end up chewing down your mustache by mistake!If possible, just reach for the fork and knife. Cutting things into bite size pieces will always help. You can do this with bagels, pizza, toast, or anything else you’d like. When it comes to foods like yogurt, ice cream, soups, or a bowl of cereal in the morning you’ll want to insert the spoon into your mouth before closing.Usually we tend to slurp these things down.
