PDF Editor FAQ

How small can you keep a rooibus bush? I’m looking to grow one, but it has to come inside in the winter, and we can't fit a 6-7' shrub.

The pot keeps your plant small. How big is your plant now? Keep it in the smallest pot that fits the root ball. What size pot did it come in? If it was a 6″ pot or 1 gallon choose an 8″ pot or a 2 gallon. Fill with POTTING SOIL no garden soil that is a no no. Just cheapo sterilized potting medium. No exceptions. If you are taking it out side and then bringing it in when it gets cold you have to know about acclimatization. If your plant is out of doors under a porch roof or awning then they can go in and out readily. If your plant has been in the direct sunshine it’s skin is very very thick to protect it from sunburn.Acclimatization entails taking the plant to the new environment at first for 10 minutes. Then back to its normal place. Do this for 3 days. Next would be to up the minutes to 20 minutes in the new environment (in or out) for 3 days. Next the minutes would be 40 minutes for 3 days and then an hour for 3 days and by now should be safe to take indoors. Plants not acclimated will be severely stressed, weakened and can die.I hope this helps.

What advice would you give to someone who is moving to Indianapolis, Indiana?

Choose where you're going to live wisely. Avoid the east side because of crime/violence/drugs. The northside is good, if you don't mind messing with the traffic and the higher cost of living. South and west sides are good all around. While Indy is a big city, some residential areas don't offer multiple utility providers for things like Internet and TV. That may not seem like a big deal, but if there's only one provider in your area then you can expect to be price gouged.Expect a lot of diversity. Indy has really become more diverse in the past few years. It's awesome! And unlike cities like New Orleans, the city is receptive to outsiders and people are generally pretty neighborly. In terms of entertainment, there's really plenty to do but it kind of slow downs in the summer months. Football, basketball, racing, minor league baseball events are all happening in the late summer-spring. There's also several museums that you can visit but if you're like me, once you've seen them once there's not much reason to go back. There are several different annual conventions and festivals that happen as well, just depending on your interest. The Indy speedway is always crowded and full of rednecks mouth breathing. If you like people watching, you're in for a treat there. If racing is your thing, you won't be disappointed either but pay for the seats that under the awning, much better than sitting in the hot sun on metal bleachers. As far as major cities go, Indy feels small but is still pretty big. Plus, there's minimal traffic on the interstates as opposed to some major cities where you sit in traffic for an hour to go 15 miles. So you don't have to worry about living right next to work to get there on time. There's been a lot of growth in Indy recently as it pertains to shopping and retail. A new Costco built on the south side and an IKEA on the northeast side opening this fall. If mall shopping is your thing, the mall at keystone and the crossing is nice and even the greenwood park mall on the south side has really come along in recent years. there's plenty of shopping options in the city.In terms of downtown, a lot of these little microbreweries have popped up and can provide some interesting food and beer if you're looking for that sort of thing. There's also a bar down town called Tappers that features free arcade games as well as local brew beer. It's definitely worth a visit. Downtown also features a city market during workdays that's full of different little eateries.

What are some poems which have deep meanings of life?

Poems for me is the most advanced way of expressing your thoughts. You have to ensure that words follow a certain pattern and at the same time convey the idea and emotions. A good poem is an amplifier for ideas and emotions to have greater impact on masses. Some great names have been mentioned in the answers but I would like to pick a poem by an Indian poet, Vikram Seth. I am sure a lot of us has already read this poem, titled “The frog and the Nightingale”To summarize you it’s a story about a frog who would blare his throat day in day out much to chagrin of the creatures living in the vicinity. They criticized him, abused him but he won’t stop. Then one fine day, a Nightingale conjures in the jungle who would sing in the melodious voice that none of the creature around the bog have ever listened to. All the creatures would flock to listen to her voice. The megalomaniac frog obviously didn’t like it. After few days the frog visits the Nightingale. After some initial praise, the frog started criticizing her and manage to convince her that she needs to improve to have the “Baritone” like him. The gullible nightingale began to sang in the way the frog wanted her. You have to read the whole poem to know how eventually the frog manipulated and eventually got rid of the nightingale. The poem is a bit long, but I am sure, by the end of the poem you would be amazed at the message presented in a sublime language. So here it goes.“The frog and the Nightingale” by Vikram Seth[1]Once upon a time a frogCroaked away in Bingle BogEvery night from dusk to dawnHe croaked awn and awn and awnOther creatures loathed his voice,But, alas, they had no choice,And the crass cacophonyBlared out from the sumac treeAt whose foot the frog each nightMinstrelled on till morning nightNeither stones nor prayers nor sticks.Insults or complaints or bricksStilled the frogs determinationTo display his heart's elation. But one night a nightingaleIn the moonlight cold and palePerched upon the sumac treeCasting forth her melodyDumbstruck sat the gaping frogAnd the whole admiring bogStared towards the sumac, rapt,And, when she had ended, clapped,Ducks had swum and herons wadedTo her as she serenadedAnd a solitary loonWept, beneath the summer moon.Toads and teals and tiddlers, capturedBy her voice, cheered on, enraptured:"Bravo! " "Too divine! " "Encore! "So the nightingale once more,Quite unused to such applause,Sang till dawn without a pause.Next night when the NightingaleShook her head and twitched her tail,Closed an eye and fluffed a wingAnd had cleared her throat to singShe was startled by a croak."Sorry - was that you who spoke? "She enquired when the frogHopped towards her from the bog."Yes," the frog replied. "You see,I'm the frog who owns this treeIn this bog I've long been knownFor my splendid baritoneAnd, of course, I wield my penFor Bog Trumpet now and then""Did you… did you like my song? ""Not too bad - but far too long. The technique was fine of course,But it lacked a certain force"."Oh! " the nightingale confessed.Greatly flattered and impressedThat a critic of such noteHad discussed her art and throat:"I don't think the song's divine. But - oh, well - at least it's mine"."That's not much to boast about".Said the heartless frog. "WithoutProper training such as I- And few others can supply. You'll remain a mere beginner. But with me you'll be a winner""Dearest frog", the nightingaleBreathed: "This is a fairy tale -And you are Mozart in disguiseCome to earth before my eyes"."Well I charge a modest fee.""Oh! " "But it won't hurt, you'll see"Now the nightingale inspired,Flushed with confidence, and firedWith both art and adoration,Sang - and was a huge sensation.Animals for miles aroundFlocked towards the magic sound,And the frog with great precisionCounted heads and charged admission.Though next morning it was raining,He began her vocal training."But I can't sing in this weather""Come my dear - we'll sing together.Just put on your scarf and sash,Koo-oh-ah! ko-ash! ko-ash! "So the frog and nightingaleJourneyed up and down the scaleFor six hours, till she was shiveringand her voice was hoarse and quivering.Though subdued and sleep deprived,In the night her throat revived,And the sumac tree was bowed,With a breathless, titled crowd:Owl of Sandwich, Duck of Kent,Mallard and Milady Trent,Martin Cardinal Mephisto,And the Coot of Monte Cristo,Ladies with tiaras glitteringIn the interval sat twittering -And the frog observed them glitterWith a joy both sweet and bitter.Every day the frog who'd sold herSongs for silver tried to scold her:"You must practice even longerTill your voice, like mine grows stronger. In the second song last nightYou got nervous in mid-flight.And, my dear, lay on more trills:Audiences enjoy such frills. You must make your public happier:Give them something sharper snappier. We must aim for better billings. You still owe me sixty shillings."Day by day the nightingaleGrew more sorrowful and pale.Night on night her tired songZipped and trilled and bounced along,Till the birds and beasts grew tiredAt a voice so uninspiredAnd the ticket office grossCrashed, and she grew more morose -For her ears were now addictedTo applause quite unrestricted,And to sing into the nightAll alone gave no delight. Now the frog puffed up with rage."Brainless bird - you're on the stage -Use your wits and follow fashion.Puff your lungs out with your passion."Trembling, terrified to fail,Blind with tears, the nightingaleHeard him out in silence, tried,Puffed up, burst a vein, and died.Said the frog: "I tried to teach her,But she was a stupid creature -Far too nervous, far too tense.Far too prone to influence.Well, poor bird - she should have knownThat your song must be your own. That's why I sing with panache:"Koo-oh-ah! ko-ash! ko-ash! "And the foghorn of the frogBlared unrivalled through the bog.Upshots:The deep underlining message is that in your life you would come across people who might be doing badly in their life. They might begin by praising you. E.g."Did you… did you like my song? ""Not too bad - but far too long. The technique was fine of course,But it lacked a certain force".They will criticize you and will try to “correct you” at the same time boasting their credentials that they are the most authentic genius. E.g."Yes," the frog replied. "You see,I'm the frog who owns this treeIn this bog I've long been knownFor my splendid baritoneThey will criticize you till you start doubting yourself. You’ll be impelled to make do thing different than the way you used for which you were admired by people eventually bringing you to their level. That being said, critics are important in life but you have to develop the acumen to choose the genuine ones. You have to figure out the frogs, the motormouth untalented people who do things for their self interest and egos.Footnotes[1] The Frog And The Nightingale Poem by Vikram Seth - Poem Hunter
