As a person that paid around $20 for a gym membership for a while, and now pays several times that for a Crossfit box membership:80% of life is showing up. Crossfit uses group pressure to get people to try hard and keep coming. Psychology studies have shown that group pressure is very powerful, and the group pressure to show up to the Crossfit workouts has kept me coming 4 times per week for several months now. I just didn't have the motivation to go to the gym by myself as regularly.The workouts are dictated to you, and varied. One of the downfalls I had in my self-directed gym workouts is they got stale and repetitive. Of course CF does repeat exercises and even whole workouts occasionally, but actually my lack of choice in the workout prevents me from slacking off. I can't choose to only do the parts I like, or the parts I'm good at.If you able to stick with regular workouts and get to your fitness goals by yourself, my hat is off to you. I don't have the required self-discipline.
