Three years ago when I was in 7th grade my parents received a call informing them about hacking in school.At my middle school all the game websites were blocked. Kids wanted to play games to distract themselves from the boring classes. At this time I became interested in terminal (the OSX application.) I learned that there was a command to play various text based games and simple games. When ever I was on terminal I changed the color of the page to the ‘classic hacking color’This is what my screen would look like.I found out the commands to play Tetris on terminal and I often did it at school because all online games were blocked.This is what Tetris would look like on terminal.My teacher caught me typing in the commands to play Tetris. With the color changed and commands being typed in it looked like clips of hackers in movies. He immediately sent me to the Dean of Students for punishment. My parents were called and I explained to them I was playing Tetris. When I got home I showed my parents how I did it. They thought it was cool so I was not punished at all at home.The next week was filled with detentions.Wow, never thought I'd get 2000 upvotes! Thanks!

I am hardly the tough guy bad ass type. However…My 15 year old daughter wanted to have a birthday party in our back yard, with live bands.I agreed but told her she had to bring flyers around to the neighbors to let them know. I checked with the city to make sure we complied with the applicable laws.Literally, within a minute after the first band started to play - well below the permitted decibel level - a young cop shows up and says we had to stop the music. I asked who complained. He said that no one complained, that he was driving by and heard it. I informed him that I checked the law and that a resident had to complain before the police could intervene.He then announced to the attendees and the bands that they had to leave. I responded by telling them not to go anywhere and that he had no authority to order them to leave.At that point, he said something into his mic. Next thing I know, 8 police cars (the entire shift) raced up, lights and sirens going. Apparently, he radioed that I threatened him.It just so happens that I previously had a brief and positive interaction with the commander on the scene.He walked up to the reporting cop, clearly seeing he was not being attacked, and asked what was going on. I could not hear the rest of the conversation, but it ended with the commander yelling at the cop to “then give him a citation and get the hell out of here.”The party went on. Fortunately, one of the attendees had a camcorder and recorded the whole incident. The citation was dismissed.Next thing I knew, parents of other kids were calling me because their kids wanted to have parties with music and I “defeated the police.”I'm glad I stood up for my daughter. She died just ten years later.UPDATE: Wow! I didn't expect this response. Thank you all for your condolences. I didn't really think what I did was that big a deal. The reason I put that last sentence in was because that's what made it a bigger deal than it was at the time.

There were many advantages of riding an elephant in battles, especially in the early medieval times. Again some of the factors apply to the style of battle and the tactics, so elephant might not be always “the solution”. The points below are particularly applicable to “slow warfare”, that is where you have a considerably large and resourceful army (against your opponent) and when the terrain is flat. In other words the strength of your army is in staying together and making slow and consolidated maneuvers.first and foremost, the advantage of elevation. For the commander, it provides a much bigger view of the battlefield. He can observe the situation from a higher vantage point, if there are reinforcements coming in the battlefield, he can detect them and act upon. Even seeing the fellow commanders on other elephants is very helpful and handy! Elephants are like walking towers.as a leader of troops, being visible and close to your forces is very assuring and motivating. We are speaking about the medieval battles here - if you imagine yourself as a soldier, understand that once the troops engage each other, it is all dust, shout and chaos. And there’s no central coordination. There are few directions given , if you are isolated from your band , you are on your own! For comparison, you can imagine yourself in a procession or during cricket match or election rally or on a train/metro station in peak time - when you are isolated from your people! The surroundings aren’t quite helpful - and now in that crowd, if you can imagine seeing your leader a little away, visible clearly on elephants back! That is a very important aspect of the commander riding elephant back!The commander has his personal guards covering the animal, plus the animal itself is huge and mighty. The warriors sit in houda which covers the lower angles. The war elephants used to carry a double mace like weapons in their trunks. So not easy to get close to the commander.The generals/ commanders were more vulnerable on say horseback bacause of closer proximity to enemy. On elephant, the warriors are mainly reachable by arrows or gunshots. They are not as lethal as, say, a sword or a lance.Hemu had real bad luck as a stray arrow pierced his eye. Vishwasrao got targeted by gunfire (not sure about Rama raya, I guess he switched and mounted on a horseback).the similar arguments can be given to the chariot riders in ancient times, and in modern times the elephant warriors can be in some ways compared to battle tanks (but not so much firepower)
