So I got to know about GATE in my 3 sem. One of our professor told us about this exam as I always had that dream of studying from IIT among the best minds of the country. And somehow I was not able to do that through JEE although I cleared JEE advance in first attempt with AIR 19000 and at that point everyone suggested me for an year drop for iit but I was not ready for giving a whole year so I ended up taking admission in a pvt engineering college in my hometown indore which I got in first counselling at that time I was so frustrated and disappointed from my own decision of not giving 2nd attempt.But as in 3rd sem when I got to know about GATE I made up my mind for preparing for GATE. I started my preparation with researchI used to watch videos of GATE toppers and their strategy and the study material they used everything. And also I started using standard books for the subjects that were common in GATE sallybus and University so I did this in my whole second year.I solved W. hyat for NAS, Morris mano for digital electronics, sadiku for Emt as this subjects were common for GATE and 2nd year of BE. and just after the last paper of 4th sem I joined coaching (engineers circle)on 8 july 2016 for GATE as I don't wanted to take any chance I wanted to crack GATE with a good rank in first attempt. Well during 2nd year I was not that serious about GATE but after joining coaching and meeting other GATE aspirents I too started preparing seriously. I used to regularly revise the coaching notes and solve the modules provided by them. Well they covered the whole GATE sallybus once till March 2017 and ya I attended all the subjects except analogue electronics (becoz of my 5th sem exams). So now after March 2017 I started self study as that is the most essential requirement of any competitive exam I ordered ACE academy previous 30 years book to practice more Q and than I realised that signals and system and communication are my weak points so I solved oppenheim willsky for that and guess what signals is my favourite subject now this is the magic of good books and for communication I tried many books but I was never satisfied but schaum series is good for practising Q. so my 6th sem ended up like this now 7th sem was really hectic major project, placements and all last year of college. All my classmates were preparing for placement as TCS mass recruiter was coming for campus.And I was also practicing aptitute for GATE not for campus. Well I am going to give you a very important tip specially if you are a final year student and preparing seriously for GATE so I decided not to sit for campus becoz anyways I was not interested in IT jobs being a ECE student .and my this decision saved me while everyone was busy in Gd PI coaching I Joined test series of ACE academy in August 2017and made easy in October 2017 and also I realised that analogue electronics was my weakest subject so I tried watching NPTEL but truly speaking I found NPTEL lectures boring I tried GATE academy analogue electronics vedio they were helpful for building my basics but still I was not confident about the subject. So till November 2017 I completed ALL the subject wise tests of made easy and also some tests of ACE academy in November I had my 7th sem exams.Now 8th December 2017 last paper of 7th sem. I relaxed for a day and than started revision from 10th Dec I revised all the subjects for a week and than my first full length test. I secured 45 in first test I was upset but that I analysed my silly mistakes for 2 days I revised the weak points and my weak subjects than 2nd full length I secured 55 was happy from the improvement. So this way december ended in revision regaining the pace and now January 2018 for the whole month I used to give full length in every 3 days and notedown my mistakes in a register and revise for the next 2 days and ya I was improving with this practice I used to score around 65 /100 in madeeasy test series and 50/100 in ACE academy (I found it tougher the GATE) also I was clear with my AIM that I wanted to pursue mtech from any of the old IITs well iit bombay was my dream so I didn't fill forms of any PSus expect NTPC. As GATE 2018 was my first attempt and at times I too had negative thoughts but I had some really good friends they motivated me all the time and also my parents supported me throughout. My GATE exam was sechuduled on 10 Feb 2018 so I attempted my last full length test on 3 Feb after that I revised only my Coaching notes and the register in which I noted my mistakes during full length.10 Feb 2018I was quite nervous and excited as it was my first attempt and ya I was prepared well bt still back in my mind I was afraid of analogue electronics . Coz I prepared only op - amp and transistors and left all the other topics of AE trust me I tried 100% to study it. So ya I covered almost 90% sallybus and I was ready to face it.Paper was very tough beyond my expectations and I literally wanted to cry after the exam but some how I managed not to do that in front of my friends well it was equally tough for all and we all were upset so after chilling for around 15 days. When I came back to college from a family tour all my friends who were also GATE aspirants and equally disappointed from there GATE paper were calculating there marks. And they insisted me to calculate the marks but I was not in a state to face reality as according to me my paper was not upto the mark and somewhere I was ready for a drop becoz I knew that I would score around 50 to 55 and according to previous year analysis I won't get under 300 with this score.But wait GATE 2018 ECE was really tough not only for me but for everyone so here comes the turning point yup the result day.16 MARCH 2018I was totally shocked from the result I secured 53/100 I was expecting this score but the unexpected part was AIR. yup I secured AIR 238. Well I always wanted under 100 but I was happy from the result and also relaxed from the thought that now I don't have to drop a year.So I was already clear that I want to pursue mtech but again life had some different plans there was this PSU AAI which was recruiting through GATE 2018. I filled the form as job profile was quite interesting. Meanwhile I went for interview in iit kanpur,IIT delhi I WAS not able to attend IISC bangloure interview coz of my 8th sem exams.I got offers fro iit kharagpur vipes, iit delhi Jtm, iit roorkee and also I got shortlisted for document verification in AAI.and guess what I am not going for MTECH. while IIT was my only inspiration for GATE. but now I am joining PSU.So this was my GATE story.
