PDF Editor FAQ

Is it true that USPS mail delivery vehicles are 25-30 years old and use engines designed in the 1970s that get 10mpg?

It’s partially true. What you are talking about is the Grumman LLVAll of them were produced between 1987 and 1994, making the newest ones 23 years old.The engine they use is the GM Iron Duke 4 cylinderIt was first produced in 1977, and when installed in the LLV, they do get about 10 MPG.However, the LLV is not the only delvery vehicle USPS has. Many stations use commercially available minivans from Ford, Chrysler, and Chevrolet to supplement the LLV fleet, and in some cases to replace them.USPS is currently working on replacing the LLV.USPS statement on delivery vehiclesThe United States Postal Service (USPS) publicly began the Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV) acquisition program in January 2015 with a Request for Information (RFI) and kick-off meeting open to all interested technology and automotive suppliers to respond and participate. You have to keep in mind that USPS is a very large organization, and sweeping changes take a lot of work and time.

If Trump said he wanted $2,000 paychecks instead of $600, then why are House Republicans now blocking that request?

Because Trump meant instead of all of the other nothing-to-do-with-covid nonsense they’re trying to pass, not in addition to.Trump wanted to raise the payout from $600 to $2,000 and remove the following:$300 million for Migrant and Refugee Assistance.$10,000 per person for student loan bailout.$100 million to NASA.$20 billion to the USPS.$300 million to the Endowment for the Arts.$300 million for the Endowment for the Humanities.$15 million for Veterans Employment Training.$435 million for mental health support.$30 billion for the Department of Education stabilization fund.$200 million to Safe Schools Emergency Response to Violence Program.$300 million to Public Broadcasting / NPR.$500 million to Museums and libraries.$720 million to Social Security Admin ($200 million to recipients, rest is admin costs).$25 million for Cleaning supplies for the Capitol Building.$7.5 million to the Smithsonian for additional salaries.$35 million to the JFK Center for Performing Arts.$25 million for additional salary for House of Representatives.$3 billion to upgrade to the IT department at the VA.$315 million for State Department Diplomatic Programs.$95 million for the Agency of International Development.$300 million for International Disaster Assistance.$90 million for the Peace Corp.$13 million to Howard University.$9 million to Misc. Senate Expenses.$100 million to Essential Air carriers.$40 billion to the Take Responsibility to Workers and Families Act.$1 billion to Airlines Recycle and Save Program.$25 million to the FAA for administrative costs.$492 million to National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak).$526 million in Grants to Amtrak to remain available if needed through 2021.$25 billion for Transit Infrastructure.$3 million to Maritime Administration.$5 million to Salaries and Expensive Office of the Inspector General.$2.5 million to Public and Indian Housing.$5 million to Community Planning and Development.$2.5 million to the Office of HousingYeah. All of that is what they’re trying to pass under the guise of covid relief. You get $600 and the rest goes there. My impression of what Trump was saying was that he thought that was kind of ridiculous and would rather just give every American $2,000 instead of all of that other stuff, but the hacks in Congress — on both sides — don’t want to let go of the pork for their pet programs.Does seeing that list make you mad? It should. The problems in this country aren’t because of who is in the White House. It was never because of Bush, Obama, or Trump. It won’t be because of Biden or Harris either. The problem has always been the legislative branch. Congress and the Senate are completely dysfunctional. Sometimes the President vetos their garbage, and sometimes he doesn’t. But the problems always originate from them.Edit: I’m aware the “omnibus” and Covid relief are technically separate bills, the problem is the endeavor to pass them together. Funding this nonsense while giving scraps to Americans whose jobs were shut down by the Government is wrong at every level.

What is the most amazing or shocking thing you know that most people don't?

Working for the Post Office can result in your student loan debt being forgivenI got hired with the USPS when I was 25. I spent 4+ years in school before that. I only have about a semester and half before being able to graduate with a BA in Psychology. I just haven’t felt the motivation to go back.I didn’t have a college fund set aside by my parents. This left me relying solely on grants and student loans to pay for the time that I was in school. After going for 4+ years, I definitely racked up quite the ledger in student loans. After I did leave school with no degree, I was stuck mainly with pretty low-paying, entry-level positions. I worked at a couple of banks that barely paid my bills. Once my student loans had been deferred as long as they would let me, those bills started hitting the monthly budget too.I remember talking to my old college roommate one day and he was telling me about how he was going through the hiring process with the Post Office. He told me that they paid pretty dang well, but the pay wasn’t the main reason he was most excited about getting a job there.“Besides the pay, they totally will forgive your student loan debt down the road too because you’re a ‘public service employee,’” he told me.“You’re kidding right?” I responded with obvious sarcasm.“Nah dude I’m totally serious. Go look it up when you get home.”When I got home that night, I did the research. Sure enough, he wasn’t lying:Basically the way it works is you have to be a full-time career employee with USPS, make all your payments on time, every month, for 10 consecutive years, then whatever balance is remaining on your loans will be completely forgiven. That’s it.Unless I win the lottery or my business startup really takes off, I don’t plan on ever leaving the Post Office. Here’s where it gets even sweeter (at least for me).I’ll be honest in saying that I owe about $35K in student loan debt. But based on my income level and having two kids, they only require me to make $5 a month payments.I did the simple math on it. Paying $5 a month every month for the next 10 years amounts to a measly $600 in total payments. After I’ve satisfied the timely payments every month for 10 years, the government will completely forgive the other $34,000+ that I owe. That means I don’t need to worry about trying to make extra payments each month to hopefully pay it off sooner and avoid the interest. I can just make the minimum payment of 5 stinkin bucks a month for the next decade then all the rest of it will vanish into thin air.I don’t know if this knowledge is commonplace among the minds of Americans. But it is certainly amazing and noteworthy. So if you’re stuck in a dead end job here in America and have a bunch of student loan debt, you may want to head over USPS - Careers and try to land a job.
