Short answer is a no.I'm an Indian living in Toronto, ON Canada.Canada has a small population of less than 40 million people but still has a stable and growing economy.I pay high taxes like 30% or so of my salary and still doesn't feel like too much. Every thing I purchase has a 13% GST (5% fed and 8% state)I paid just around 10% as tax in India and still felt too much to me when I lived there.Now, I love my country, the culture and still do and will always do until I breathe, however there are things we need to accept. Corruption makes things worse.I had to bribe for everything there. To get a legitimate document that I’m legally entitled to even after following all proper govt. procedures, still need to bribe.There was a situation when we wanted to transfer my dad’s pension to my mom’s name after his demise. That was our only income and it was already cut in half after his death. The govt officers demanded 2 months pension as bribe in order to provide the documents. When asked them to demand less they said you are going to get pension forever, we need to make our money. So either pay or leave. My dad worked in the Indian airforce in some of the worst terrain to earn his buck, why should they demand that? We had to borrow money from others to pay this and repaid it in 6 months. That will never happen in a country like Canada.Water is not polluted in Canada.I was surprised when I landed in Canada that I could open the tap and drink water right out of it as in India it was already 6 years when drinking water was supposed to be purchased in bubble tops. In my hometown (Ranipet, Tamil Nadu a former huge Industrial town) the entire river and ground water is polluted with chromates and corporate companies can bribe and escape.An entire lake of water was turned pink by adding industrial waste into it and they still do.Roads don’t get repaired, they collect tolls and never fix roads. From my hometown to chennai there are two tolls. One owned by L&T and the other by a politician. Both charge the same amount however the L&T area would be well maintained and the politician’s limit would be so poor that you cannot travel more than 40kmph without damaging your vehicle.I want our country to be the best. But we cannot make false claims and say they are the best. The first step to fix a problem is to acknowledge there is one.FYI. That 30% tax I pay is repaid by the govt in the following waysProper roads and swift repairBetter connectivity within the city for a comfortable and safe travel even in -25 degree tempClean waterWell maintained parks24/7 electricityFree schoolsFree healthcareQuick action by assigning a body to solve issues. Ex : There was a sudden rise in the real estate market and was making things un-affordable. The govt intervened and quickly brought down prices. If this was India (well it has happened before many times and I have seen it) the politicians would make money out of the situation rather than fixing it.Since there was money left in budget the govt gave away free cool drinks, bike lights, hats, popcorn. Can this happen in India?This is a place built by govt for people to go for walks and enjoy the eveningThis is a playground where we play cricket in the heart of Toronto. You can see downtown from there.This park is only 1/4 what you see in this picture and is 4 times bigger with 6 baseball diamonds, one football pitch and a running track and much more place for families to take a walk or sit and enjoy. A place like this in Indian metro city would have been eaten by the politicians and real estate mafias.The best is when you look at a police officer you feel safe not afraid and run away like in our country where they try to intimidate you and take the money from you. Once when I parked my bike in no parking 3 police officers harassed me so much they made me go and take money out of ATM and pay them (Rs.500) in 2009 threatening that they will take the bike away to court and make me walk all along. One officer even mentioned that he will make sure I suffer and go through misery. I was new to the city.I can go on and on but I think I have proved my point. I can also talk all good about India and how it is so better than Canada but would that be true? If we say India is so good would be searching for a huge political reform like we do.The only politician I have respect for is Arvind Kejriwal from AAP. He does what a leader should do. Not hug people from slum and poverty but make their lives better. Not speak sugar coated words like BJP does but to get the job done and the work speak for itself. Not talk about secularism and do all nonsense in the back like Congress but make sure secularism is deep rooted in the society. I’m from Tamil Nadu. Never voted or seen this guy but his work speaks for itself.Maybe….Maybe one day when India in his hands it might become the best in the world. What would make me more happier than that? Big mafias, corporate and politicians. This is still there in India. On top of it the common man has to sweat out his earnings to get the ordinary job done, like get a license, a birth certificate, a bank loan, a police report. Bribe at this level where they reject to do their duty knowing that you have no other place to run and forcing you to pay the money is not bribery, it is EXTORTION!!!No country is perfect, so is India and so is Canada. But I just answered the question that Canada is better and reasoned it out. Like I always pointed out the first step to resolve an issue is to acknowledge it. He is one of the best-known and best-loved foreign actors in Japan, and he was in good company with the other famous Japanese actors in the film.A lot of Westerners took objection to the Hollywood trend of casting a white person to “save” all the minorities in their own narrative. Whether they be based on a real person or completely fictionalized, there is a disdain for movies featuring this kind of character. The film studios argue that they can’t bank on a minority star (except a Will Smith or Denzel Washington), so big movies need to have a big actor, i.e. a white man. This seems to be a trend which most Japanese people were unaware of and unconcerned with, however.This could be partly to do with subtle marketing differences in Japan. In the US, nobody knew who Ken Watanabe was at the time, or Hiroyuki Sanada. So the posters all featured Tom Cruise. I remember seeing one that said:“Tom CruiseisThe Last Samurai”But in Japan, the promotional materials were more varied. Some of them looked like this:Or this:Or this:Basically, it was less certain exactly who was meant to be the “last” samurai, and note that the plural of ‘samurai’ is ‘samurai’. So it could be telling the story of the group that fought with Saigo Takamori (which Cruise’s character was part of).So, in Japan, there was no hubbub about cultural appropriation or anything like that. The most important thing was that Japanese people were being played by Japanese. And it was a big kick for a lot of people to see famous Japanese actors in a big Hollywood movie with Cruise.
