PDF Editor FAQ

Why didn't the European nations attempt to save Constantinople from the Ottomans, while they sent thousands of soldiers to protect Vienna, a smaller and arguably less important city?

“Oh, God, what have you done now to the ancient glory of Rome?”Thus did the entire English royal court lament on Christmas Day in the year 1400 when King Henry IV of England gave a banquet in his palace of Eltham, in honor not only of the holiday, but also of a very distinguished guest. This was Manuel II Palaiologos, emperor of the Romans. He had come to England all the way from Constantinople on a desperate mission to seek military aid against the Ottomans. At that time, the Romans had just lost Philadelphia - their last stronghold in Asia Minor, and were reduced to a rump state consisting of Constantinople and the adjacent areas that was to survive for barely 50 more years.Manuel II had travelled through most of Europe, meeting with Sigismund of the Holy Roman Empire, and had then paused at Paris, where King Charles VI of France had redecorated a wing of the Louvre to house him and where the professors at the Sorbonne had been delighted to meet a monarch who could argue with them with as much learning and subtlety as they themselves possessed. He had continued to meet with King Martin of Aragon and Queen Margaret I of Denmark. In England everyone was awed and impressed by the dignity of his demeanor and by the spotless white robes (white was the color of mourning in Byzantine culture) that he and his courtiers wore. His mere presence commanded respect and admiration. But for all his high titles, his hosts were moved to pity, because he had come as a desperate beggar at their doorstep. He was the ruler of a besieged city on the brink of annihilation. The old glory of Rome was no more. The fall of the Eastern Roman Empire was in no small part due to the actions of the Western European powers of the time. And the reason is simple: Romans and Western Europeans were never on friendly terms, and for much of the Middle ages, they were bitter rivals, quite often fighting for control of contested territories in Italy and the Mediterranean, while Franks and Normans were often plotting invasions towards the Byzantine mainland. What’s more, the westerners loathed and envied deeply the immensely wealthy and civilized Roman state. The Byzantines essentially gave the European states an inferiority complex which was further aggravated by the former's attitude of high-nosed contempt and disdain for what they regarded as nothing more than a bunch of barbarians.Simply said, the European states never had the intention to help the Romans, nor were they close to them in any way - not culturally, not intellectually, historically, not even religiously. On the contrary, for most of their coexistence, the Europeans dreamed to conquer and loot Constantinople themselves. And they did it with a vengeance. There were many reasons for the mutual hate and mistrust. The Hellenic Roman state, even in deep decline later on, was so civilized and sophisticated a society that the Europeans were totally perplexed by it, failing utterly to grasp its customs, rituals and norms. It was a puzzling and mind-boggling oriental mystery and any European visiting Constantinople was in for an awe-inspiring trip, marveling at everything - from the asphalted streets and the glitter of the roof tiles of the churches, made from solid gold, to even the way Romans walked and behaved - so sophisticated was the society that even ordinary human behavior was used to convey complex information - the way people walked, the various steps, body positions and movements had their own significance and code, which the westerners could not understand. Intelectually, the Roman and west European societies were incomparable - Byzantium had primary education available to both genders. Virtually every Roman citizen was literate, with further education available in the renowned imperial universities. Even the way Romans ate their food was funny - they used strange, pronged utensils to pick food, and it was scandalous that they insisted to bathe themselves at least once weekly. In a way, it was like a medieval man being transported to the highly sophisticated Japanese society with its totally different culture and norms. Of course, they'd be regarded as rude barbarians.Even the religions were different. Catholicism can be seen as a quite simplified version of Eastern Orthodoxy, and the Byzantines regarded it as a heresy and a corrupted version of their faith. The religious war resulted in the mutual excommunication from the church of the Pope and the Ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople and the beginning of the Great Schism in the XI century. To put it simply - just as the Western Europeans didn’t understand the highly sophisticated Byzantine society, its many intricacies, culture, norms, and complexities, so they didn’t understand the Byzantine Orthodoxy. It involved a much greater deal of understanding of philosophy, Greek, reasoning, rhetorics, rituals, theology, etc. Catholicism was а much simpler, trimmed down version, which went well with the uneducated “barbarians from the west”.The story of how the Catholic/Orthodox Schism began is quite spicy in itself. While the final cornerstone act is the bull of excommunication, placed on the altar of the Haggia Sophia by one Papal legate named Humbert of Silva Candida, the reality is much more complex, and involves seductions, debauchery, orgies, and one depraved Byzantine Empress - Zoe Porphyrogenita, who at the ripe old age of 70 loved to corrupt, seduce and have papal legates as boy toys, while indulging in the most grandiose schemes of sensual pleasure possible. And, to add a flavor to this depravity on a Grand scale, imagine this Zoe, as they described her, an old woman, bent down with age, but with her face so young and stunningly beautiful from the myriad beautifying ointments she used to smear on it, it was almost eerie. It is said she used to regularly bathe herself in donkey milk so as to preserve her skin’s beauty. She died at the age of 72 when she lacerated her intimate parts on her sex machine and bled to death. The shrieks of agony could be heard from outside the palace for hours on end. Then there was the Byzantine foreign diplomacy which was nothing short of a medieval version of the KGB or CIA - they employed an intricate network of spies and used an elaborate sophistication in their diplomatic affairs which always resulted in their rivals and foes getting the short end of the stick. They preferred to fight by diplomacy, and they fought so dirty the westerners were always outplayed and outsmarted. One good example of Byzantine diplomacy at play is the so called War of the Sicilian Vespers during the XIII century. The French king Charles of Anjou, whose ambition was to destroy the Byzantine empire and to capture Constantinople, had begun amassing a huge invasion army. The plot was subtly foiled by Michael VIII Palaiologos, who took advantage of simmering unrest against French rule in Sicily to instigate rebellion. The event takes its name from the Vespers, the sunset prayer marking the beginning of the night vigil on Easter Monday, March 30, 1282, at the Church of the Holy Spirit just outside Palermo, when a French soldier (an agent in disguise of Michael Palaiologos’) blatantly pinched a noble Sicilian woman on the backsides. The Sicilians were so outraged at this blasphemy they started a bloody massacre inside the church and killed every French man they could find. The event sparked an open rebellion and within weeks thousands of French men and women were slain by the rebels and the French government completely lost control over the island of Sicily. Thus the military preparation and resources were wasted on subduing the rebellion and the Romans were once again saved from another costly war.The Sicilian Vespers rebellionThere was also the economical factor: Not only was Byzantine trade the most prosperous, but for centuries they controlled the crucial silk roads to China and had a monopoly on the silk import in Europe, which they used to their advantage tremendously. They also managed to steal the secret of silk production from China (another good story about two Byzantine Christian monks who hid silk moth cocoons in their walking sticks and smuggled them out), and started a large scale production of silk in imperial factories. On the geopolitical map, the Byzantines had always strived to reconquer Italy and Spain back in the Empire, a feat which almost succeeded during the reign of Justinian I. For a while, things seemed to be doing well. In the beginning of the 6th century, there was a decades long bloody war against the Sassanid Empire of Persia, at which the Byzantines prevailed.Shortly after that, and with little warning, out of nowhere, the Arab invasion of Mohammed erupted like a storm. It caught the Byzantines by surprise, in a weak and exhausted state after the long war, and without having had the time to recuperate. During the ensuing new conflict, the force and zeal of jihad were overwhelming. The Byzantines crumbled. Syria, the Levant, Mesopotamia, Egypt and North Africa were lost in quick succession and soon the Arabs were laying siege on Constantinople. The struggle was fierce. The Byzantines were on the brink of collapse, but miraculously survived. Leo III the Isaurian finally repelled the invasion and stabilized the Empire in the 7th century (Leo III was a warrior emperor - a grim, foreboding member of the Isaurians - a fiercely independent warrior people from the rugged, isolated Isauria region in Central Asia Minor - you can think of them as the Cimmerians from Conan the barbarian universe), but afterwards the Empire could never reconquer the territories lost to the Muslims. A long and wide divide was formed in the east, following the natural barrier of the Taurus mountains in Cilicia. It was called Al-Awasim, or Ta-Akra (the Extremities). Both sides pursued a strategy of total destruction and scorched earth within this zone, transforming it into a barren, devastated wasteland that stood as an effective barrier between the Muslim and Christian realms for centuries. The European powers of course didn’t stay idle while the Byzantines were fighting for survival and quickly retook Italy and Spain and began pushing into Sicily and the remaining Byzantine enclaves. The war for Italy was long and the Byzantine western territories gradually dwindled over the course of many years, until the last enclave of Bari fell in 1070 to the Normans under Robert Guiscard. This was a catastrophe in itself, because most of the large imperial silk factories were located in Southern Italy (Puglia and Calabria), and the Romans thus lost their monopoly on silk production.By the time the Normans had captured Italy, the tide had turned against the Byzantines. Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes had been betrayed and lost the critical battle of Manzikert against the invading Seljuk Turks. He was dethroned and blinded. What followed was a series of civil wars after which the Empire lost its very heartland - the entire of Anatolia. The old borders of Ta-Akra had now been lost. Ancient roman territories such as Cappadocia, Cilicia, Phrygia and Paphlagonia were also lost to the Seljuks. And, to make matters worse, the Normans were organizing an invasion from the West with the clear goal of capturing Constantinople. The loss of Anatolia, along with the loss of Italy, was a huge catastrophe. The Byzantines were again on the brink of annihilation, but were saved by a line of very capable rulers who started the so called Komnenian Restoration - a period of careful and meticulous policy which oversaw the destruction of the Norman invasion army under Robert Guiscard and his son Bohemund, the restoration of most of Anatolia, and continuing Byzantine dominance in the region.Actually, the Komnenian restoration is the reason why the crusades began. Emperor Alexios I Komnenos sent some envoys to the Pope, asking for some mercenaries to help him regain Asia Minor. Instead of that, the Pope preached to the council of Clermont and issued a call to arms for a holy war for the liberation of Jerusalem and the Holy lands. The Byzantines stood aghast when, instead of mercenaries, immense hosts of crusaders began congregating before the gates of Constantinople. They were very worried, and rightly so, because these new intruders were essentially barbarians, an unruly, non-professional and undisciplined mob who would descend into looting, raping and killing at any opportunity they were given. They were an army of foreign mercenaries that had come on their own terms, with their own agenda, and who owed no allegiance to the Roman Empire. Furthermore, the whole idea of a “holy” war was an alien concept to the Byzantine mind. Killing, as Saint Basil of Caesarea had taught in the fourth century, was sometimes necessary but never praiseworthy, and certainly not grounds for remission of sins. The Eastern Church had held this line tenaciously throughout the centuries, even rejecting the great warrior-emperor Nicephorus Phocas’s attempt to have soldiers who died fighting Muslims declared martyrs. Wars could, of course, be just, but on the whole diplomacy was infinitely preferable. Above all, eastern clergy were not permitted to take up arms, and the strange sight of Norman clerics armed and even leading soldiers disconcerted the watching hosts. While the emperor wanted only purely military aid against the Seljuks, the crusaders were reciting some things about “war under the cross” and “holy war”. It was a total shock. These strange western knights were obviously not to be trusted, and some Byzantines suspected that the true object of the Crusade was not the liberation of Jerusalem at all, but the capture of Constantinople. Anyone who doubted that only needed to look at the nobles who were already on their way, for foremost among the crusading knights was Bohemund—the hated son of Robert Guiscard. To keep the story concise, relations between the crusaders and the Romans quickly turned hostile. After the first host of crusaders was prodded to go into enemy territory where it was slaughtered wholesale by the Turks, the second host (the princes’ crusade) achieved some success and captured former Roman territories, but refused to turn them back to the Empire. The crusaders established the kingdom of Jerusalem and several other crusader states. The Romans, on their part, followed in the wake of the crusader army, provided them with supplies and directions, kept them from looting the countryside, and also managed to gain some lost territories. They compensated the crusaders for the reconquest of several important Byzantine cities, but when the crusaders refused to turn over the former Byzantine territories of Cilicia, Antioch, Edessa and Jerusalem, and decided to keep them for themselves, both sides became sworn enemies. The crucial point came around 110 years later. Due to a very unfortunate series of events, the Romans were dealt a mortal blow in the form of the fateful Fourth Crusade, which deviated totally from its original purpose and was subtly prodded by the Venetians to attack and capture Constantinople. However, the Doge Enrico Dandolo - leader of the Venetians, knew the crusaders stood absolutely no chance in attacking or laying siege to the city directly, because it was protected by the massive Theodosian walls, an engineering marvel for their time that not even the much stronger Arab invasion armies had been able to conquer. However, the crusaders had the perfect combination of factors working for them - severely reduced Byzantine garrison, the crusader army appearing before the city by surprise, lack of a byzantine navy present, and an internal crisis within the byzantine state. The lack of byzantine navy meant the crusaders found it very easy to besiege and destroy the Galata tower, from which the massive chain protecting the Golden horn bay was hung (the gargantuan chain was hung across the entire bay and prevented enemy ships from entering.). With the chain destroyed, the crusader navy was now free to enter the bay and attack the city’s much weaker walls there. Their task was made much easier by the political crisis going inside the city - a brimming civil war over the succession of the trone by the Angeloi dynasty. The Byzantines were in a disarray and couldn’t provide a proper defense to the city, so the crusaders took advantage of this and after a long and bloody battle managed to breach the walls. The Theodosian walls that protected Constantinople for many centuries. Breached on land only after the invention of gunpowder and cannons. The resulting sack of Constantinople was so thorough and brutal that it forever destroyed the relations between the Romans and the Europeans. The crusaders vandalized, looted and raped for days. In addition to hundreds of tons of gold, works of tremendous value were destroyed merely for their material value. One such work was the bronze statue of Hercules, created by the famous Lysippus, court sculptor of no lesser than Alexander the Great. The statue was melted down for its bronze, but it is only one of a mass of bronze artworks which were melted down by those blinded by greed. Other works of art and even elements of architecture such as capitals and columns survived and can be seen anywhere in Europe. The loss of art treasures the world suffered in the sack of Constantinople is immeasurable. These bronze horses were looted from the hippodrome of Constantinople and sent to Venice by Doge Enrico Dandolo to be installed on St.Mark’s Basilica. All that having been said, why should the European powers of the XV century have been sympathetic to the dying Roman state? The same Romans whom they had hated and envied and fought so many times? The same Romans who had shamed and humiliated them times and again?By the time John VIII Palaiologos visited Italy to beg for help against the Ottomans and even showing willingness to eventually resolve the Great schism issues, it was too late. No one cared about Constantinople anymore, and no one could afford to field an army to challenge the Ottomans either.John VIII Palaiologos - the penultimate reigning Roman Emperor in his Imperial regalia. Even in decline, the empire still influenced fashion and culture. The fashion shown on portrait looks much more modern than the prevailing of the time. The Romans never forgave the west for what they had done. Many Romans even chose to go to the Ottoman side and willingly embraced Islam, rather than side with the abominable Catholics. It is only recently that Pope John Paul II formally apologized to the Eastern church for the sack of Constantinople, an apology which was accepted by the Ecumenical Patriarch in 2004, exactly 800 years after the event. It is also worthy to note, that the Western world still, to a large degree, carries the traces of the deep loathing and humiliation they endured at the hands of the Romans. They were so thoroughly shamed and had such an inferiority complex, that even to this day Byzantine history and culture is by and large a taboo in the west. There are few books about the Romans. There are absolutely no movies by Hollywood featuring Byzantines. Even in the movie “Kingdom of Heaven”, which is set in XII century while the Byzantine state was still one of the European superpowers and should have had a huge play in the movie, they are not mentioned even once, as if they have never existed.Even the scholars of the Enlightenment, preferring to find their roots in Ancient Greece and classical Rome, denied the Eastern empire the name “Roman”, branding it instead after Byzantium - the ancient name of Constantinople, and asserted that the history of “Byzantium” was nothing more than a thousand-year slide into barbarism and decay. So, while what was left of the Eastern Roman Empire finally succumbed to Islamic invasion, Europe washed its hands and turned away, confident in its own growing power and manifest destiny. This mutual contempt has left Constantinople consigned to obscurity, forgotten for centuries by those who once took refuge behind its walls. The Byzantine princess and historian Anna Komnena wrote in the preface of her famous historic work, the Alexiad:“Time in its irresistible and ceaseless flow carries along on its flood all created things, and drowns them in the depths of obscurity, no matter if they be quite unworthy of mention, or most noteworthy and important, and thus, as the tragedian says, "he brings from the darkness all things to the birth, and all things born envelops in the night."But the tale of history forms a very strong bulwark against the stream of time, and to some extent checks its irresistible flow, and, of all things done in it, as many as history has taken over, it secures and binds together, and does not allow them to slip away into the abyss of oblivion.”the Alexiad, ca.1148

What are some inspiring events related to Ratan Tata's life?

Ratan Tata is one of the most respected and admired entrepreneurs in India. The man himself was responsible for the rise of the Tata Group as a well known conglomerates across the globe. Ratan Tata sir is an inspiration for many and there have been various instances of his decision making which left us in awe of him.Mr.Tata is often given credit for transforming the group trough his bold decision making procedure, and rightly so. Today, the Tata Group is an $100 billion dollar empire and has seen many ups and downs throughout its long history. But one thing that has remained constant throughout is their willingness to face challenges and experiment for the sake of their customers. The man who was humble from the very beginning. After the completion of his study, Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group aged 24 in 1962. Before that, he went to the US to pursue his study. He went to Cornell University to study architecture and structural engineering.Mr.Tata continued his education by opting to pursue a management course from Harvard. After the completion of his education, he also rejected a job offer from IBM in order to continue working in his family business. His arrival marked a sudden change in fortunes for the Tata Group.Despite belonging to a well to-do family, Ratan Tata never took that for granted. He worked with the Tata Steel division in Jamshedpur and earned a lot of plaudits and accolades for his dedication and work ethic. Later on, he got promoted to the position of being the Director of charge of the National Radio and Electronics Company Limited (NELCO).This turned out to be the starting steps of one of India’s well-known and respected industrialists and entrepreneur. Mr.Tata once confessed that he learnt many leadership traits during his time in charge of NELCO. This left a lasting impact on the man himself who went on to lead the Tata Group later on.Tata Indica: The birth of Indian ingenuity in automotive engineering.Ratan Tata became the head of the Tata Group in the year 1991. During the same year, the company started to make its presence felt in the passenger car segment with the Sierra SUV. However, due to the entry of many MNC’s here due to the opening of the economic reforms, TELCO (now Tata Motors) found the going tough.Their response came in the form of their much awaited hatchback the India. Launched in late 1998, the Indica generated a whopping 1,15,000 bookings within a week of its launch. Ratan Tata was closely monitoring the development of the Indica on various fronts from design to the powertrain during its production.Well, the earlier set of Indica’s had a lot of problems and frequently broke down on the middle of the roads. This kind of ruined the image of the brand and like every winner, they knew how to bounce back from obstacles. The revival came in the form of the Indica V2 in 2001, which rekindled India's love with the Indica. The Indica turned out to be a roaring success for Tata Motors and this gave them the confidence to roll out many such models from the same platform. The success of the Indica pretty much gave the MNC’s an idea of how the market works, with affordability and mileage being the order of the day. The Indica almost single-handedly made Tata Motors the third largest brand in the market in terms of sales numbers, coming under the leadership of Ratan Tata.A true patriot along with an inspiring leader of the group. The Mumbai attacks of 26/11 was one of the darkest phases that occurred in India's recent history. These attacks left the country in shock and many of us came out in solidarity to help the city. Ratan Tata was deeply hurt by the tragic incident and decided to lend his helping hand to those protecting the pepole of Mumbai.Mr.Tata stood alone outside the Taj Hotel unarmed during the time after the attack took place. He supervised the activities of the police to protect the victims. This gave us a perfect example of the man's generosity and love for the country.Later, he personally visited the families of all the 80 employees who were killed or injured during the attack. This was a great gesture itself by the man which made me respect him even more. Mr.Tata went on to provide much-needed relief to the injured victims and supported them during the bad time.A few months later, he rejected an offer from the Pakistani government to extend his business. The Pakistani government placed an order to the company to import the Tata Sumo for their officials. With this step, we all realised that money and fame does not come in front of love for the nation for Ratan Tata.Tata Nano: The one lakh wonder which shocked the automotive scene. As India celebrated its 60th Independence day in 2007, one biggest buzz going around back then was that of Tata Motors ‘One lakh car’. It was because Ratan Tata, seeing Indian families not being able to afford the luxury of buying a car, decided to step in. He promised us of a vehicle which will be sold for a meagre starting price of Rs.1 lakh. That car turned out to be the Nano, which got launched in 2008. Ratan Tata gave his all in making the dream a reality and was backed by his engineering team. There was a lot of compromises made on the Nano in order to fit the one lakh market. The road in developing the Nano was filled with a lot of obstacles and hurdles which kept the company on its knees. Finally, the Nano got launched in 2008, making it the World's cheapest car at that time. In the end, the cost of materials and structural components pushed the price for the Nano around the one lakh mark.Nevertheless, it was a brave attempt by the company to try and experiment something suitable to the masses. The Nano managed to sell around two lakh units in its first 3 years before sales fell down. The Nano doesn't exist today but Mr.Tata gave us the belief that experimenting on something may pay off when your will to do that is extraordinary.Life after retirement, taking out time and giving us the inspiration we need in our lives. Most of us know that Ratan Tata is no longer holding his post as the head of Tata Motors. He took the decision to retire from the business in 2012, which turned out to be one of the saddest moments of the Tata Group. This truly marked the end of an era for India’s largest conglomerate company back then. After retirement, he has invested in the building up of many startups such as Paytm and Pepperfry to name a few. Other than that, he continues to enthrall us with his presence and inspirational messages. Mr.Tata, after retirement is seen spending more time at home and playing with his dogs besides catching up with “smaller things” for which he never found time before.Mr.Tata even came back to lead the Tata Group, albeit for a short time interval. This was for a four month period running from November 2016 to February 2017. Since then, he has been away from all the work and is often seen in educational institutions as a guest.Ratan Tata is one who stays away from the limelight and gives attention to privacy. He is known to be having a humble background as a person despite what he has achieved in his life. This makes pepole respect him even more and he is no doubt one of the most influential Indian citizens going around today.Thank you.

If it still clashes with someone else’s life story, then you need not worry, keep enjoying reading this story, I will manage the rest.Warning: Some emotional content ahead!Part- 1: The BeginningSo, the story starts with Krishna, a boy belonged to Patna, Bihar who had a crush on a girl named Kavya from another section of Class Xth of his school. Somehow, Krishna managed some courage to approach the girl during the board exams and was only able to introduce himself to her. After the schools, the girl’s family based out of Bihar and shifted to Delhi since Kavya’s father got transferred to Delhi. Kavya and Krishna’s life parted away, they both got engaged in their own lives.Part 2: Love is in the airKrishna worked so hard in Patna but failed to clear the JEE Entrance Examination. Later, he took admission in the ECE stream of a private engineering college in Bhopal. Fate had something else to decide, it was just a coincidence that Krishna saw Kavya in the same college. She was in the CSE branch in the same year. She had become more beautiful and a hottie. He rushed to her, reminded some childhood memories and somehow managed to become her friend. They both started spending time together. Now, talking over the phone started in nights and they started sharing their own life stories. After some days Krishna proposed Kavya, but she rejected his love proposal. She told him that she loves him too but can’t give any commitment since she was ditched by a guy when she was in Delhi, she still loves her ex and unable to move on and unable to trust any other guy.Krishna after knowing all this started taking care of Kavya very much and helped her in moving on from her ex-boyfriend. He used to teach her Engineering Mathematics and some common papers they both shared. While taking care of her so much, he did not care for his own grades. He started loving her even more. At one place he was amongst the seven pointers of his college and Kavya was consistently amongst the top five of her branch. She even topped in some semesters later. After spending one year together, Krishna had won Kavya’s trust and he proposed her again. This time Kavya was unable to refuse and both of them become a popular couple in the college. They both started roaming around the cities together and going out for trips together. Till then, both were perfect for each other. Kavya used to share every minute details and every minute problems of her life with Krishna and he used to motivate her and take her out of any difficult situation. Everything was going perfectly between them. Krishna got his first passionate kiss and a tight hug on his birthday as a gift from Kavya. Krishna was on cloud nine as he was in deep love with her. Kavya loved listening songs and Krishna used to remember lyrics and always loved to sing whenever Kavya demanded the same. Krishna's voice was such soothing and melodious that after listening to his songs Kavya used to forget her menstrual cramps."हो चांदनी जब तक रात, देता है हर कोई साथतुम मगर अंधेरों में न छोड़ना मेरा हाथन कोई है न कोई था, जिंदगी में तुम्हारे सिवातुम देना साथ मेरा, आे हमनवाज़जब कोई बात बिगड़ जाएजब कोई मुश्किल पड़ जाएतुम देना साथ मेरा, आे हमनवाज़..आे हमनवाज़"Part 3: TragedyAfter passing out of the college, Krishna got placed in Infosys and Kavya started working in a startup in Bangalore. Krishna got the base location in Hyderabad but used to travel to Bangalore for meeting her. Now, the problem started here. They both became busy in their own lives and their communication became limited. One day, Kavya told Krishna that her father is looking for a suitable groom for her and she is getting some nice marriage proposals. One of the marriage proposals was from an H1B guy working in a firm in the United States. He felt cheated when she told him that she has agreed to marry that H1B guy. Kavya was making silly excuses like Krishna did not belong to her caste, he is a vegetarian and she is a non-vegetarian, she loves eating chicken so much, her parents are conservative and they will not accept him, she loves her parents more and she did not want to do anything against her parent's will, it doesn't matter how much she loves him, she will not marry him if her parents don't accept him and on and on. She told Krishna not to contact her anymore, she told him a failure, told him that he can’t fulfill her all dreams while working in the Infosys. Krishna tried to convince her that the H1B guy is about five years older than him, he must be given at least one chance to prove himself, he told her that he will tell everything about her to his parents and his parents will try to convince her parents for their marriage. But, Kavya was not ready to listen to anything. She told him that he always fights with her so much, his anger is just unbearable and she can't survive with him anymore. She told him “Ab kuch nahi ho sakta, tum toh America jane ki sapne hi dekhte rehna, I am going to fly US within two months” and she hung up the call. After getting annoyed by Krishna’s calls and messages, she blocked him everywhere including every social media platform they shared. Krishna was really broken, he felt so much dejected and tried everything out to get her back. Even once he met her with help of some common friends but she was rigid with her decision, still he kept begging her to come back into his life, he was ready to do anything for her, he kept mailing her, kept begging her but nothing worked, he really fucked up his own self-respect very badly. After a few months, he came to know that Kavya got married to the same H1B guy. He got into depression, his performance in the office declined drastically, his whole life looked dark. He became suicidal, started blaming Kavya for all failures and problems of his life. He started considering himself a loser who could not achieve anything big in his life. These questions and answers where revolving in his mind: “Why she left me at such a low point of my life? Why don't she trusted my capabilities? Whether she needed someone for just time-pass and pleasure? Whether she needed someone for emotional dumping? Whether she wanted a new boyfriend for just moving on from her ex-boyfriend? Whether my job in Infosys was not enough for marrying her or she just left me for money and in hope of a better life in the US on a dependent visa? and on and on.” He even wanted to take revenge for leaving him in such a condition and wanted to disclose her every secret to everyone, he wanted to expose her in front of everybody, but he chose to remain silent. He never preferred consuming alcohol or cigarettes in such a depressing condition. Krishna broke down completely, he was unable to get over from all the memories he shared with Kavya. He was unable to forget all the kisses and hugs he had with her. He used to cry almost daily either by hiding his face under the pillow or under the shower while taking bath. He was getting haunted even in nights as he was seeing Kavya in his dreams almost daily. He started getting panic attacks. No one was there for helping him in moving out from this situation. He seemed to be hopeless and helpless." What doesn’t kill you really makes you stronger, it really makes a fighter.Few months passed and Krishna somehow became stable. He slowly started believing that Kavya has left her completely and she is not going to return back ever. He started doing meditation, hitting out at the gym and slowly started gaining his lost self-confidence and self-esteem. He almost stopped visiting home, cut himself from everybody from his past and deactivated all his social media accounts. He started saving most of his salaries earned, and when he had around two lacs rupees left with him he resigned from his job without letting his parents know about this. He started preparing for a competitive exam called GATE. He worked so hard and got a decent rank next year and took admission in M.Tech. (VLSI & Micro-Electronics), Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras. The fun part here is that after about three months Krishna's parents got to know about him that he is in Chennai right now and got this much of rank in the GATE. It was really unexpected for them but still, they were so much happy after hearing that their son is in an IIT. Here is not the end. Krishna started working even harder day and night, he kept crying and studying hand in hand together. Whenever he felt low, these last few words told by Kavya reminded him to work even harder: “Ab kuch nahi ho sakta, tum toh America jane ki sapne hi dekhte rehna, I am going to fly US within two months”. He made these lines his ultimate source of motivation which always charged him up whenever he felt low or got thinking about giving up.Under the guidance of the guide like Professor Ramachandran sir, he published four research papers and journals in the prestigious IEEE. He maintained a decent 8.9 CGPA during his whole masters. Professor Ramachandran Sir used to praise him so much, he kept telling everyone about Krishna’s dedication towards his academics. It was really tough to realize, how an average student from some private engineering college who was getting a mere seven pointers during his graduation, who somehow got placed in Infosys is now publishing research papers, getting nine pointers in his masters from the prestigious IIT. After his masters, his parents told him to marry but he refused to do so, maybe he became misogamy and started disliking the concept of marriage. It is just foolish for us to comment on how much Krishna loved Kavya. But on the other side, Krishna's career was still flourishing, after completing his masters with such decency, he started preparing for the GRE and TOEFL in which he soon got very decent scores. He got an offer of 100 percent scholarship from the University of Texas with paid internships for pursuing his Ph.D. and research work from there. He moved to the US and achieved new heights there, he did some great work in the field of Micro-Electronics and Ultra Large Scale Integration (ULSI). Krishna completed his Ph.D. within four years and had many luxurious pre-placement offers from world’s top semiconductor chip companies after his internships. Krishna is currently living in the San Diego, California, United States and now leading one of the R&D Team in the company like Qualcomm and has contributed very much to the development of its Snapdragon processor series. He is earning in seven figures in the US Dollars and recently received his Green Card.Part 5: ForgivenessRecently, Krishna got to know that Kavya is in the same city staying with her husband who is doing some Tier-3 job in a well-reputed firm there. Krishna contacted Kavya to meet him, it was really unexpected for Kavya but this time she was too excited to meet him. The reunion happened, Krishna got to know that he had no any grudges left for her, he had already forgiven her completely and the taste of success was overcoming every bitter memory. He was so much thankful to Kavya and even thanked her and credited all his achievements to her. He told her “Thank you so much! Thanks for leaving me. Whatever I have achieved and got is due to you only. Tumne meri zindagi bana di (you made my life).”Krishna was adoring Kavya’s son “Krish” as he was so cute. The feeling of regret was clearly visible in Kavya’s eyes. She was literally crying from inside. She really felt sorry for him. Today neither she was able to find any proper reason behind leaving Krishna nor she was able to prove her decision of leaving Krishna right. She now understood the meaning of the following quote: “Never ignore someone who cares for you because someday you’ll realize you’ve lost a diamond while you were busy collecting stones.”Today Krishna is enjoying his life to the fullest, maybe in the near future, a girl will definitely come in his life who will marry him and love him like no one did.__________END___________Lessons from this story:1. Cowards take revenge; they prove the girl’s/guy’s decision of leaving them right by taking revenge. Revenge brings temporary satisfaction but it comes with the worst feeling of guilt and regrets, having your chest off from these feelings is tougher than just moving on.2. Silence and Forgiveness is the best remedy to heal faster.3. Work-hard silently, your success will speak louder. Since success is the best revenge.4. Girls, please keep breaking heart of guys, you are indirectly contributing in some great research work and letting guys knowing their full potential.5. So guys/girls please stop running behind girls/guys respectively, in this way you are getting nothing, neither that girl/guy nor your career. It is better to at least focus on your career. Never deal with your self-esteem and self-respect.6. Make breakups your source of motivation, vent out your anger in doing something constructive. Realize your self-worth and strive to achieve something big in your life.7. Hey guys/girls, please don’t love if you don’t have any courage to be with your partner. Please observe your family situation first (if they can allow a love-marriage or not) then only make someone fall in love with you. If caste is really a problem then love only that girl/guy who belongs to your caste. Being in a relationship must not be just for time-pass and pleasure. Remember one thing, bouncing back in life like “Krishna” requires lots of efforts and it’s not that easy for everyone.8.
