Job Family Quality: Fill & Download for Free

My answer is: Kaggle is not helpful in terms of job hunting purpose.There are usually two types of jobs that “Kaggle participants” are thinking about. One is the Data Scientist job family, which could mean anything; another one is Machine Learning Engineer. Let me elaborate on what these two job families look like in big tech companies (Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Netflix etc. ) :Data Scientists in Google and Facebook are mostly focused on analytics. For example, how to use data-driven approach to design metrics and experiments to evaluate many business strategies, such as ads targeting etc. The Data Science teams are mostly Statistics PhD holders who have very strong background in statistical inference, bayesian statistics and modeling (at least at Google). Other tech companies might focus a little bit more on ML modeling, but as far as I know, Data Science teams in tech companies are mostly focused on data analytics, visualizations, experimental designs (A/B testing etc.), Statistical modeling and inference.Machine Learning Engineers in tech companies are essentially software engineers with strong domain knowledge in machine learning. Their jobs are mostly implementing ML algorithms in both prototyping and production phase. Depending on what teams you are working on, you might focus more on the systems side or the algorithms side. but your job would be pretty much focusing on delivering high-quality code, and occasionally will contribute to the algorithms development or systems optimization.There are also one special job family which is called Machine Learning Research Scientist. This job mainly focused on original research on machine learning and AI. Typical examples include Research Labs in Facebook, Google, Deepmind, Salesforce, Microsoft etc. It usually requires candidates to have at least a PhD degree in machine learning, and have published in top ML/AI conferences.You can easily find that Kaggle competition does not fit into any of the 3 job families. It is a great place to learn and play with ML models, but I won’t put too much weight on it unless your other credentials stand up.

Yes, I was working as a salesman for some very high quality window dressings, blinds. curtains, shutters etc. he didn’t actually ask but I actually didn’t have a clue eitherAt the time I was working north london rather than my home patch.I went to this old victorian terrace house and was working thru my pitch, taking an interest in the customer, his job, family etc etc.I asked the customer (quite a tall dark haired bloke)what he did for a living and he said he was a musician, I said that’s interesting, I play classical piano myself (i do actually) and asked if he had enjoyed much professional success. He put on one of those wry slight smile expressions and said “just a little bit, yeah”I just carried straight on with the pitch (failed to make a sell btw) and thought nothing of it.Quite a few months later I was relaxing at home and his face popped up on the TV (or a face just like that one) and it was Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol. Apparently they are a “little bit successful”……who knew???……..not me obviously doh!!!

A person who drives a cab, an Uber, a truck, or who works as a car mechanic, or a janitor, or a librarian, a teacher, a carpenter, a nurse etc… to pay for his/her family’s food, housing, health care, education, clothes, telephone/internet bills etc….facing higher costs across the board for these and other necessities of life that consumes the total family income while preventing the possibility of accumulating a few bucks for savings ( never mind to play the stock market) WHAT THE HELL WOULD IT MATTER THAT THE DOW JONES HIT 21,000 ???sWake up and look around…in urban, suburban and rural areas families’ quality of life is falling, the average family is holding down more than 1 job, has debt rather than savings ( never mind retirement nest egg), can’t afford the education to lift them out of chronic borderline financial crisis, are 1 crisis away from becoming bankrupt and homeless.So why the hell would they support this Robber Baron who is making their life worse by cutting funds to public education, fighting minimum wage increases, fighting unions, exporting jobs for his own private businesses, cutting funds for housing subsidies, limiting access to Medicaid and Child Health Insurance Program, fighting to cut unemployment benefits, Social Security etc.
