If you want a guard dog for home protection of your belongings, get another dog. A Wolfhound will show the burglar where the TV is….right up until he thinks you are looking to harm the family.They are big. Pictures don’t do their real size justice. You can read the CKC/AKC standards and go: “Oh, 32” and the shoulder, and 125 pounds? Perfect!”No, not perfect. That’s the minimum standard for the breed. Less, and it is not representative of the breed.I have a male, from a very good breeder that breeds some very big Wolfhounds.My vet tells me mine will be approximately 37” at the shoulder and between 165–170 pounds. They can get bigger than that.It’s like having a pony walking through your home.He is already 6’8” long from nose to tail. He stands over 7’ tall, and he is only 13 months old, and they can grow until three years old.An animal like that needs a lot of room. You need a very big yard, and/or be able to walk that dog very regularly. Even with my one acre back yard, my dog goes for 2 6km walks per day.
