PDF Editor FAQ
What is the craziest thing you've had to do as a business owner to get someone to pay a bill?
My family owns a guest house and I was the manager for a while. Our biggest clientele are corporate and government, corporate payments were on time and without having to email or call their accounts department.Government! My word, what a hassle. We had special rates for government entities, usually much higher because of the length of time it took for us to get payment. We had 6 guests from one department, staying with us for 2 weeks. Their purchase order said payment would be done 14 working days after invoices are submitted. Unfortunately, 4 months came and went without payment. Whenever we call the accounts department, they give excuse upon excuse. Eventually I pulled out the registration forms the guests fill out and sign when they check in, I contacted each guest to ask payment from them. They initially refused till I reminded them that when they signed, according to our Ts and Cs, they are responsible for ensuring that their accommodation is settled. They still refused and together with their account department tried ganging up on me. Now we are 6 months with no payment.I emailed each guest that I would be reporting them to the credit bureau for nonpayment if they do not settle the invoices themselves. I got full payment in less than 24hrs.Since then, that government entity must pay us in full before we accept any of their guests.Edit: Wow, thank you for the comments and upvotes. This is a common issue for small businesses in South Africa, we are encouraged to start our own businesses and seek government assistance yet this same government fails to pay for services rendered. There are a lot of businesses that have closed shop as a result.
How will Wuhan test 11 million people for Covid-19 in 10 days?
I am also surprised. It may seem like mission impossible but we never know if it can be done after it is finished (just like those 2 newly built hospitals)Personally I haven’t got any news from the community about how this would be carried out so I will not comment further. I will update as soon as this test begins.I can say that the 3rd grade students, as well as all the teachers in my middle school as well as my high school had all been tested before they got back to school, which was roughly a week ago. So I guess the ability to test people is there, whether there will be a massive test for everyone and how it would be carried out remains to be seen.Updating after one hour, 10PM, March13thI contacted the community worker who takes care of all people in my apartment building as well as 2 more. She is one of the many community workers who take care of our neighborhood. She said that this new 11 million test idea was put forward because that we had 7 new confirmed patients popping up out of no where yesterday.(‘Out of no where’ means that they had no clear contact with anyone) They were asymptomatic after they were tested positive and they showed syptoms after several days of self-quarantine.She is now giving out a form via Wechat to ask residents to fill out. We will submit our names, IDs, addresses, phone numbers, ages and whether we had a covid-19 test or not. According to her after this submission data is collected, there might be a free nucleic test for those who haven’t been tested. This is a new order from the government so more details are still being discussed.I believe that this new 11 million test is mainly aimed at old people as they are the most vulnerable. The reason I make this statement is that all working adults had been tested near 8th April when the lockdown ended and they returned to work. Everyone will need to be tested before they return to their jobs. The young also got tested when they returned to school. That leaves out the old among whom many are still living like it is hell out there. There are many elderly people in my community and they told me that they are still afraid to go out because they are afraid they would catch the virus. Many did refrain from going out of the community and have their supplies delivered to their doors via online orders. So I believe this is a new policy that will mainly benefit the old. I will update later as more details unveil. Stay tuned.Updating at 1AM,16th May.They started to test people yesterday. The communities that first finished collecting the data get to get tested first and mine was not a quick runner:)Honestly the details of how this test would be carried out were sent out on 13th May, I just did not see it from my community notices. I will translate several parts of these documents about the details.1, The nucleic acid test is free for this time.2, Residents who had a previous nucleic acid test more than a month ago will need to get retested.3, This test is for all that normally lives in the district.5, The test should be carried out in an open area. The doctors will come to the community to do the tests. (The first community that finishes collecting the data get to start the testing first)6, All that were registered should be tested in 8 days, no more than 10 days.8, Kids below 6 should do not do this test.If the test is taken outdoor, then it should be an open cool airy area. Temporary tents would be set along with tables, chairs with backrest and stools. When taking noon breaks the whole area need to be disinfected using bleach. If the test is taken indoor, then it should have a spilt type air conditioner and the room should be sealed and disinfected every 4 hours. Apart from the tables, chairs and stools, there should also be a register table at the door with chairs.Every community will need 3 workers to help with the test. For every 4–5 thousand residents there should be a team of 7 doctors to do the nucleic test. For each community there should be 2 police officers to help maintain order and guard security. All residents should take this test. Every person who is of the following 9 types will need to take the test.1, The confirmed cases, The asymptomatic positive ones, suspected cases as well as those who had close contact with them. Also all those who are having a fever.2, All School workers. teachers, support workers etc. (those whose jobs are related to the education system)3, Medical workers. (those whose jobs are related to medical system)4, Public transportation workers, including metro system workers, bus drivers ,taxi drivers who were appointed to communities during the ourbreak etc.5, Bank workers and supermarket workers.6, Volunteers and community workers who did their job during the outbreak.7, Civil Servants.8, Those who returned to Wuhan from foreign districts.9, Those who will leave Wuhan to work in other districts. So Wu Hao is correct as it did not mention the old people in this notice. And just like him I also believe that everyone would just end up getting tested.I received the notice from my community worker 5 hours ago in the wechat group. She told us that the test for all residents in my apartment building (4th in 6 buildings) would begin at 9 AM this sunday and last for about 40 mins. The 5th and 6th would then follow to take the test. The residents in the first 3 apartment buildings would be tested this saturday, today. She also said that for all residents we need to take our ID, a smartphone and a spare mask with us. We need to consume no water or food before 1 hour of the test. Those who were confirmed cases, suspected cases, close contacts and ones with fever would take the test another time to avoid a potential spread.I would be updating today (after a roughly 7 hours’ sleep?) when I go down to see how this test is commencing for the residents in the first 3 apartment buildings. I am curious just like everyone else by now.Updating at 11 PM May 16th.The temporary tents have been set on my community’s basketball playground this morning and the residents of the first 3 apartment buildings have been tested this afternoon. These are from my friend who took the test today. His community provides both nucleic test.My test is on tomorrow morning. I will need to take some rest now…Updating at 10 AM May 17th.I took the test 1 hour ago.Below were taken before I took the test as the medical workers put on their protective gears and community workers start setting fences. Several elderly people got up early in the morning and went down to queue to get tested earlier. The test starts at around 8:30 and the steps are as follows:1, Registration Area where IDs are checked into the system to see if it has been registered (I filled out the registration form online 3 days ago so my ID is in the system) and register those who haven’t.2, Material Distribution Area. You get a number according to the registration form and workers use that number to find the bar code that matches your name and put that bar code on the tubes. For example my ID is 1234567 and they will find my ID on the registration form where my test number is A44. I then tell the other 2 workers my number A44 and they will find the 2 bar codes that matches my name and number. They will then stick the bar codes on the 2 different tubes that will be later used for tests before they hand them to me. On the right are the workers who are looking for the matching bar codes as there are just too many of them. They said that it might be better if they had just moved the bar code printing machine here and to print on spot instead of finding the printed codes.3, Nucleic Test Area. A smaller one of the 2 tubes is for the nucleic test. I believe many have done this where they stick that into your throat to get the sample. It is really quick, few seconds and it is done. Nucleic test is a must-take for all residents in Wuhan unlike the antibody test. Only several districts of Wuhan City provide free antibody test and that includes Wuchang District where I am currently living in.This is the volunteer who tested me. He called out ‘handsome’ to me while I was approaching. We had a good chat. LOL. Damn he might be much more ‘handsome’ without those protective gears but he is definitely much more professional and protected in those suits.4, Antibody Test Area. Blood sample from the vein. The longer tube is for this where the doctors draw the blood into it. So it is not a ‘get the result right on the scene’ kind of test as they will get it tested later on, but it still gets the job done. They said that both results would be sent online when it came out. After I finished testing, I talked to some workers who are not that busy. They said that 10 days’ limit was for each individual districts and not for Wuhan city as a whole. They told me that they only tested about 300 people in my community yesterday afternoon and the original plan to finish the test this morning for the community as a whole is very likely to be extended to the whole day. So it IS a hard job to test all those people in such a short time but I do hope they get it done. More medical workers and more community workers will surely push this task further.Updating at 9 AM May 18th.The team of medical workers did stay in my community to test until about 6PM yesterday. But it was already pretty empty by 3 PM last afternoon as most people in my community had already been tested by then. They stayed for a few more hours because they would not be able to test another community as it is getting late.According to the notice, I will receive my test results in less than 48 hours and I can look it up online once it came out. It is said that about 4–5% people who had been tested have the antibody which is a little higher than expected. I have a strange feeling that I have the antibody…Pure guess though. But the test has not finished in my community. There are mainly 2 types of people who have not been tested. The old who had trouble walking, standing and waiting (especially in the sun); The ones who were confirmed cases or suspected cases. The community workers told me that they would arrange for another time to test these people door to door to better help these more vulnerable groups of people. I appreciate the effort they poured into caring these people as that is what caring means. There are also some people who did not register in time and cannot get the bar code to do the test. They will wait for further notice from the community. The medical team in my community yesterday will be moving to test another neighboring community today. That community is much bigger than mine and that means longer time would be taken and more teams would be sent. I am waiting to see the result from them.Updating at 14 PM May 19th.I got my antibody test result from the wechat platform of the hospital from which the team of medical workers who tested my community were selected. Both are negative. So it seems my instincts were wrong after all :) The nucleic test result has not yet come out but I suppose it will within 24 hours. I guess I will have to keep waiting. My aunt and uncle who is living in the same community with my family got both their test results. That includes the nucleic test results and their results are also negative. Many in my community have received both test results and I wonder why is my nucleic test results not coming out…10 AM May 21th.Still no nucleic results. I am getting a little anxious as many in my community have already received both their results. I am quite sure that they have tested my sample and I suspect that they made a mistake when uploading the results.Meanwhile many other communities are still undergoing tests and it would possibly go for a few more days than expected. We will wait for the official report until the end of this massive test. Also Robin Daverman has a perfect answer to why this test took place. It is mostly about boosting confidence. 50 days have passed and Wuhan is still slowly recovering, much slower than other parts of the country. People are afraid to come here and there are incidents where locals are discriminated against in other provinces despite their health code shows they are healthy. Most restaurants still have much much less customers than ususal and businesses are suffering. I talked to a restaurant owner and he told me that he expect this to continue to maybe September when college students came back to study in Wuhan (Wuhan has a lot of universities).Despite reopened, Wuhan is still not fully back to normal and we need some confidence in the people, and in the city, to help it recover. A massive test will surely do the job.Robin Daverman's answer to Do you think China will really test all 11 million Wuhan residents for Coronavirus (Covid-19)?Updating at 11PM May 23th.I did not update for 2 days because I was preparing for my exam and it was exhausting…I received my nucleic test result yesterday and it was negative. According the officials the nucleic test results will be then linked to the health QR code which works like a pass. The QR code is what everyone needs to get access to places. Green code give you access to almost everywhere while the yellow and red ones limit your access. This screenshot below contains several personal information and so I blurred some of them. On the top there is my name and ID number. In the middle there is the green health code which says I am healthy (at least covid free). On the bottom there is the nucleic test result. You may notice that there are 2 closed eyes with the shape of eyelashes on the right side of the screen. Once tapped, those 2 eyes will open and reveal the true information next to them instead of the dots just in case that you may not want it to be noticed.Meanwhile more of my friends are getting tested in other districts of the city. You may notice that the community where my friend lives even provides stools for everyone in the line which is more considerate compared to mine:( Residents in my community had to bring their own chairs when waiting:(My community worker told us 2 hour ago that the people who hadn’t registered during my community’s test will need to go to another nearby community to get tested. That is about 800m and some complain that there are quite some old people and they may have trouble getting there. The community worker responds that there will be community volunteers who will be there to help them. There are questions as to this 10 day limit and I explained that according to medical workers in my community this limit is for each individual districts, not the city as a whole. But I suspect they will get it done within 10days anyway. I will be going to that nearby big community next monday to see how their tests are doing. Maybe it will all be finished by then.Updating at 11AM May 25th.My community notifies us this morning in the wechat group that today is the last day of this city wide free test and those who miss this chance will need to get tested on their own if they need test results to go to work or visit other places. The goverment also texted everyone saying that whoever missed the test will be given another chance to register before 17 PM, May 26th, tomorrow in order to get tested free of charge. So it seems they did manage to pull off this massive test in 10 days as every communities did provide a free test opportunity for every residents. At least this is the situation in my community. I am satisfied with what they provide and it has shown positive results. My teacher said that the one major benefit of this massive test is that as there are very few people who have been tested positive, people are confident to go out more and to have fun. She and her family went out to a farm to pick up strawberries yesterday which is a clear sign that confidence is back. I am looking forward to seeing tourism back in summer and I wish that is not just a fantasy :)
How can I increase user registration on my website?
In case you’re having difficulties meeting the target registration rate for your website, don’t dispare. You are not alone. Many organisations struggle with converting website visitors into registered users and feel that they are unable to utilize their website to its full potential. There a lot of possible solutions to your problems and using some of the traffic tools that can be at your disposal might be just the right thing for your website. The truth is that web users today have become very demanding, and a lot less patient. The average user spends no more than 15 seconds on a web page (Based on a study conducted by Chartbeat). There is a lot of great content out there and the competition is fierce, in almost every sector. If you are unable to grab your user’s attention and successfully (and quickly) lead them where you want them to go, you will lose out. From the moment a vistor lands on your site, by searching on Google, from a social media campaign, a referring website or any other source, the journey through to conversion begins.1. Give your users a great reason to registerThis might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many organisations simply don’t offer enough of an incentive to register on their site. Completing a registration form, no matter how simple (more about that in a minute) is asking a lot of your users. You need to make it worth their while. The incentive will differ greatly from organisation to organisation, but here are a few ideas that might work for you:Access to restricted content that is relevant to your target audience, such as guides, documents, images, videos or software. The ability to interact within a members-only community, including sending personal messages to other members, taking part in group discussions and sharing information.A personalised profile. If you have the option of creating a personalised member zone, complete with each user’s details and content catered specifically for them based on their preferences or past activity on your site, this is a great benefit and has the added value of providing a better user experience which is likely to result in your users returning to the site time and time again.A taste of your product or service. This is a great way of reaching out to people who have already shown an interest in your product or service and allowing them to get to know it better.A bonus gift. If all else fails, offer a small gift of appreciation such as a free item or a discount voucher. This small gesture to your user, thanking them for signing up on your site, will surely be appreciated and will undoubtedly increase your registration rate. Try to find a gift that is relevant to your organisation, to ensure that you are attracting the right audience.2. Provide a clear CTA (Call to Action) with prominent placementOk, you’ve given your users a great reason to register on your site. Now you have to make it extremely easy for them to find out where to do so. Your average user spends 15 seconds on your site, remember? Make it really simple (and fast) for them to find your registration form. A/B Testing and analyses of hundreds of websites around the world have come to the relatively intuitive conclusion that the more your ‘Call to Action’ stands out on your website, the more likely people are to click on it. How can you make sure your CTA stands out?Use colours, shapes and a font that attract attention. Use bold colours and shapes that stand out against the background of your site. Use an interesting font (but make sure it’s easy to read). Making your CTA prominent will draw the user’s attention to it.Use simple language. To ensure your users understand the action expected of them, use simple language on your CTA button such as “join us” or “donate now”. Creativity is definitely a plus as this will draw attention to your CTA, but it should first and foremost be simple and the message clear.Positioning your CTA. It is advisable to keep the amount of clicks a user has to make through to your form to an absolute minimum. Your user should be able to reach your registration form in one click, no matter where they are on your website. Therefore, it is important to have a sign up button on the homepage, but also on any other relevant page that your users might be accessing. Keep in mind that Google’s search results often link to internal pages, as opposed to your homepage, so the user might not have even passed through your homepage on the way to the current page they are viewing.3. Create an effective registration formYou’ve managed to bring your site visitor to the registration form, hurrah! Unfortunately, this is the most vulnerable place for user drop off. So it is now imperative that we take extra care to ensure the user follows through with the registration process. Here are a few things to keep in mind when designing (or reviewing) your form:Keep your form short. In a case study to determine the most effective way to set up online registration forms, short forms (3-4 fields long) outperformed long ones by a landslide, garnering a conversion rate of 74.6% (prospects who visited the landing page and completed the form), compared to only 50% from the longer form. So try to create a short form and only ask for the fields you absolutely need.Use headers and simple language. Make it easy for your users to understand what you are asking of them, and how best to complete your form by explaining each part simply and briefly and providing context in the form of headers where appropriate.Create informative error messages. One of the most frustrating scenarios your user might find themselves in, is filling out a form is not being able to submit it because of an error. Make sure your user can easily find their mistake by highlighting the problematic field and providing a helpful error message, such as “email addresses must be in the following format…”Using Auto-fill and images on your form. Using images instead of, or alongside text where appropriate, make the form easier to read and more visually pleasing. Using auto fill tools, such as Address finder web forms, reduce time and effort while filling out the form and also reduce input errors.Split the process into steps. If you require more than a handful of fields for registration, split the form up into parts so that it looks less intimidating. Users are more likely to carry through with filling out a form if they have already submitted a part of it.Show your user where they are in the process. Number the parts of the form and indicate to your user where they are at and what they still have left to complete (i.e. page 2 of 3).Choose your required fields carefully. Make sure you’re only asking for fields you absolutely need. If we haven’t convinced you of the importance of keeping a short registration form so far, this just might – When Expedia removed the “Company” field from their forms, their yearly revenue increased by $12 million.Optional fields? Should you leave some fields optional, so that the user can still submit the form if these are left blank? This is a matter of opinion. Some organisations add fields which are optional in the hopes that these will not scare off potential subscribers (by lengthening the form), but offer others a chance to fill out this information should they be so inclined. From our experience, this doesn’t usually work. The form will look longer and therefore more intimidating, and most users will not fill out optional fields anyway. We think it better to decide one way or another whether each field is truly important for your organisation and if not, leave it off of the form altogether.Progressive profiling. Here’s another option for those of you who are having trouble letting go of those “optional” fields. A newer, incremental approach to collecting profile data, is progressive profiling. By this method you collect small snippets of information at carefully staged opportunities. For example, after a user has registered on your website and performed some kind of an activity, you can ask them for a piece of personal information relating to that activity (such as adding their phone number when logging onto your website from a mobile device).Social Login is becoming an increasingly popular way of authenticating website users by using their existing social media accounts. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google contain information about their users, and by allowing social login you can obtain some of this information. This option simplifies the registration process immensely for the user but requires a certain degree of trust. Users are unlikely to provide their social media login details to a website they don’t trust completely. This option is also limited in that you cannot choose the fields yourself but must rely on the information provided to you via the social media platforms.Safety. If you’re asking users to provide credit card details or other sensitive information, you need to ensure that your website is properly secure. Apart from having safety features in place, you need to inform your users that this is indeed the case to put their mind at ease. Provide an icon or explanation about secure browsing and assure your users that security features are in place on your site.
