PDF Editor FAQ
Would you say that very few of your adolescent dreams for the life you wanted have come true, and has it mattered?
By the time I was a ten I knew I wanted to be a minister or, at the very least, involved in ministry. I figured that would look like traditional ministry or the Roman Catholic priesthood, but as my ambitions grew I wound up starting as a fire service chaplain. I earned multiple certifications, three Bible college degrees, and I was ordained by the ministry I worked with for almost ten years before I was ordained a priest by the Reformed Catholic Church. I’ve done so many other things besides ministry as far as gainful employment is concerned (driver, rescue technician, guitar instructor, machine operator, sales associate, etc.), but I’ve kept that dream alive for the past 21 years. I doubt that I’ll give up on it any point in my life now. Once a priest always a priest. Now I bring ministry to people in all sorts of different ways. I run a spiritual care and Christian life coaching practice, I serve as an infantry chaplain with the Connecticut State Guard (overseen by the National Guard), I’m an interior firefighter and fire service chaplain at my local fire department, I run a small Reformed Catholic parish, and I’m very active in online ministry. I’ve had a heart for this since I was a little kid and there’s no end in sight.
What is meant by state/province/county?
In the United States, a State is one of the 50 semi-autonomous regions of the country. They have their own head of state (Governor), Legislature, and Supreme Court but are of course subject to all Federal Laws. A county is a much smaller divison of a state. They usually don’t have much autonomy besides financial allocation and certain cultural influence. Then, a further division, is the city or town. Counties also have their own governments and act as an intermediary between the State and the local governments. In small ‘villages’ or unincorporated areas of a state, the County acts as the de-facto local government, providing police and fire services and infrastructure maintenance in addition to judiciary, prison, and land registration. One state calls their counties “Parishes” (Louisiana), a nod to the French Catholic origins of the state. Two states don’t have counties as functional designations, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, instead they exist purely for geographical purposes. The word “Province” doesn’t really exist in US lexicon, but in Canada it’s virtually the same as saying, “State” in the US. I’m not Canadian though.Hope this helps
Are emergency ambulance services free in the US? I see people on here talking about the cost, but on TV and films they seem to all be operated by the fire service, which is a public service. Can someone help clarify this for me?
I doubt there are very many, if any, free ambulance services in America. Even services run by municipalities bill for services. It really isn't fiscally responsible to provide the service for free when you can bill insurance to recoup tax dollars spent. Ambulance calls aren't free even if the employees are volunteers. It is just as expensive to run a volunteer service as it is to run a commercial or municipal service. It's just that volunteer services don't have to pay wages but many volunteer services offer incentive programs to help their members who give up their personal time to help the community. I was the Chief of Services for a small volunteer service, we didn't receive much of anything from the town and we had an annual budget of 500K+.In Connecticut we can only bill for services if we transport the patient. So even though a non transport call could cost the service several hundred dollars there is no way to recoup those expenses if we don't transport.
