PDF Editor FAQ

How many recipes out of a cookbook do you actually use?

None.Oh, I learned to cook, in part, from cookbooks. And I’ve taken several recipes from them, over the years. But cookbooks, today, are dead, I search for recipes online, not in a book… gradually, I’ve learned that I’m not really going to look in books anymore, and managed to stop buying them. But let’s say you mean to include online as a “book”Still practically never. To tell you why that is, I have to tell you a little story. When I was in my early teens, my dad for some reason decided he wanted to take a course in Chinese cooking at the local community college. My mom, out of an excess of caution, decided he could only do so if he took me with him, figuring that the class would have many eligible ladies and few men, but that having a son with him would somehow fend them off. Look, I can’t tell you what their relationship was, whether this was a realistic caution, whether in fact it would have worked at all if it was, I’m just telling you, I was drafted. The woman teaching the course had assembled a bunch of recipes, and over the span of a couple months taught us all how to prepare them… but more importantly she taught us her philosophy of cooking, which was that the recipes were merely a suggestion, a starting point. She taught us the techniques, how to work with the ingredients, the various cooking styles… but also how to gaze into the abyss of your cupboard and refrigerator and select things you happened to have in order to make something good to eat.Until then, I always slavishly cooked exactly what was in the recipe, exactly the way, exactly the cooking times.Since then, I’ve almost never done that… and when I do, it’s just to see what exactly the recipe is, so that in the future I can make it to my taste. But at this point, with decades of cooking experience, it’s rare for me to even do that. I almost always alter the recipe even first time.

What made you happy today?

This question asked in the show Kaun Banega crorepatiPicture credit _ vikas khanna instagram account.Edit 1- I'm not against Carry Minati. The caption to my story was for my friends who were celebrating his question being asked in KBC. I share feeling like them in case of vikas sir.We all know how difficult times have been in the times of covid 19 pandemic situation. During lockdown every section of the society faced problems particularly the daily wage workers and poor labourers. There was a shortage for grains and food. We all know that some responsible celebrities like Sonu Sood sir helped people in their way. However, today while watching the KBC show I felt happy that I knew the answer to this question since I followed Chef Vikas's feed India campaign through news.He is an amazing personality. He is an Indian Michelin star chef, restaurateur, cookbook writer, filmmaker and humanitarian. He is one of the judges of Master chef India.Born with misalignment of feet he had difficulty walking until age of 13.He started his first food outlet wherein he took orders of festival and Kitty Parties at young age. He shared a story how his family belived no work to be insignificant and he helped his bebe(grandmother) and mom whom he still adores a lot.He was entrusted with responsibility to prepare a culinary treat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CEOs of top global companies with a cumulative worth of approximately $4 trillion. He's popularised many versions of famous Indian dish khichdi as his patent dishes. He gives service every year in Amritsar sahib langar in memory of his bebe.He did a directorial debut recently in a film titled The Last colour. He's a simple sweet soul who's rooted to his culture and values.Once he narrated a story For why since the last 26 years, he has made it a point to observe a one-day fast during the holy month of Ramzan. The reason is both heartbreakingly sweet and terrifying, and it dates back to 1992, when a Muslim family saved Vikas's life from a frenzied mob.How I summarise him-Genuine inspiration and a self made man.

Life advice for a 22 year old?

I ordered maple syrup covered pancakes with a side of bacon. My girlfriend got eggs benedict.I could feel the sugar flowing through my veins. I felt like a five-year-old after red cordial. Monkey bars would’ve been no issue. My meal was sweet but my view was sweeter. I got to share my birthday breakfast with a beautiful girl.I woke up a year older than I went to bed. Almost.“You weren’t born until 9:56 a.m., it’s not your birthday yet.” my mum says every year. 22 was no different. We got home from breakfast and my family had littered the table with presents. More spoiled than the ends of my long golden locks. I hadn’t had a haircut in 18-months. And somehow still had the same girlfriend. My parents booked me a test to get a jet ski license. My girlfriend bought me a cookbook and some underwear. I told her I liked it but I couldn’t eat anything in there because of the diet protocol I was on - what a dick. I messaged her two-years later saying I was sorry. I still wear the underwear.I was out of presents so we went downstairs. It was time.Every year, I buy a money tin on my birthday. Throughout the next year, every single bit of cash I get goes straight into the money tin. No questions asked. Coins, notes. This was the bounty after turning 22.How much was it?$1865.40 of sweet mullah. It was a birthday present to myself.Sometimes it sucked having to put every single bit of cash into the money tin. But seeing this made it all worth it.I bought another money tin for $2.One of the money tins you can’t open. You can see how I had to break it open in the first photo.I took my girlfriend out to dinner. We had pasta at our favourite restaurant. Breakfast and dinner with a beautiful girl. I hit the jackpot. It was a good birthday. We broke up close to a year later. Two months before my 23rd birthday. It sucked. But it taught me something.Every night, I’d write down how I was feeling. It helped. After a few weeks of digging into my own head, I found it, the reason why I wasn’t feeling so great.I’d given all my love to her but had forgot to love myself. She was my shield. I was invincible.Bad day at work? Didn’t matter. I’d go home to her. Then I started looking in the mirror every morning.“I love you Daniel Bourke.”“I love you Daniel Bourke.”“I love you.”I’d keep repeating it whilst looking myself in the eyes.I fell back in love with myself. All my flaws, all my strengths, every single piece. I gave myself superpowers. It’s a daily practice. It’ll feel weird in the beginning. You don’t have to look in the mirror like I did but remind yourself every day. Remind yourself how much you love yourself. In order to share your love with others, you have to share it with yourself.22 is a hard time. Social media will tell you-you should be a millionaire by now, your parents are wondering why you haven’t graduated college with top grades and everyone will offer advice in a form shaped by their past, not yours (including me).None of these things matter if you love yourself.Happy birthday.Oh and get a money tin. One you can’t open. Put all your coins and loose change you get over the next year in there. Open it on your birthday. Love is amazing but not many restaurants will accept it as payment.
