For fuck’s sake man we invented the fucking word.It derives from the Viking period in the north when America on the map was designated as “Here be Monsters”.Actually the frequency of this word in the UK is much higher than in the US, much higher.I would say though that we are much less crude in its use. For instance in the US they will combine their mother and this word to create a very disgusting word which is rarely heard in the UK and when it is, is immediately met with complaint. We just don’t talk about our mothers in that way, we leave that to the Italians.Fun fact: the first time I heard the use of this word or rather its translation with mother and God was in Malta. I was shocked then and I am still shocked today. I couldn’t get my head around a culture who revered a woman “Mary” and “God” were happy to insult both by telling someone to go fuck them and their mothers. Had I used such language my father would have found a shovel, dug a hole (not easy in Malta) and buried me in it alive or dead. But I am a good boy and wouldn’t dream of using that expression, mind you God is not off limits although Mary is: she was a woman.
