Thanks Naresh for the question.In regard to delinking of your Aadhaar from PAN, as of now, no way.PAN is a ten-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department under the provisions of the Income-Tax Act, 1961. Section 139A of the Act, along with Rule 114 in the Income Tax Rules, mandates the possession of the Permanent Account Number for Indians above the age of 18. PAN is supposed to be a unique number and two individuals or entities can not hold the same number. Further, the income tax rules also do not allow the same individual to hold two or more different numbers.If you have more than one PAN Card, it is punishable under IT Act, 1961. Besides, a penalty of Rs. 10,000 is liable to be imposed under section 272B of the said Act. In normal occasion, it may happen in case one applies for the PAN card but it gets delayed, the indiviudal re-applies and ends up receiving two PAN cards with different numebrs. Such incidents are also punishable on the same line, if you don’t surrender the additional PAN Card forthwith.Here is the process of surrendering the additional PAN Card.To surrender the additional PAN card(s) carrying different numbers, you can either go online or submit the form offline.
