They're a headache to the opposition!At lower levels, there can't be much of this overrepresentation, because everyone gets to play.As the level of competitiveness increases, left handers' advantages over the majority (right handers) start taking effect, and they begin to shine a little more than right handers with the same attributes.As bowlers, especially quick bowlers, the perennial angle across the right handed batsmen while bowling over the stumps is an advantage that never deserts them. The round the stumps edge of the crease far shoulder release gives them the crucial few degrees to really bother right handers.In theory, right handed bowlers bowling round the stumps to right handers should have even more of an advantage to get that angle across right handers but they simply don't bowl it enough.While batting, left handers are a nuisance to bowlers used to bowling most of the time to right handed batsmen. They can throw the bowlers off their lines if they are rotating strike, and take advantage. They also have the advantage of having faced a lot of right handed bowlers, and the lack of discomfort against lefty quicks' angles in the opposition.Fielding at point to a right handed batsman is a great advantage to a left handed fielder and thrower. The ball cut to his left travels much faster as the batsman is using the pace of the bowler as well, compared to the one going to his right, which has to be powered by the batsman. So a left handed point fielder who is able to cut that fast cut and throw with the same arm is a definitive threat. This also means this fielder can be positioned squarer, knowing fully well that he will reach the ball quicker to the left, being his natural side.Not much is spoken about this, but I think a left handed wicketkeeeper has the added advantage of extra coverage to his left, for a right handed batsman. Since wicket keepers stand to the offside by default, the left hand being closer to the wicket might give them a split second extra for stumping, and of course when they have to go down the leg to gather, that's a no brainer.

Sand Storm/Desert Storm in Sharjah, 1997-98 Coca-Cola CupThe tournament is best known for Sachin Tendulkar's back to back centuries against Australia (popularly known as 'Desert Storm') - the first helped India qualify for the final based on a better Net Run Rate and the second, in the finals which was played on Tendulkars 25th birthday helped India beat Australia to win the tournament. In lighter vein, Australian bowler Shane Warne claimed that he had "nightmares" at the thought of bowling to Tendulkar after being dominated by him in the tournament.Tendulkar is credited for single-handedly winning the tournament for India. The last league match, where India played Australia needing to finish with a win or a better Net Run Rate than New Zealand to qualify for the finals was interrupted by a sand storm.India had two targets two chase: 285 to beat the Aussies and 254 to qualify for the final on run-rate ahead of New Zealand. A dust storm wreaked havoc and shortened India's innings - as well as making seeing difficult - but Tendulkar was in a zone and played the innings of his life to guide his team into the final, if not past Australia's total. “It was easily the most brilliant and destructive knock I have ever seen from Sachin. He was like a man possessed,” V.V.S.
