TL:DR: The missions stay in limbo.Almost nothing happens without the Dragonborn being around in Skyrim. It’s a game mechanic — you are the player and you experience everything. If things happen off-screen, then they're scripted.The Civil War never ends, and no major assaults are made. The Dragon Crisis never happens, because Alduin is patiently waiting for the LDB to come around. Tyranny of the Sun is never completed, because both Harkon, Isran AND Vyrthur is waiting for the LDB to free Serana. This is true of all other questlines.Kodiak never dies or retrieves any of the Wuuthrad fragments until LDB comes (though the Companions still wander around).Mercer Frey never does anything about Goldenglow, and Karliah never does anything.The excavation to Saarthal never happens, Eye of Magnus not found, because LDB didn't go to the College.Amaund Motierre never contacts the Dark Brotherhood.The Blades are never reformed.Now that I think of it, the best way to keep Skyrim safe is to do the Civil War questline and nothing else… Dragons don't even attack without LDB around. I went to Eugene Lang College at the New School for my undergrad degree. It was good for me because it's a seminar school, small groups of students did the reading and taught one another in a class conducted by a teacher. I learned how to give and take criticism properly, be a good writer and speak to groups. It's a great place if you are a free thinker, unique and conscious of social problems. It's not great if you want to take lectures and get a math or science degree.

18 years old, newly graduated from high school. Decided I was going to start college early and take 6 credits over the summer session. My friends and I rented a house down the shore for a week. Being 18 years old I didn’t really pay attention and thought it was the week after school ended. It wasn’t. It was the week of final exams so I had to drive 3 hours to school twice during the week. We were drinking pretty heavy at the time being 18 and away with friends.I left one morning at 4:00 for an 8:00 final, pretty drunk. I’m driving up the Garden State Parkway going about 80 in a 55 when I see the flashing lights behind me. Shiiiittttt!!! I pull over, opened my tin of Kodiak and put a giant dip in my mouth. State trooper approaches my car, we go through the whole license/reg/insurance thing. Then he says I smell like alcohol and asks if I was drinking. I tell him I had 1 or 2 beers but what he’s smelling is dry beer on my clothes. We then have a discussion about beer bongs (funnels) and once down to just foam how people would blow into it so the foam shoots out at surrounding people. He was familiar with the concept thank God. Next, why is your speech slurred? Uh oh. “Sir, I have a giant dip in my mouth and it’s hard to talk with it in.” Instead of asking me to remove it he started reminiscing about high school and college baseball and how he used to use dip. His teammates made fun of him because he used the mint flavored dip. I told him that’s what I had in my mouth and offered him some. He took a big pinch, gave me a warning for speeding, wished me good luck on my final and suggested I shower and change before class if I could because I smelled. Then he drove away and left my drunk ass to fend for myself.It was a simpler time. Not saying a better time, just simpler. I’d never consider driving drunk now and can count the number of times I drink in a year on one hand.Got an A on my final. 😜
