I think there are too many factors at play to determine things yet.Right now I’d place slightly better odds on Trump winning. Why?The economy is recovering well. The market is strong and things look good. Strong economies tend to re-elect Presidents.Had COVID not happened I’d place 100% odds on Trump winning for this factor alone. The economy is not yet back to full pre-COVID strength but things have certainly improved.The most recent protests have turned many suburbanites against the Democrats. The protests are harming Democrats in the polls. This is well known among strategists and has been the reason behind the recent string of condemnations of the riots from the left.People usually say Trump won’t win because the polls show him losingHere’s the problem with that.The polls showed Clinton winning in 2016Now when I say this I hear the same response- “Clinton won the popular vote so the polls were actually right”.The problem here is the polls were wrong on the local and federal level. Yes, Clinton got more overall votes but states she was supposed to win she lost.So I hear constantly that Biden is up 5 points in this state and 4 points in that state. Yet a day or two before the electionClinton was up 4–5 points in PennsylvaniaClinton was up 7 points in WisconsinClinton was up 5 points in MichiganClinton was tied with Trump in North Carolina and FloridaClinton lost all these states.This isn’t polling data from 2 weeks before the election- its data from the day before the election.So when you tell me that Biden is up 5 points in Wisconsin it means NOTHING to me. I can’t speak for all other countries, but in Canada, there is only one major city with each name. There is only one Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton in Canada - although they may have namesakes in other countries.You could give the province name but it is a bit redundant for the bigger cities. However, it’s prudent to give the province name for smaller cities because they may not be unique, and if you say, “London, Ontario” people will know it’s not London, England.The US has numerous cities with the same name, so giving the state name is prudent. In the US there are 31 cities named Franklin, 29 named Clinton, 29 named Washington, 28 named Arlington, etc. etc. If you don’t give the state name you might confuse it with a city in a different state.I’ve been in both Boulder, Colorado, and Boulder Utah. There are also 6 other cities in the US named Boulder:Boulder, IdahoBoulder, IllinoisBoulder, MontanaBoulder, VirginiaBoulder, West VirginiaBoulder, WyomingThere is also a Boulder, Western Australia, but it is the only Boulder in Australia, so you don’t really need to give the state name.If you are going to Portland, make sure you know if it is Portland, Maine, the largest city in Maine, or Portland, Oregon, the largest city in the world named Portland, or one of the following:Portland, ArkansasPortland, Colorado (2)Portland, ConnecticutPortland, GeorgiaPortland, IllinoisPortland, IndianaPortland, KansasPortland, KentuckyPortland, MissouriPortland, New YorkPortland, North DakotaPortland, OhioPortland, PennsylvaniaPortland, TennesseePortland, TexasPortland, Wisconsin (3)There are two cities in Colorado and three in Wisconsin named Portland, so check your postal code before mailing a letter there.Australia also has two towns named Portland, one in Victoria and one in New South Wales, so they may have messed up there.People occasionally fly from London, England to Sydney, Nova Scotia when they really wanted to go to Sydney, Australia, so you do have to check the country name when you find an unexpectedly low price on air fares. They were both named after Queen Victoria.
