PDF Editor FAQ

How can Americans fully trust police officers when the greatest misuse of justice was carried out on Steven Avery?

At the age of 19, Avery committed burglary. At the age of 20, he doused his cat in gasoline and encouraged two friends to throw it - alive - onto a bonfire.Three years later, he forced his female cousin’s car off the road and pointed a gun at her. He figured this was okay, because the gun wasn’t loaded (at least, according to him), and anyway, she had it coming, in his opinion. On October 31, 2005, Theresa Halbach went to Avery’s Salvage Yard to meet him for a business appointment. She was never seen again. Her vehicle was found partially hidden in the salvage yard, and investigator’s found bloodstains matching Avery’s DNA inside it. Later, charred fragments of Halbach’s bones were found on Avery’s property.Nah, I’m not gonna lose any sleep over Steven Avery.

If you parted out a brand new car and sold every piece for market value, how close would you get to the MSRP?

I did this with motorcycles for years. I owned a motorcycle salvage yard. I started out buying late model wrecked sportbikes a parting them out. I got so many inquiries for parts that don't survive a crash I bought a brand new gsxr1000 and disassembled it and sold the parts. In 2003 a new 2002 gsxr1000 was $8500, they had a list of $10,300. I grossed $26,000 on the first one by selling the parts. Average was $22,000 depending on the color scheme. It was a gamble.. They were sold as used parts but were brand new. Suzuki shut me down and refused to sell me a new motorcycle. The sum of all parts exceeded the whole. I tried it with kawasaki and Honda but didn't have as much success. I'm assuming the Gixxer 1000 was the most crashed bike back then. Back in 03 I could get $4500 for the complete set of bodywork. $4500 for the complete motor. Now that all my money is back the other stuff was all profit the wheels switches seat pegs you name it theres a lot of parts on a motorcycle.

What are a few things salvage yard employees won't tell you?

Unfortunately, my interactions as a whole are that by-and-large they are an unscrupulous bunch that would steal the pennies off a dead man's eyes. They tend to underprice the cost of what they bring in and then sell it at a large profit on the other end.I personally know of someone who put this to the challenge. It took place at a salvage yard somewhere in Louisiana. He knew for a fact that the copper he brought in weighed 110 pounds but only scaled out at 80 pounds at the salvage yard. When he, giving the scrap yard the benefit of the doubt, questioned the weight, he was confronted by the manager who immediately went on the defensive. When he asked for verification of the copper’s weight, the manager stepped out from behind the counter and all but physically threw this person out.So, lesson learned…these individuals tend to be unscrupulous and much like the butcher with his finger on the scale will, given the opportunity, steal from their customers. The bottom line…caveat vendor.
