What is the purpose of a military gas chamber that soldiers do training in if we don't use chemical weapons in war?The purpose is not to teach soldiers how to use chemical weapons. You wouldn’t use a gas chamber for that, you’d use the delivery mechanism, which doesn’t require much training. You launch a chemical mortar the same as a regular mortar (though likely in protective gear). Likewise for chemical artillery rounds.The gas chamber is used as a confidence test so that soldiers trust their equipment when defending against a chemical threat. While chemical weapons are widely banned, that hasn’t stopped a few unscrupulous countries or non-state actors from developing (and using) them.You enter the chamber with the gas mask on. You go through various motions so that you know that the seal won’t break on a properly-fitted mask. Then you take off the mask while holding your breath and closing your eyes, then put the mask back on. That shows that you can clear a mask and use it even if there’s already a chemical agent in the air. Finally, you take off the mask and open your eyes and breathe. This is not to toughen you to tear gas or anything like that, it’s just to prove to you that the mask was working but now all of a sudden you’re sucking.

No more cleaning the chamber of your M16/M4 for a half hour or more with q-tips or scraper tools just to be rejected at the armory window because Corporal Baby Hands picked the chamber and found a tiny smudge of carbon. No more broken q-tips or chipped fingernails. No more time wasted trying to find carbon residue stuck at that weird-ass angle. Just sit down, take the bolt out of the receiver, and spin one of these around inside the chamber a few times. Job done.When I discovered these it was as if Moses came down from Sinai with the Commandments, life was forever changed. They’re a great way to bargain too, dudes will do almost anything to use your chamber cleaners. (Except buy their own damn cleaners.)I really can’t recommend them enough, not the “best” tool available to an infantryman, at least as most would think of it, but star cleaners make life much less frustrating and annoying.
