What are the biggest misconceptions about Japan and Japanese culture?

Biggest? Why only the biggest? I have had so many misconceptions to deal with while interacting with foreigners including on Quora. This would be a perfect opportunity for me to express my own native Japanese perspectives on some of the well distributed ideas regarding our country.Table of contentsJapanese trains are always on time. Most Japanese people are niceJapanese think only Japan has four seasons.Japanese people think they are not Asians.Japan is a very safe country. If you go to a Japanese High School, you can date and become happy forever like in Anime. In Tokyo, there are vending machines which sells underpants of High School Girls.Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Are you ready? Here we go!Japanese trains are always on time.Always? Hmm, I’ve never seen a single day where the infamous Chuo line was on time. Not to mention that I would even care since they come once every two minutes. The punctuality of Japanese public transportation has been discussed frequently in foreign nations however, what they are often not aware of is the fact that such claims are something from the past. Punctuality of train systems, particularly in Tokyo has deteriorated significantly for the past two decades. This is often the result of extensive connection service with other train lines within the region. The best example would be the Tokyu Toyoko Line. Opened in the 1920s, the 24km train line which connects Tokyo and Yokohama carries one million people back and forth every single day. In the 1960s, the simple train line which went back and forth from Shibuya to Yokohama got a new destination by sharing lines with a subway line. By 2014, the network has grown to include 4 subway lines, 5 private overground lines, two lines of their own, and one Tourist line.Hence any single unrelated issue from different lines on the other side of the country now affects the punctuality of the train line.Hence, when you're in a rush, make sure you go to your train station ten minutes early, especially if you are changing trains multiple times. You will thank me for that. Also dont forget about the frequent train jumpers who jump into trains to commit suicide. They are the worst. Most Japanese people are niceWe are professionals at acting nice. Since childhood, we receive intensive training on how to be nice to others, especially during our teenage years. Politeness skills is like trunks for elephants. It is required to survive. People who lack such skills would experience the force of natural selection. Hence, we seldom show our real emotions. In fact, when the Japanese have started showing you their real emotion in public, you should know that you have massively fu*ked something up. (I learned this in the hard way)Japanese are polite but not necessary nice.I remember when I was studying in America I was calling the Japanese bank since my credit card was stolen. The head of the dorm suggested me to contact the credit card company and have them mail it to me.Sir, I have lost my credit card and have no money what so ever. Can you help?Operator: Okay. In that case, please come to the bank immediately with your ID. We will give you the new card in person with your valid identification.Sir, unfortunately, I am currently in California, not Tokyo. I physically cannot take the card.Operator: Okay, then please cancel your activity abroad immediately and see our staff in Tokyo as soon as possible.Sir, I do not even have the money to purchase ticket back to Tokyo. Can you mail the new card to this address?Operator: That would be the violation of the company guideline. Please come to the our office in person.Okay, sir, then can I have my mother take the card for me? She has my valid ID with legal documents proving that she is my parent.Operator: I am sorry, you are the only one who we can give you your new card. Then, what the fuck can I do!?!?! This is an emergency. I fucking have no money to go back to Tokyo what so fucking ever!!!!!Operator: In that case, please contact to the Japanese Embassy. Thank you.It was the most cold blooded polite person ever to talk. The Americans are often rude, but they have hearts. Who I called acted like a robot. It made me feel very lonely.Japanese think only Japan has four seasons.Oh, come on! I see these statements all over the internet including Quora. Is this a joke of some sort? Sure, many of us still thinks Russia (and Putin) is Communist, all Americans have guns and shoot anyone suspicious, all foreign lands are dangerous, and Scotland are Englishman as well (and are obsessed with teas). However I have never met or heard of anyone who holds such a ridiculous view anywhere. I mean, simple 6th grade science can debunk such myth (If it were to exist, that is). We are not that comically unintelligent.Japanese people think they are not Asians. Here is another common myth which frequently surface out online. This may come from the Meiji era policy 脱亜入欧 (Exit Asia Enter Europe). However, such ideas are outdated, especially after the cold war when the term East vs West became less relevant. However, we dont use the term Asia frequently in the first place. In school we learn there are six continents in the world.North AmericaSouth AmericaAntarcticaAfricaEurasiaAustraliaStrangely, in maps published in Europe and Americas, there is a peculiar borderline passing through the Former Soviet Union and Turkey.Like thisWhat is this!?Japan is a very safe country.Maybe. Relative to places like the United States or South Africa.I am going to say relatively because, well, I used to think like you until I learned it in the hard way. Also minor crimes such as theft and groping are quite common. Young female individuals should be extra careful.Friend: Officer, my bike was stolen! Someone broke the chain from where I parked!Cop: Nay, they happen often here. Dont get bothered by it.Friend: I have the Security Registration number hereCop: Dude, it doesn't matter. It wont come back. I think you should better buy a new one. They aren’t expensive anymore.—One day in OsakaIf you go to a Japanese High School, you can date and become happy forever like in Anime.Oh shit. Did you imagine that as a high school life in Japan?? Ahahhahaha! Enjoy the taste of reality! If you were a high school student in Japan and had a girlfriend and especially so had a successful career after that, you'll be instantly slaughtered by angry envious mobsters. There is a reason why high school dating is such a major theme in Japanese entertainment industry. Why would anyone consume something which they already have? Huh? Huuuuuuuh????There are two types of teenagers in Japan, those who would be successful, and those who would not. Being a successful teenager means to go to a high profile university via entrance exams. Such success requires a specific environment, at least to the general public. If you want to succeed, have a stable job in the future, or your parents want you to be that way, you will be locked into a fierce competition between other teenagers. No time for dating. Sorry. In fact, you wouldn't have any options in the first place. Frequently, you would be locked into your study room by your parents to finish homework for the cram school you attend every day from 5pm to 10 pm. Also, don’t forget your school work as well! In fact, many schools would do whatever means to keep you on track. You likely need permission from your teacher to go to anywhere other than school or home even after the classes are over. Many parents install GPS on the teens phone to keep track of them. Dating with a girl?? Out of question!!In fact, most teenage dating happens in rural areas among people who don’t have plans to have a high profile careers as they have stable income from farming and fishing. Also, don’t forget the social obsession against teenage romance. If you're caught dating as a teenager, you'll get unwanted attention from noisy grown ups who would follow you like pikmins. In Tokyo, there are vending machines which sales underpants of High School Girls.Sigh* What the Fu*k!? I mean, Whaaat tha Foooooh!!!This claim has been around the internet all over the place, even being cited by high profile non-comedic opinion makers. No. I have never seen anything like that, even in the most fishy places in Tokyo like Akihabara, nor have heard any claims of such being reported. No one in Japan are aware of such thing nor are talking about it, even the most savage netizens such as 2channel users. Here are the responses from them[1]1:風吹けば名無し@\(^o^)/: 2017/06/27(火)ええんか?(Thats even okay?)6:風吹けば名無し@\(^o^)/: 2017/06/27(火)こマ?(What!? True?)3:風吹けば名無し@\(^o^)/: 2017/06/27(火)よく知ってるな(How do you know that?)4:風吹けば名無し@\(^o^)/: 2017/06/27(火)どこに売ってるんだよ教えてくれ(Where do they sell those? Tell me)*Edited and Translated by myselfEven the 2 chan users, who are professionals at underground industries were not aware of such thing which pretty much proves such thing does not exist in the first place.Legally speaking, public display of obscene materials are strictly prohibited in Tokyo. Such vending machines surely would be illegal. So, no. No high school panties. Don’t be disappointed if you cannot find those after you exit Narita or Haneda. I warned you! (We don’t even need people with such intentions to come to Japan in the first place)But don’t fret. We do have quite a lot of other awesome vending machines around the town so enjoy those instead.Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world.Yes, Japan has a relatively high suicide rate compared to the world average. Yet, the statement “one of the highest” is actually an overstatement.According to the WHO, the suicide rate in Japan (per 100k people) is 15.4, while the world average is 10.7. It is relatively high if you think that every two suicides in the world, there are three in Japan. However, if you compare with other nations, things get complicated. For example, the United States scores around 12.6 which is only 2.8 points lower then Japan. South Korea scores over 24 while Sri Lanka, almost 35. Many former Communist countries in Eastern Europe and the USSR ranks much higher then Japan. Therefore Japan does not have one of the highest suicide rates in the world.Yet, why do we associate Japan with Suicide so much? There is no definite answer to this as no one has studied it, however, guesses can be made. One reason could be the fact that our tradition of Seppuku and Kamikaze being widely known throughout the world. People seem to associate Japan with Seppuku and Kamikaze quite commonly. And yes, Kamikaze and Seppuku are sometimes seen in a positive note in everyday life in Japan, but most of us consider such tradition as extreme and outdated.Another reason could be the notoriously high suicide rates among the youths.Recent studies show that Japan has the highest suicide rates among the youths since the 2000s. Tragedy among the youths often gets closed up internationally and such news frequently appear in world news headlines such as BBC and CNN even if they are covered very little in Japan.Footnotes[1] 【画像あり】人気海外ドラマ「東京じゃJKのパンツが自販機で売ってる」 : キニ速

Why is the Korean government postponing Jin’s enlistment and no one else’s? That’s not fair.

I don’t think regular footballers will go and complain the footballers from the winning team when those will get exemptions. The thing is BTS is reaching to the point that their career achievements and their contributions to South Korean culture and economy are very hard to ignore at this point. They’re not rookie or regular band anymore. It reached to the point that Korean government and their citizens get headache related to their enlistments. Before that, they didn’t get much headache or no headache at all to enlist K-Pop singers or pop singers or even actors in the military. There’re many entertainment companies would like to use BTS as an excuse to get their idols and actors exempt from enlistments too.BTS is the best shot. They’re the one started topping Billboard album chart and even single chart. They’re the first K-Pop act to fill stadium size concerts around the world. Even for US artists, it’s hard to fill. They all know that BTS impact is much more than the Olympics game they hosted in South Korea. Before that, South Korea was just another country. Now, learning Korean language is more popular. Many people crazy for BTS and stadium full of people singing in Korean. It boasted a lot of Koreans ego. I mean they’re proud. You know Korean is not mainstream language and not even main languages such as English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Arabic.May be they would be happy to enlist 2015 BTS or even 2017 BTS. But, 2018 BTS is a little bit risky to enlist. 2019 BTS is more. 2020 BTS … well it’s very shocked to think about BTS enlistment.Their revenue is getting higher and higher. Even during pandemic and the tours are being cancelled, the revenue didn’t go down.I personally don’t want them to enlist at the moment. They can create many more great music.Even if they have to enlist in the near future, I just want them to enlist for a short period for their own experience. They don’t need to enlist in the military to serve for their country. They’ve already did more than enough for their country. Many K-Pop fans would like BTS to go or join the military. They think that this will create opportunities for their supporting idols or others K-Pop groups. What I can say is nobody is blocking anything. Everyone gets a chance to compete in the market. BTS, who has only 200 or 2,000 fans made their way up by themselves.Even, a group which started with a handful of fans can make it, they should channel the inspiration. I’m not saying “copy” them or copy their strategy. But, find their own way.If BTS think that famous people or groups are blocking their way, I think we need to remove or enlist Taylor Swift, Drake, Cardi B and a bunch of US artists to enlist first before BTS release the album. If that’s the mindset, they will never ever chart no.1 on the chart. Instead, they just have their own stadium concerts without getting recognition of Grammy or general public or removing/enlisting any US artists. They write their own story. And after that they reach to the point that it’s hard to ignore by accredited institutions.People from entertainment field need lots of lucks and charisma. The same go for athletes. Not every football team will win World Cup and not every footballer will receive World Cup.I think it’s fair. They’re better focusing in arts and music to compete or connect with western singers/artists than breaking up the groups or put into hiatus especially they’re in their prime stage. If they’ll still need to fulfill their duty as citizen as enlistment, the loss due to enlistment is far greater than the country benefits from their enlistment. So, I like the idea of postponement and after that reduced and special programme or something like that.Special people need special treatment. You cannot ask President to take a bus by himself because he’s just another citizen. He needs to be provided security personals and secret agents.Just regular footballer is not the same as footballers from highest paid team. The reason you think it’s not fair is you think they’re the same as other K-Pop idols/singers.In reality, it’s not. They not only hit no.1 albums in US, their albums charted no.1 in Canada, UK etc.And they’re the best selling artists in 2020 surpassing American singers/artists.When did album from South Korea dominate global market before? They’re in Korean and most of Koreans haven’t dreamed about their Korean album is no.1 or even top 10 globally. This question sounds like removing the kid who gets 100 out of class, next kid whoever gets 90 or 80 will become top of the class. In reality is the kid who gets that 100 marks is strong enough to compete with other kids from other classes or other schools.Btw, the reason I like them is their lyrics have philosophical and psychological stuffs and genre bending music style is something different from western songs. Moreover, they seem to be sincere and speak from their hearts.Conclusion:2014 BTS - good to go … just rookies2015 BTS - still good to enlist2016 BTS - definitely2017 BTS - popular band but still good to enlist2018 BTS - popularity is insane a bit2019 BTS - seriously need to think about their enlistment2020 BTS - their enlistment is not affordable by SK government or general public or their company or those who love their music and many peopleThey’re the kind of band fill the people in stadium and many of US stadiums need them honestly.BTS is not just music and concerts, there’s many other type of contents selling such as movies, documentary series. Since, their name/brand reaches many people so does the things they are featuring in. Many kind of professions are depending on the production and creation of BTS related products. They have fans from every corner and every walks of lives. From famous writers to NASA scientist to nurses and doctors to many. Not just teenagers but many famous and ordinary people like to listen them.During the BLM movement, they are the only artists from South Korea to get pushed to speak up.Due to their unexpected success and influences, Korean Government get headache and they need to reconsider their rule. One thing is everyone needs to serve in the military/public service (though there’re a few exceptions exists such as award winning athletes in international matches, classical musicians etc.)The other is BTS serving in military/public service doesn’t make any difference in military or public service area but just cut off the revenues coming from contents and their growing influences in western music landscape and so on.SK Government and their citizens will decide whatever road they want to go down.Personally, I think they’re needed to bind the people across the world and break the barriers and stereotypes through their music. They also bring new things on the table. Genre bending music with choreography and cross-over of music, arts, literature and psychology stuffs, storyline and parallel universe theme etc.(I have to add something though. Many ARMYs accept South Korea's decision theoretically. In reality, I don’t think that will happen. Almost two years ago, BTS went to Grammy Awards show for the first time and ARMYs were checking from carpet to food to their seat neighbors. After background digging was done, they found one trustworthy person and sent thousand and thousand of messages to her to take care of BTS. It’s like dropping 5 years old kids at preschool for the first time. After her kind response, they were a bit relieved and acting like found a promising and reliable baby sitter there. That’s them went to Grammys. Can’t imagine if they are sent to military. South Korea gets nuked by North Korea is less possible. Bombarded by ARMYs is more reality in the near future. May be they need to report ARMYs how’s the situation of BTS like everyday. That’s the group they help to grow and snatch many awards from every corner of the world.)(P.S. PS. The first batch of books were sold out in 20 minutes and they had to reprint the books immediately. I’m not advertising the books. :D Just mentioning how music band and their company respond international outcry of not understanding Korean.)

What's your honest opinion on Blackpink?

YG is a genius~Disclaimer: This is not a hate answer towards Blackpink, because I dislike those answers. This is more so an appreciation answer for how intelligent YG and its marketers/managers are.So I have a theory that Blackpink’s entire career was very carefully calculated in order for YGE to profit off of them in an effective but low-effort way, only for them to stop halfway for the sake of preserving the careers of the members.YGE followed a very specific marketing strategy that would only fit with the perfect timing, products, context, and execution, and YGE had all of these factors at their display and used them to their advantage.I’d say one of the most crucial things that make idol music SO different from other industries is their marketing tactics, as they wouldn’t be nearly as effective if they were not dubbed as an “idol”. Blackpink is one of the most prominent examples of this because Blackpink only works as Blackpink because they are Blackpink. It may not sound like it makes sense, but trust me when I say it does.YG followed a specific formula common in marketing:Create a product that fits into your budget, goal, and enterprise imagePinpoint your target audiencePinpoint the appropriate moment into starting to advertise your productBait your target-audience into consuming your productOnce you established your consumers, you put in increasingly minimal improvements over time to continue having a large audience while still not adding much effortOnce this product is at the top in terms of income and revenue, you start to consider other marketing strategies in order for your product to reach different heights.Disclaimer: This wasn’t to dehumanize the Pinks, but all Kpop idols are products to an extent, almost all celebrities are. This marketing strategy usually works for products such as fictional media, technology, or clothing. Apple is a good example of this. JK Rowling is a good example of this. There are many other examples, but I suggest you do your own research on it.So now that we have established the strategy, let’s lay out how YGE perfectly followed the formula:#1 ➯ Create a product that fits into your budget, goal, and enterprise imageBlackpink is this product, and YGE has been preparing a girl-group right after 2ne1 for a long while, with many, many revisions made, such as the group name, number of members, concept, etc.YGE was booming with money, but not so much with revenue, as it was the same year that 2ne1 disbanded and Minzy left and Bom was on a hiatus. 2ne1, one of the top girl-groups in Kpop, was slowly falling apart. YGE must have seen this as a chance for them to revive their previous infinite success by debuting “the prettier version of 2ne1”.This both accomplished their goal AND was within their budget to support. Not to mention how Blackpink perfectly fit YGE’s image of rap and hip-hop-inspired performers.#2 ➯ Pinpoint your target audienceBlackpink stood out because their target audience was not males but young girls, specifically young girls in the West. Blackpink’s change of audience from most girl-bands at the time made them catch the eyes of many. They even went as far as to give the girls this racial ambiguity to them, as Lisa adopts the characteristics of many female American rappers, with the full lips, dark hair, and tomboy energy. She also has a bit of a blaccent when she raps. Rose also has this racial ambiguity to her, as she has this Aussie valley girl vibe to her, which is why she hasn’t dyed her hair back to brown/black in so long.Once YGE found who exactly they wanted to appeal to, they did everything in their power to stick to that demographic, and grow their audience in that specific field, from having 3/4 of the group speak fluent English, have a rebellious concept, something deep within the West’s idea of female empowerment, and make merchandise that appealed mostly to young females.#3 ➯ Pinpoint the appropriate moment into starting to advertise your productAs I wrote in point #1, Blackpink’s debut time was absolutely perfect. They debuted when 2ne1 was finally done with reaching their peak and managed to put in a lot of money for YGE.They were very similar yet were polarizing from 2ne1. Blackpink was, at first, advertised like “the skinnier and prettier version of 2ne1”, showing a difference between them and 2ne1, as their marketing tactics would be similar to that of an Instagram influencer than it was for 2ne1, who was advertised as self-sufficient and empowering women.#4 ➯ Bait your target-audience into consuming your productI think that everyone, even Blinks, can agree YGE uses this part of this specific marketing strategy A LOT with Blackpink. But at the beginning of their careers, Blackpink was releasing a stable amount of music and content. They had a lot of Korean show appearances and were making an adequate amount of music for a girl-group at the time, helping them grow a stable fan-community.#5 ➯ Once you established your consumers, you put in increasingly minimal improvements over time to continue having a large audience while still not adding much effort.Another part of this marketing strategy that YGE uses most frequently is this one, as right after their instant success in late 2016, the girls had a hiatus more than half a year, and since they had a stable fanbase, this had absolutely no effect on their career. In fact, it increased their popularity as fans were more vocal and ecstatic about the comeback since it was the first they received in months. The only small change throughout the years was one comeback with a mini-album and many brand endorsements. These small pieces of content that were baby-fed to Blinks kept them on their toes but also required YGE to put in minimal effort into actually managing the girls. They did the same in 2018. And then in 2019. As for what happens to the Pinks in 2020 completely changes.#6 ➯ Once this product is at the top in terms of income and revenue, you start to consider other marketing strategies in order for your product to reach new heights.Blackpink’s sudden change of marketing strategy disproved those who doubted them and delighted those who supported them. They are currently at their prime, so YGE took this chance to turn the tables and try to expand a bit the careers of the members, such as assigning Jisoo to star in a Kdrama, giving Rose a solo, putting Lisa as a mentor on a famous survivor show, and having Jennie kickstart her new YouTube channel.I find Blackpink’s entire path of their idol life from small appearances and changes to large milestones in their career, to be intricately calculated from YGE, more so than almost any other group in Kpop history, leading to their immense popularity. Blackpink very much lived a self-insert life for a large part of their career. They are extremely controlled, and it becomes a bit evident on certain points they have to keep up their persona to the highest degree possible. Of course, this is the case for the vast majority of groups in the Kpop industry, but it seems a bit to a higher degree when it comes to Blackpink.I remember when Jennie was invited to a Chanel fashion show in Paris and I couldn’t help but notice how awkward she was in the interviews and such, especially since no one was telling her what to say and do. It made me realize that maybe the Pinks are made to be portrayed to the utmost perfection for the general public. They each had their own predetermined archetypes portrayed to make them as marketable to their target demographic as possible, and them being marketed as individuals than a single entity. I might elaborate on this a bit more when I want to edit this answer in the future.Edit: I thought I could elaborate a bit more on Blackpink’s marketing strategy and why it works so well with the girlsKpop is known for marketing their groups as a single entity than independently, leading to the group members having many interactions, sub-units, ships, etc. in order to feed content to their fanbase. But Blackpink is different. They are a group of girls… but they are marketed as individuals. They each have a completely different persona, leading to them each developing their own fanbases within that group (eg. Lisa having Lillies and Jennie having Fandeukies). This is exactly why Blackpink has so many solo-stans compared to other groups. The girls also live very self-insert lives, as their personas are based on common archetypes found in the media of young girls, eg. Winx Club, Bratz, Sailor Moon, etc. Blackpink ARE the Y/N.They are easy to self-insert because a lot of the content they provide is based more on 2D personality types than full-blown personalities with different sides and depth. This quote is from I-Spy, a K-Youtuber from a video of hers relating to Blackpink. I recommend checking out her channel:The reason why this group is so successful is that they aren’t necessarily selling music or personality. They are selling a fantasy. Most promotions of the girls are primarily done individually. The Pinks are hardly promoted together through their Instagram pages or conquering of the fashion industry. Now onto their individual archetypes that are reinforced on the girls.Jisoo is the girl-next-door archetype, with her down-to-earth and bubbly personality/visuals. She is the magnet for the Korean general public, and while many may claim that Jisoo provides nothing for the group, it is clear why she was added.YGE was a genius for adding someone like her to the group, giving her similar energy to other sweet Korean IT girls, like IU, Bae Suzy, and Irene. She’s the last popular because Blackpink is more so marketed towards the West, and Westerners aren’t appealed to personalities like Jisoo.Rose is the outcast indie girl, with a true passion for music, and that’s exactly how she’s advertised, too. She’s creative and artistic, with some minor hints of the girl-next-door character, but not enough to actually label her like that. She has that beach-blonde vibe to her, almost like those LA girls. She reminds me of those Hollywood highschool protagonists a bit in musicals, and those who generally have an interest in something like music.Jennie is quite obviously the wealthy, rich girl archetype, a bit like the mean girls in highschool films, such as icons like Regina George, Cheryl Blossom, and the Heathers. Her persona is easily the most timeless in the group and has been iconic since the early 20th Century. She has that expensive vibe to her, the expensive trips to Paris, designer outfits, and her high-luxury lifestyle in general. Her “scandals”, in fact, heavily fit her archetype, which is why she still has an extremely stable fanbase for it.But the BIGGEST part of Jennie’s persona is definitely her fashion. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of Jennie’s style and do find it a bit overhyped by many as she just follows trends. I don’t find it fair to compare her to someone like G-Dragon, who completely went against fashion ideas at the moment. But BECAUSE YGE advertises her as this high-end fashionista trend-setter, many will buy into that idea (and that is completely fine, in fact, this specific part of her persona fits her well).Lisa is the classic underdog type. While many may say Jennie is the most favored, I heavily disagree. It’s clear that Lisa is the most favored, but it isn’t as obvious because it would completely ruin her persona if it was evident. She also gives off this sense of mystery, such as only posting on her IG her professional life and almost never leaving a caption except “#ad”.She has a fashion style that completely rejects common fashion trends but she isn’t classified as the fashionista, so many may overlook it but it is processed without even realizing it.This is why Lisa is usually given the “ugliest” outfit. She is just given the outfit that contrasts the most with the other members. Not to mention her more rebellious and at some points, a masculine style she has compared to the other girls.I feel like she is the “main character” of Blackpink, which is why she receives so many more promotions than the rest of the members. Many may not have realized this because this idea is only subconsciously processed.A lot of this also heavily has to do with psychology. At Blackpink’s launch event, YG explicitly said that Blackpink was made and put together to fight female stereotypes, but at the same time, consistently markets them as girls who are rich, skinny, attractive, models, fit the beauty standards, and mostly sing about boys, haters, and how rich/successful they are.Because Blackpink called themselves the revolution, we are led to completely believe the latter because of how we, as a society, view female empowerment. We view it as being rebellious and tomboy and badass, when it can come in many forms. But once YG noticed this was not going to last forever, they switched it up in 2020 to give them more music and opportunities to show both their performance and personality. but, even then, it still feels awfully limited and controlled. Please don’t take this as an attack towards Blackpink, this is just what I’ve personally noticed about them… and also what drove me away from fully stanning them. While I listen to a few songs here and there, they give off this Sims vibe that I don’t really find appealing. I don’t want to insert myself into a group, but I want to learn about them, their struggles, their flaws, their passions, their charisma, etc. They’re just not my taste, and that’s fine.Hope you enjoyed!!~what we have is a dreamer~
