What was the craziest thing a mechanic said about your car?

Sweetie… Honey Pie… both your fuel injection system and carburetor need service.I was an engineering college student back in my home town in NE Florida for the summer, and I took my car to the shop for an oil change. I checked the tranny and brake fluid before I left home, and it was clear that both were clean and in good shape. I get to the shop, ask for the oil change and standard free inspection, and politely decline their current specials for brake and transmission flushes. I sit and wait the 20 min or so, and then the slimiest guy I’ve ever come across fetches me from the waiting room with “Erin, Sweetie? Come here Sugar, I want to show you some things on your car, Honey Pie.” He was covered in a malodorous mix of oil and grease of both human and automotive origins, smelled like he had rolled in an ashtray, and literally couldn’t say 5 words to me without interjecting some sugary pet name. He proceeded to pull out my car’s brake and tranny dip sticks to demonstrate to this woman, who he’d pegged as a cute little naive co-ed ready to be ripped off, just how dirty they were…. by rubbing the fluid between his filthy fingers. I looked him in the eye and told him, “Wow, it sure is hard to tell how clean those are on your greasy hands, but they looked great on a clean towel back at home.” He backpedalled a bit, called me a few more names, and then pulled out a checklist supposedly outlining the service needs of my car based on the inspection. He runs down the list through the usual maintenance items like brakes, chassis lube, etc, and then he gets to the engine. “Sweetie… Honey Pie… both your fuel injectors and carb need service. We can fix those for you today, Baby Girl.” I was so dumbstruck by the blatant attempt to rip me off that I couldn’t find any words to respond. (For anyone confused…. fuel injector technology replaced carburetors… you absolutely won’t find both in the same car.) I felt lame after the fact, but I ended up just paying for the oil change and leaving as fast as I could. I still wonder just how many customers he managed to con with his dishonesty.

My husband and I are going to start living full-time in an RV. What are some things we will need to do daily, monthly, semi-annually, and annually?

Great question! There are all sorts of things you need to do before you go full-time, like set up mail services, medical coverage, Internet, phone, insurance, dealing with possessions, etc. There are lots of places on the Internet where checklists are provided. Most deal with getting reading to head out and getting settled each day. Some deal with buying the RV. Some are supplies you need to bring. Here are some lists:Need An RV Checklist?... What is the maintenance cost of a KTM RC 390 and a CBR 250R after the free servicing ends?

The KTMs are one of the most easy to maintain motorcycles i have used and owned. I find the spares to be reasonably priced and readily available off the shelf. The best part about the KTMs is that the service interval is at 7,500 kms which converts to fewer visits to the Service Center.I try to get in touch with the service center in advance to check the availability of spares and so far, this has been working well for me.For a KTM 390, the major service - read every 15,000kms, should look like this.Chain Clean and Chain Lube – Generally, I do it myself every 500–600kms.Engine Coolant – Bleed and Replace. (Rs. 450 + labor).Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter – Bleed and Replace, Clean Oil Screen. (Motul 7100 Rs.1100 + Rs. 70).Spark Plug – Replace (Rs. 180).Inline Fuel Filter Element – Replace(Rs.90).Battery – Check/Charge if required.Air Filter Element – Replace, Clean the air filter box. (Rs. 250)Brake Fluid Lines - Bleed and Replace.Brake Liner Pads – Check – Replace if necessary. (Should last the next 5000km). (Rs.200–250 Each)Suspension – Front – if OIL LEAKAGE – Replace Suspension Oil, Oil Seals. ((Rs.400 each + Fork Oil + Labor~Rs.500)Fork Legs – Clean Dust Boots.Handle Bearing – Check - Adjust.Swing Arm Bearing – Adjust.Rear Shock Absorber – Clean, adjust if requiredCheck Chain Tension & Sprockets. (Rs. 1800 approx if replace)Check All hoses (Cooling, bleeder, drainage) for cracking, leaks, routing without sharp bends.Check radiator Fan is functioning properly. All Chasis Bolts and Nuts – Tighten.Throttle Cable, Clutch cable, check, adjust free play, replace if required. (Rs. 150–250 Each)Reset the service reminder.Set the clock if reset during battery maintenance. This service, if there is no work on forks or Brake pad replacement, or chain sprocket replacement, should be well within Rs. 2,500.The fork seal work would set you back by about 1,800 Rs, Brake Pads by about 800 Rs, The brake discs if need replacement is about 1,700 Rs., Chain sprockets would be about 1,800 Rs.That said, my brake pads lasted about20,00kms because of the excellent engine braking we have. The chain and sprocket set lasted about 25,000 kms because of the regular maintenance. And I am fortunate enough to still run on my stock brake discs till now. The bike has clocked almost 30,000kms till now.A minor service, read every 7,500 kms should look like thisChain Clean and Chain Lube – Generally, I do it myself every 500–600kms.Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter – Bleed and Replace, Clean Oil Screen.Spark Plug – Clean & Adjust.Inline Fuel Filter Element – Inspect - Replace if required.Battery – Check/Charge if required.Air Filter Element – Clean, Clean the air filter box.Brake Liner Pads – Check – Replace if necessary. (Should last the next 5,000km).Fork Legs – Clean Dust Boots.Handle Bearing – Check - Adjust.Swing Arm Bearing – Adjust.Adjust Chain Tension, lubricate.Check All hoses (Cooling, bleeder, drainage) for cracking, leaks, routing without sharp bends.Check radiator Fan is functioning properly. All Chassis Bolts and Nuts – Tighten.Throttle Cable, Clutch cable, check, adjust free play, replace if required.Inspect the stator coil and rectifier for correct operation & ensure battery charging voltage is correct.Reset the service reminder.Set the clock if reset during battery maintenance. This service, should set you back by about 1,700 Rs.That being said, the maximum I have spent on a single service with a 390 is Rs.6,500 when I had work to be done on the fork and had to replace the handle bearing in the same service.Altogether, I would say that the 390s are very affordable machines to operate and maintain. Also, this figure might vary from rider to rider based on the type of use. I ride conservatively thinking about the mechanical bits and avoiding abuse. Riders with more aggressive gearshifts and braking would definitely see higher service bills. Also, I have noticed that having a good checklist ensures that your bike gets a bit more attention and unnecessary parts replacement is not carried out to rip you off. It is my personal experience that when you are armed with a checklist, the service advisor takes you more seriously and they do not try to sell you unnecessary items like paint protection, engine protection (God knows what!!) etc. This is from my personal experience and I hope this will help fellow motorcyclists on Quora.

Cocodoc is pretty good, the ability to edit pdf's is always good but I have found the Signature copy function particularly useful over the standard PDF tools.
