Supreme Court case Haynes vs. US ruled that requiring a criminal to do these things is a violation of their 5th Amendment rights. So, even a prosecution of these license and registration laws are questionable.Typically, when a criminal is arraigned in court, in the process of a plea deal, all the gun related offenses are dropped and the criminal pleads to a lesser charge. The only people who are ever prosecuted on gun charges are typically otherwise lawful individuals who annoyed the local law enforcement or a dead body is involved.When a police officer pulls someone over or visits a home, any gun license info comes up on their computer. What use is it? It’s the homes and people who are NOT licensed that you need to worry about.So, here is a little state with millions of dollars wasted annually on a database that has no historical claim of aid, has a mass shooting by a person known to have been completely in violation of the laws, and has potentially hundreds of thousands of citizens who are simply not in possession of the right papers. What a BRILLIANT example of government waste.The country of Canada closed its registration program after several BILLION was spent trying to make it work. Maryland closed their registration program after not a single case was matched to the data. The LAPD begged the California Legislature not to enact a registration program after a study showed that it would be extremely expensive to operate and probably not all that useful. When the police are telling you not to do it, maybe there is something to consider.The thing is, the people who get licensed and register guns are not the ones who are committing crimes. In fact, people who have gun licenses where they are issued in the USA are less likely to commit ANY crime than even Police Officers.So, why would you waste tax dollars on a program that has shown ZERO usefulness in every location it has been tried? Because most of us think of “useful” in a vastly different way. The only use such data has been historically used for is to disarm the law abiding public. And that is typically the one use that nobody talks about.
