In King's book, those few who are immune form two groups — the good, who coalesce around Mother Abagail Freemantle, a 108-year-old woman who is basically God's chosen one, and the bad, who coalesce around Randall Flagg, aka the Walkin’ Dude, the Dark Man, or the Devil's Imp, who is basically a demon.People have been comparing the coronavirus to the superflu, leading an exasperated King to exhort them to quit it, pointing out that the superflu was far more lethal.There was a so-so miniseries made in 1994, and a new miniseries is currently in the works. It was supposed to premiere sometime this year, but with what's happening at present, I guess we'll see.

Some of the American troops felt that MacArthur spent the campaign holed up in Malinta Tunnel (the dugout) on Corregidor while they were undergoing bombardment and attack by the Japanese and because MacArthur only made one trip to Bataan during the siege.However it is often overlooked that as a three star and later a four star general the proper place for him was at the headquarters of U.S. Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) which was on Corregidor not on the front line on Bataan. They also overlook the fact that the Japanese air force was bombing Corregidor almost every day and that the men and women there did not in any sense feel immune form attack and MacArthur just like everyone else on Corregidor was just as vulnerable as everyone else on the Island and on many occasions he exposed himself to Japanese bombardments. But the implication that MacArthur was a coward as the term Dugout is meant to convey is totally false. After all this is a man won received seven Silver Star Medals and the Distinguished Service Cross in the trench warfare of World War I. It also refers to his evacuation from the Islands although that was pursuant to a Presidential directive. Personally I can’t see how people can criticize him for allegedly disobeying superior orders and then for obeying this one.So the question becomes what purpose would it have served to have a four star general killed or captured in the Philippines in 1942. Three and four star generals direct operations from a headquarters not from a foxhole on the frontline.
