One thing I want to mention that I don’t think has been fully addressed here amid the many wonderful answers is customer support automation. As a fulfillment company, we have seen that many of our clients actually use automated customer support reps.This sort of practice can be very helpful if you have sufficient data to prove the primary contact reason. So, for instance, if most of your customers are “miserable” about the fit or finish of a shirt (perhaps the sizing is smaller-than-expected), you can create a largely automated return tool.Having a support library or even an automated chat-bot that gleans pertinent information to cut down on the AHT of your representatives will also be helpful.A lot of people think that support automation is “impersonal”. It isn’t. It’s actually a great deal more personal, because if automation can reduce your case load by 50%, you can compensate by reducing your labor force by 25% and yet *still* provide significantly more time than you otherwise would sans-automation.Also, as a few other commenters have mentioned, asynchronous vs. synchronous is huge. Chat and phone support are fabulous, but the AHT — especially on phones — seems significantly higher. Chat AHT can be extremely high as well, because you will find that your customers are not necessarily “focused”. They may be playing a video game, arguing with their siblings, or booking flights online while chatting with you about their customer support issues.Personally, I would recommend starting with automation and asynchronous contact methods to start. If you move enough product to support it, I would then venture into phones, but I would have dedicated representatives for phones — this way you don’t end up having your entire team hog-tied by people who legitimately want to vent for forty-five minutes, thereby throwing off your productivity measures. Save manual chat support for when you truly have a full-fledged team of representatives.In closing, if given the choice between hiring an extra representative or two or using that money to create a support library/automation tool, build the tool. You’ll save far more money in the long run, and you will be less likely to have a “difficult downsizing discussion” with an employee down the road when you realize that you require automation to scale.

A warship I served on spent a week or so tied up at Rota Spain in August. I rented a little Seat (See-aht) car and a couple of guys tagged along with me. History has a strict saying “Those who do not learn from history will repeat it again”.History warns us, (for those who can still be bothered to commit the “crime” of having a personal library of old books) that when “Election” does not happen, or it happens corruptibly, with fraud or abuse of Democracy, it leads ultimately to violent confrontation, and to Civil war.In England the government has been “busy” closing down all the rare and old book shops, and many books , papers that tell you many truths from history, risk being all but “forgotten”. Those who own large amounts of books are increasingly viewed with dark suspicion, and find their books mysteriously get stolen…..And if you all are made to “forget”, your children do not get taught proper comprehensive history in Schools, and all inclusive History atthat, then the past mistakes risk more than a liklihood of repeating themselves all over again.The longer the undertainty goes on, festers, the more Doubt and Conspiracy theories get sown, the more the “fired”, the sacked, the discredited write their true stories of how “Democracy” failed them, the more election fraud news comes out, the wider and deeper the social division will become, leading, if not soon checked, to violence on the streets and to war. In any country.During English History, a king who felt he had the God given “divine right” to do as he pelased, messed around with parliament; Appointed his cronies to top jobs, fired all the honest favourite sons, and replaced them with his own darker alternatives.The English King held the people, their wishes and votes, and their parliament in Contempt….his abuse of power led to Civil War.Parliaments that refuse to be elected, governments that avoid and refuse to “go to the people” or take Referendums to sound out the true wishes of its people, risk Civil war for sure.Divisions and gross injustices against minoritys, Jews, Blacks, Chinese or Japanese persons or other persons from distant lands, and “Right wing” tantrumming bursts of rhetorical policies and threats, and a internal government “inner sanctum” divided against itself, the archetypal “feet of clay”, lead us all down a dark and lonely road.bad government, Miss government, Corruption, ends badly, ends finaly….When you see the top Military chiefs replaced in office overnight with others loyal to a rival cause, when you see reports of soldiers beig prepared to “restore order” down there, or you see ambiguous promises that “all is well” when the general news points very much “the other way”, then its time to dust of your Minute man aht, clean your Musket, shine the bayonet, and fill the pouch with dry fresh powder. And hang it on the abck of your homestead doors….One hears much news and many things, whether the truth is in them who can tell…..Ever widening ever deepening social division, public gafs and divisions in Government, are highly corrossive to public (and Military) trust. More to the point, they are foolish and highly dangerous thigns to continuously engage in doing.When all this happenned in ancient Rome, it led to sometimes public assasinations, poisonings, and to an army crossing the “Rubicon”. The Rubicon bridge over Romes ancient roads was the final point of “no return” whereupon, things were “automaticaly going to happen”.The time for talking to the King had ran out, options ran out, so did Thomas Fairfax, but something sadly had to be done…..the trial MUST end….King Charles went just that bit “too far” he crosed the political line or “Rubicon” and Oliver Cromwell warned his grace, that he might now have led his country into Civil war.but he refused to heed the warning signs…..and he lost….Years of a corrupt parliament “without election” o going to the people were at an end, a series of THREE bloody civil war periods were at an end…but still King Chrles refused to face reality.I am no lover of Olver Cromwell, parliament, nor the “King” neither”. You could in fact truly say, i have sufferred greatly because of them metaphoricaly speaking. But the warnings from history speak far louder to me than any newspaper, internet blog or fake news articles.In America we have major Division and uncertainty, inEngland we have the same factors involving Britians departure from the Eu and the series of impending Winter events looming over the horizon, and a divided population of Discontent. During Trumps years in office, britain has behaved abdly with its own people and its own Government, following its own cynical Political ends. now with trumps non Election (at least not yet) the road has opened to a more dangerous siutation unless things are resolved sppeddily and transparently over the Government policy (Brexit). And its bitter toxic harvest afterwards.The lesson is this. Extended quarrells, Political arguements and Corruption, Injustice, and the refusal to admit defeat or accept Legal changes, leads inevitably to violent unrest, even to War.. If the King had been alowed to live, those who defeated him feared later he would return to armed power, and bring a terrible retribution upon all of them….The King could have acceppte the change to Government proposed, and left the “field” with Honour? but he refused to yeild to the terms of parliament, and so was beheaded as a traitor. he lost everything.History seriously now risks repeating itself unless this nonesense over the fraud in a Democrtic election does not get resolved Clearly, most of all transparently and quickly to the satisfaction of all.And a similar position exists for England over any failure to complete the FTA talks and leaving in a messy no deal this winter time.* Fractured weak divided leadership coupled to deeply unpopular decisions, and widespread chaos, leads to public discontent and anger.Like in the past, how much damage can public trust take before finaly, “due process” ends, the Rubicon is crossed, and events rapidly spiral out of control…..?History repeats, it is not a game, and if you play it like a game, as did King Charles 1st, you absolutely cant afford to lose……“I go now, from a Corruptible Crown to an incoruptible Crown” Final words of King Charles 1st.*Messy FTA No Deal, not the earlier “brexit” no Deal as originaly feared).
