PDF Editor FAQ
Why do intelligent people often hold back their opinions?
The most often problem is one of wasted effort.I have this issue every time I write about intelligence and my experience as an intellectual. They get a few reads but not nearly the kind of reads as my answers on politics or mental health. I’m intensely interested in the process of intellect, but these answers are among the least viewed and commented on.The same applies in daily conversation. In general I avoid offering up my opinion unless it is asked for. Experience has taught me that if I insert my opinion where it isn’t wanted I appear to think a lot of myself and be trying to dominate the room.Mind you I do tend to try and succeed at dominating a room, but silence is as effective a tool at that as offering opinions.A short intelligent question communicates more about the ability of the asker than them telling you what they think.Which is probably why I don’t post many questions here. All of my questions are of a deeper nature that require scholarly attention, and most answers here are of a more general scope. This is my outlet, especially because I get answer requests. That implies that people want my opinions on things, which makes me a little less of a show off when I respond. As I sit here I have 137 requests in my active inbox, and several thousand more outside of the active flow. I will never clear that box and I haven’t been able to for months.Part of ability is knowing when you have relevant experience and when you don’t. It’s important to know how much effort you can reliably put to any task.Offering opinions is work because you have to defend them. It is a form of proof of your ability, and that challenge is unpleasant more often than not.Confident intelligent people don’t need the approval of everyone they meet, they treasure the regard of those with more wisdom and experience than them.
With one day left before the JEE Advanced results, how are you feeling?
I am irritated. The reasons are:People are giving so many different predictions that I still have no clue where I will stand. For my score(137+),some are saying rank will be above 12k and some are saying it will be less than 6k. I am like , “What?”.I still have no clue whether JEE Advanced Professors have seen my feedback or not.And if yes then whether they have taken it in account or not.If yes then whether they will inform me or not.If not then how will I come to know.My college has messaged me four times to come and collect the mark sheet for 12th.But the only thing I would like to say to them is, “I passed,Great! Now,I don't give a F*#k about it right now.I can handle that business on 12th June”.I researched about possible branches and one thing I came to know was there are too many branches and I do not know which ones are available for me and out of those which one should I take. And when I try to research about a branch on the website, then most have them have broken link for syllabus. My preference order for BITS is still pending.I do not know in which order I should go and which one I might get.My MHCET form is still incomplete because I have not taken my mark sheet,Leaving certificate, character certificate from college yet.So there are too many problems in my life right now. But,I would still humbly request JEE Advanced committee to give my result.PLEASE!Best Regards,TGA
Which cricket team is the most honest team?
It is the “INDIAN CRICKET TEAM” (Without any second thought)Sachin does not wait for the umpire's decision and walks in the 2011 World CupTendulkar proved his greatness by walking in a 2011 World Cup matchSachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest role models that the game of cricket has ever seen. Apart from being a fantastic batsman, he was also someone who upheld the spirt of the game throughout his career. A proof of this was witnessed during India’s successful 2011 World Cup campaign in a match against the West Indies. Sachin had been in fine form with the bat and this was another opportunity for him to get some more runs under his belt.A delivery from West Indies pacer Ravi Rampaul hit his glove and carried through to the keeper. The umpire was stuck in two minds, but his predicament was resloved by the great man himself as he decided to walk. This was one of the several instance in Sachin’s career when he walked before the umpires took their decision.MS Dhoni shows a big heart and calls Ian Bell backBell returned to bat after an iconic decision by MS DhoniIndia’s former Test skipper MS Dhoni transformed what could have been a grey chapter in the India-England cricketing rivalry into one of its most memorable moments. In the 2nd Test of the 2011 series, Ian Bell walked out of his crease while on 137 without noticing that the ball was still in play and not dead. An Indian fielder was quick to spot this and quickly removed the bails. The Indians appealed and Bell was adjudged run out as the umpires called for tea. During the break, the England team management approached Dhoni and requested him to review the dismissal and withdraw the appeal. The Indian skipper graciously obliged and Bell was seen walking out to bat after the interval much to the surprise of the crowd, who gave Dhoni and his men a warm applause. This was one of the best examples of the spirit of cricket being displayed by an opposition captain.Gundappa Vishwanath persuades the umpire not to give Bob Taylor outVishwanath’s gesture of asking the umpire to reverse his decision was applauded by allBack in the 1979-80 India-England Test series, another great Indian named Gundappa Vishwanath took the spirit of the game to a whole new level. England’s wicket-keeper batsman Bob Taylor was batting at 43 when an appeal for caught behind off the bowling of Kapil Dev was upheld by the umpire. The batsman showed his resentment at the decision and hesitated to leave the crease.Seeing the situation, then Indian skipper Vishwanath walked up to Taylor and asked him whether he had nicked the ball, something that the latter denied. This prompted the legendary Indian batsman to persuade the umpire to reverse his decision and Bob Taylor was allowed to play on. Gundappa Vishwanath’s gesture earned him great respect from all quarters.
