PDF Editor FAQ
Why does the Harry/Hermione pairing seem to be more popular with men than women?
I’ve thought about this question for a while now, and this is my interpretation:I’m not sure about if most Harmione shippers are men, but the most, eh, violent, passionate ones on this page are. This is based on what I’ve personally seen, but I have no numbers, so we can’t be sure if the statistics are true. We must also note that these gender reflections I’m about to make is certainly not true for everyone, so please don’t feel insulted if you don’t agree! Anyway -Female Harmione shippers tend to insert themselves in/identity with Hermione. They prefer Harry over Ron, and wonder why Hermione didn’t prefer him, too. They often write cute moments between the two, sometimes with Ron bashing, to show him out of the way.Male Harmione shippers, however, tend to insert themselves in Harry, and, perhaps more importantly, they claim Harmione is canon! Why is that?Well, I’m quite sure the movies played a part here. They did add some Harmioneish moments (the dancing scene, the “omg we’re busted” moment when Skeeter found them hugging etc). But after reading some Harmione answers, I must admit that it doesn’t seem like the whole truth.I wonder, is it because for men, hugging someone who’s not family or a love interest is a lot more taboo that it is for woman. Men don’t usually hug their friends, so if they read a scene where Harry and Hermione hug, or otherwise touch each other in ways they wouldn’t with a platonic friend, they often interpret it as a romantic moment.Men and women read/watch the same thing, but seem to interpret it differently. But Hermione is a girl who was written by a woman.I made a quick Google ”girl friends”, and we get lots of pictures of girl who’s hugging, sitting close together and putting their arms on each other. Here’s a screenshot of the first pictures I get:The very first picture, with the pink background, immediately reminds me of the Harry and Hermione moment in the graveyard, which male Harmione shippers tend to use to show how Harry and Hermione “are in love”.This is a lot sadder - they’re visiting his parents’ grave after all - but it’s basically the same thing. She’s a girl who’s resting her head on her friend’s shoulder. In the heavily quoted book scene, this doesn’t happen. But she squeezes his hand, he puts his arm on her shoulder (after he’s cried and needs support) and she puts her arms on his waist. For a man, that could be interpreted as a romantic moment. But for a woman, it’s more like a less happy version of this:(Image source: Back View Of Four Girl Friends Hugging Stock Photo - Image of relaxation, relax: 120207068)And what about that moment by the end of the Chamber of Secrets movie, after Hermione comes back from being petrified? It’s also often used by male Harmione shippers as a proof or clue that Hermione romantically loves Harry.…while for me, and probably many other girls as well, this tight hug is a perfectly normal way to greet a platonic friend you haven’t seen in a while. It’s like this:(Image source: Bilder, stockfoton och vektorer med Girl Friends Hug)Instead, I think her slightly awkward handshake with Ron, immediately afterwards, indicate romantic tension. If she only had platonic feelings for him, of course she’d have hugged him, too!My female teacher seemed to agree with me, because when we watched this in school (as a way to practise English), she laughed and said, “aww, you know the two ended up married, don’t you”.A few weeks ago, I wrote this in another answer:You see, one of the reasons I like Romione is actually because it’s canon. […] I read a book series and I liked what I read, including Romione. Now, I wonder if it’s the same for many male Harmione shippers. They read, or watched, a story they interpreted as a Harry/Hermione romance, and liked what they read. The fact that Hermione ended up with Ron instead, which they often claim happened “out of nowhere”, probably annoys them and make them more passionate, just like I become more passionate about Romione when people question it.But I’m a girl, or a woman or whatever, and I dislike Harmione, so I might be completely wrong.PS. Although Harry is a boy, he was still written by a female author - and it shows. Rowling also spends lots of time describing how handsome some male characters are, for example. A heterosexual boy, which she claims Harry is, would probably not do that, or so they’ve told me, anyway. Therefore, him hugging Hermione is probably not meant to be romantic, either.
Why do people ship Taekook or Jikook when Jungkook is straight?
The subject of shipping in general is broad and complicated. And it's not just about Jungkook either. So let's talk about it. As far as I'm concerned, there are 5 Catagories of Shippers. All with different attitudes, different habits, different motivations and different levels of toxicity in each one. These Catagories have been created by my personal observations and interactions with shippers in the past. So before my comment section gets flooded with “not all shipper" comments, I'm aware that not all shippers necessarily fit in these catagories and that there is nuance in everything. But many, many shippers do fit in one or more of these Catagories and I believe it's important to make this distinction rather than demonize each and every single shipper in this fandom. I'm certain that lots of ARMYs will already be familiar with concept of shipping, but I will be breaking this down a little more in-depth for any new ARMYs or even new K-Pop fans who may not understand how any of this works yet. Those of you who are already familiar with this subject can disregard the side explanations I'll be including just in case. So, without further ado, I present to you the 5 Catagories of Shipping and their most overt behavioral patterns:Catagory 1 — “(Friend)shippers”. These shippers don't typically have any interest in any of the various narratives among romantic shippers who insist there is anything more than platonic/family-like love between the members of BTS. For example: a (friend)shipper might have a particular fondness for Hobi and Yoongi’s friendship and refer to them as “Sope" (Suga + J-Hope), but don't believe there's any kind of “relationship-y" stuff going on between them. They “ship" certain members as friends or brothers because the dynamic of their relationship with eachother really is deeply endearing. Every (friend)shipper I've met thus far has been sweet, friendly and very approachable. They are typically very easy-going and realistic. They have all of my respect as a fellow ARMY.Catagory 2 — “Casual shippers". These shippers are vocally supportive of a hypothetical romantic relationship between two BTS members, but they're usually pretty laid-back and polite about it. Most casual shippers I know are not pushy, rude or unkind. Even if I vehemently disagree with the idea of shipping real people as a whole, I respect their right to have their own hopes/fantasies as long as they don't cross the line and start insisting that their fantasy is reality. This is normally not an issue because most “casual shippers" don't seem to have much of an emotional investment in their ship. It's just fun. Like a hobby. And again, while I completely disagree with shipping real life people in general, shippers in this Catagory also have my respect as a fellow ARMY. The fact that we don’t necessarily see eye-to-eye does not mean we have to be enemies.Catagory 3 - “Aggressive Shippers". This is where things start getting ugly, folks. So I suggest that you buckle up and grab some popcorn because it only goes downhill from here. Shippers in this Catagory are often belligerent and hostile toward anyone who questions the validity of their ship. They are also typically among those who openly bash other shippers, call other ships “fan service" as if their ship has any more basis in reality than other ships and actively participate in the radioactive shitstorms on Twitter that we refer to as “ship wars". From what I can tell, alot of shippers in this Catagory are hormomal teenagers (majority female) who ship certain members because they see a pairing like “Jikook" or “Taekook" as the only other “acceptable" option if they can't have their 0pPaS for themselves. They lack the mental or emotional capacity to accept that the members will more than likely eventually marry a woman who's not them and they can't stand it. In their jealousy and immaturity, they come to the conclusion that it's fine if their 0pPa falls in love with another man because then they will never have to accept that any member had “the nerve" to choose another woman over them. It's very silly and childish logic that tends to give away who the young ones are. There is also a rather popular theory that makes quite a bit of sense where shipping is concerned. “If one hot guy is good, two hot guys is even better". It would make sense to a certain extent for a female who is attracted to male bodies to be excited by the sight of two male bodies. Especially if they're doing things to eachother that she wishes she could be doing herself. So there is an element of “living vicariously" through these “guy x guy” fantasies. While there's nothing wrong with fantasizing about two hot guys together, there certainly is something wrong with reducing what would ideally be a healthy, loving relationship between two men to a dirty little play in your head where the boys are your puppets and their relationship is whatever you say it is.These shippers do more than their fair share of oversexualizing/fetishizing gay relationships (which is the OPPOSITE of acceptance, btw) and completely undermines ALL of the progress the LGBTQ+ community has made by reducing these HUMAN BEINGS with actual thoughts and feelings and lives into your personal “playthings". Remember when you were a kid and you used to smash a Barbie and a Ken doll or 2 Barbies or 2 Kens together because you wanted them to fuck? That's exactly what you're doing now. Except now you're doing it on the Internet and you're playing with real people's love lives. For those of you who like to cry, “Stop assuming their sexualities!”, no one is “assuming” anything. We KNOW their sexualities. They've told us over and over again that they are all straight. For those of you who want to argue, “But they CAN'T tell us if they're not straight! They're Korean!”. Bullshit. South Korea is still very much a conservative country, but they are evolving with time. Is it still a taboo topic there? Yes. But it's still a taboo topic here in the States too. There are still ridiculous “Straight Pride Parades", there are still are still laws in place in some states that restrict gay couples from adopting children (or at least it make it so ridiculously difficult that gay couples give up hope and stop trying). There are still Governors and Senators that support cruel practices like “Gay Conversion Therapy". There was a whole “transgender bathroom" debate that went on here in the U.S. a couple years ago. I think we all know that was complete and utter trainwreck. As far as human sexuality goes, the U.S. is considered one of the most “open" countries on the planet, but even so, the LGBTQ+ community is STILL met with fierce opposition at every turn. And let's not be stupid here, okay? South Korea is IS NOT Russia or Saudi Arabia, where being anything other than straight is a literal death sentence. Admittedly, South Korea is still behind even Japan and Taiwan in terms of having comprehensive non-discrimination laws. If an idol came out as gay, it would probably be a huge scandal, but it would NOT be the end of the world. Attitudes on this issue are slowly but surely changing in South Korea. And if shippers think that their hypersexualized fetishizing is helping make progress in any way, they're wrong. Some of you might say, “But Lindsey! Shipping isn't even about politics!” Oh, is that so? You sure about that?AND I OOP-… 🤐Some in this Catagory also use shipping as a means of making a sociopolitical point. They blather on about how shipping helps “dismantle the heteronormative agenda in society". One Direction fans tried that mess with “Larry" and all they managed to “dismantle" was Louis and Harry's very real friendship.Congratulations, you played yourselves! 🙄 Keep it up with Taekook or Jikook and watch what happens.Alot of these shippers also have a nasty habit of bashing certain members of BTS who are perceived to be “in the way" of their ship. This is how toxic shippers and akgaes in the fandom overlap. Sometimes it's hard to tell them apart and sometimes they make themselves known quite clearly. As you can see, none of it is pretty and none of it is what ARMY is supposed to stand for. And it only gets worse. Which brings me to:Catagory 4 — “Delusional shippers". These shippers are just the definition of cringe. They are so hell-bent on proving that their ship is the “true, superior" ship, it's almost pathological. Anything close to resembling opposition is immediately seen as an attack. They have also completely lost their ability to separate fantasy from reality. In their minds, their ship is the gospel truth and no one can tell them differently without some pretty vicious responses. The members of BTS themselves aren't safe from this vitriol either:I don't own a crystal ball, but, MARK MY WORDS: After Jungkook and Tae and Jimin are all happily married to a beautiful woman someday (and they WILL be married to women), these delulus will still swear on their life that their marriages are a cover-up and BigHit or the boys’ parents “forced them to break up” and marry someone else. I'm not psychic, but I would absolutely be willing to bet that that's what's gonna happen because shippers in this Catagory absolutely will not accept defeat or face reality. And believe it or not, it still gets worse from here. Last, but certainly not least:Catagory 5 — “Toxic Shippers". These shippers are by far, the absolute WORST. Not just amongst the shippers, but the entire fandom. These shippers are so crazy and deluded that they have threatened and continue to threaten the boys' lives for the sake of their damn ship and if that isn't one of the saddest things you've ever heard, I really don't know what to tell you. These shippers cannot be reasoned with. They can't be convinced to see any perspective that doesn't serve their smug sense of certainty and ownership they hold over the boys. There is no such thing as “having a dialogue” with shippers in this Catagory. They are absolutely dead-set on making sure that their narrative is the ONLY narrative, facts and logic be damned.Alright, I think we’ve all had enough crazy for one night. So Sane ARMYs, I'm talking to you right now. There is obviously nothing we can do to stop psychos being psycho. If you see this kind of shit on your feeds, REPORT! 👏🏻 BLOCK! 👏🏻 REPEAT! 👏🏻I think that by now, whether you're a shipper or not, we can ALL agree that Catagory 4 and 5′s behavior is absolutely unacceptable and we should ALL be on the same side on this. Non-shippers and shippers may not agree on everything, but THIS mess should be universally wrong for anyone with a conscience. To address the original question directly, the reason why people ship Jungkook (or anyone, really) with someone else when it's pretty clear that they are not actually together could be any or a combinations of the reasons I've discussed above. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions, but the second they step over the line and start saying things to hurt other ARMYs or the boys, they should expect to get checked on the spot.Hope this answer helped! Enjoy your day. 💜(Not For Reproduction — Please Don't Share Without Permission)
How safe is it for a dog to fly on an airplane?
I shipped my dog internationally, twice. Different destinations each time.Animal holds are safe and temperature controlled. They are not hot and stuffy as Lu’s answer says. They use the same AC circulated air system that is in the cabin. If it’s safe for you it will be safe for your dog.If your animal is too large, or not allowed to be in the cabin, you will need to consider several things. Some countries have very specific rules regarding animal shipping. You will need to investigate these regulations carefully and comply fully. Here are some of regulations you could encounter.Airlines can refuse to load your dog if it’s too hot or too cold. It used to be if it was colder than 7C and hotter than 25C. This may make shipping difficult if you’re traveling in winter or mid summer or if there is a big temperature differential in your exit and arrival pointsMost countries/airlines have minimal crate size requirementsSome countries require a vet inspection before your pet is loaded or unloaded at destinationNot all flights will take animals. You’ll need to check carefully that your particular flight allows animalsIf there are any layovers, please be warned that airline staff are not required to treat your dog in any special way. They can and will be viewed the same as luggage and other cargo.I strongly urge anyone shipping their dog internationally to get a qualified shipper to assist them. This is particularly important if there are any layovers. The shipper will make sure all your paperwork is in order. They will make sure your animal is in complete compliance with all regulations. They will make sure your dog is loaded onto the same flight you’re on. They will arrange for care and rest areas for long and complicated flight plans. They will arrange for someone to deal with unexpected issues that can occur, such as flight delays. They will let you know what to expect from agriculture department inspections and fees in the country of arrival.Any animal can be shipped safely. It’s a matter of attention and planning to make sure the plans are implemented correctly.
