They all say the same thing. They know what they are looking for when you submit an application or go for an interview.My first ever experience was as a teenager going for my UK visa. I had no idea what to expect. I got to the embassy to find out everyone came to their interview wearing formal wear, suits, ties, the whole package.Here I was in my jeans and T-shirt watching people cry and run out and people looking like they are about to get sentenced to life in prison.My interview lasted a whole of 2 minutes and I was told my passport will be delivered to the consulate near my house. And it was there with a visa printed on it a few days later.When I was going for my US visa, boy did everyone talk a lot about how tough they are and how they reject for no reason cuz they don’t like Indians and blah blah. Submitted my application. Went for the interview. This is how it went. “What do you do for a living” … “where are you going” …. “ you will receive your passport in 5 days”. That was it. Shocking … my passport was received 4 days later with my 10 year visa stamped on it.Shengen visa. Printed the application form. Filled it. Took the docs they asked me for. Submitted it. Paid my fees. 3 days later I picked up my passport and visa.Singapore, Philippines, Germany, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, Panama, Argentina, Dominican Republic, China, Costa Rica, France, Belgium, all places I have visited. No one has hassled me cuz of my passport.I visit the US a lot. Always had a pleasant talk with the immigration officer. Well lot less recently cuz the new machines have taken over. Still get to have small chat when you go to get the entry stamp on your passport. I have only ever heard welcome to the United States.Contrary to popular beliefs, they are not sitting there hating anyone. They know what to look for when someone is in front of them.It is possible to be a global citizen and see the world on an Indian passport.
