PDF Editor FAQ

What is the most “not Asian thing” about you?

I used to be really fascinated with Maths. I liked the stimulating Math questions that really made me think till my brain hurt. But after getting straight F9’s for 2 years in secondary school Math, my brain gave up. Unlike other Asians, I like(d) Math, but I’m absolutely horrendous at it.I didn’t have the distant relative or friend’s kid I was compared to growing up. My grandmother loved me, my parents were perfectly happy with me, I wasn’t bullied at school for being a little nerd. Maybe I was the kid that everyone was compared against. I realise how insanely lucky I am. Nobody has ever told me I was too short/too fat/not smart enough.I don’t have the Asian flush. Maybe I have poisoned my body enough that it’s threshold for alcohol intake is sky high, but I never had a problem with holding my own. I have outdrank guys in Uni.I think the most non-Asian thing about me is that, I am a curious amalgamation of my Western education and my Chinese roots. I go to school, and I learn about facts of the world that scoff at my Chinese superstition. I am a woman of science, but yet I still pay respects to my ancestors and burn them paper money, paper clothes and paper servants. I speak fluent English, and the medium of instruction in school is English, but I speak fluent Chinese. At work, more than one customer has commented on my Chinese proficiency. People my age usually only spoke English. Unlike the other kids at school who are like, “ugh why do we have to learn anything chinese”, I have read about all the dynasties in China, I have memorised all the 300 Tang Poem by the time I was 7, I know my Confucius quotes. And i actively choose which of these values I subscribe to. I think many of my Chinese friends tend to stick to traditions, not because they want to, but because they don’t want to stir shit at home. Or they completely disregard their Chinese ancestry and become very, very Westernised. I have (respectfully) disagreed with my elders about the Three Obediences and Four Virtues during religious classes, and ensured they saw my point of view; I have defended my culture and tradition in school against cynical classmates. Just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

What are the benefits of CrossFit training?

The following is a testimony of my experience and opinion :About 3.5 years ago, I joined a Crossfit box back in my home country. It was recommended by a couple of close friends. Having had no interest in fitness my entire life, I decided to give it a go anyway since I was going through some rough times and I figured a lifestyle change would help. And it did.I was 82kg, 21-22% BF before I started crossfit. As a 172cm (5′8″) guy, it probably doesn't sound too bad for the general population. But compared to the standards in my hometown, I was definitely overweight. After a month, I was 74kg, 18% BF. I only trained 2-3 times a week due to crazy soreness and intensity. After another 2 months with the Crossfit box and another 4 months of Crossfit-inspired self training (I went overseas to study and couldn't afford to join a Crossfit box but the uni gym had most of the equipment I needed), my weight dropped to 62kg, 14% BF.Please note that other than a controlled quantity of meals and reduced intake of coke, I did not have any diet rules and did not take any supplement including protein.I did not train to become a bodybuilder or powerlifter. I started Crossfit for motivation and discipline, and it worked. I do have an unconventional lean body because of the unrestricted diet and not-so-progressive lifts, but that's just my choice. You can always adjust your workout and diet to your preference.Besides the bonus experience of having a 6 pack, Crossfit has greatly improved my overall athletic performance, from endurance to strength, explosive sprints and vertical jumps. I used to be a catch-and-shoot only basketball player, and suddenly I have this quick first step to easily blow by defenders, sufficient strength for post play, incredible stamina, explosive jumps for blocking taller players etc. Because it includes Olympic lifting, calisthenics, gymnastics, cardio, it also give you an edge in other sports and exercises, hence the name crossfit. The biggest difference between my workout now and the actual WOD at a crossfit box is, my workout is performed solo. I do get workout partners who are interested in joining me from time to time, but they always give up eventually :(Like other answers here, I would definitely recommend you to give it a try, and make sure you emphasise on the correct form / technique before doing heavy / high reps.I hope you enjoy your Crossfit experience as much as I did.

Comments from Our Customers

I had an issue with the activation code not working due to my reinstalling Windows on my PC. The customer support team was very helpful in getting the issue resolved within a very short time! The issue was not due to the Cocodoc Desktop software, but rather, due to me restoring my PC. I am very impressed with the courteous and professional customer service team!
