PDF Editor FAQ

Me and my wife are developers with 7 years of experience and earning around 23L INR together. Should I immigrate to Canada?

I was in same situation as you when I got my canada PR I had 7+ years of experience in IT. My wife also had same experience.I moved to canada in 2016 after winding up everything in India. Left my decent paying job in Pune. My wife went 6 months before i went as she had parents in Canada. I continued my job in India and she was trying to find a job. She found a job in 3 months. From my personal experience I would say initial 6–8 months would be really tough if you don't have any relatives to support. Trying to find a job and getting all things necessary for settling like driving license, bank accounts, health cards, finding place to stay etc. There are lot of jobs in software development in almost any technology. You just have to be little flexible. I would suggest either of the you should do contracting as that pays a lot of money and you can account some expenses and save on taxes. Also one can take advantage of other partners benefits from permanent job.The biggest problem people who come here is to come with lot of expectations and no preparation at all. One should have a concrete plan of settlement before landing with atleast 1000 cad per month per person for 6–8 months . Be in touch with Recruiter in the specific area where you will be moving. Network with people and recruiter community on linkedin and find about career opportunities in your specific skillset. Don't be stuck with specific role or teechnology , you have to be flexible with any kind of job.To give you perspective , I had virtual phone number of canada before even landing here. I updated my LinkedIn with number and changed my location on linkedin, soon I started getting calls from Recruiters and HR. I gave few skype interviews and they were ready for next round of discussion but they didn't wanted to wait for too long till I land there. I was constantly in touch with recruiters and had arranged few interviews when I landed there. I had 6 months contract job in 3 days after landing here.I got myself Incorporated in 30 minutes and opened a small business account and started working as IT consultant and in 1 year I had 2 clients and consultee them in their IT business. We got our own house in 3 months after I landed here. Compared to india my salary is like 10 times what I used to earn in India. Ofcourse expenses are also a lot but then you save a lot too.Coming to universal healthcare and education, it is good but it has wait times if you need to see a specialist, but thats with any country which has social benifits. Education is free till high school and is rated at par with most developed countries. Overall its good if you prepare yourself well before landing here.Edit :1 Many people have asked my email address, added me on FB and Linked In to know more about immigration to Canada. I cannot individually address all your concerns or questions as that is not my profession. Applying for immigration to Canada under express entry program is very simple and very well documented on cic website www.cic.gc.ca.I can rundown the overall process but you can always go to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada | Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada and find out more about the process.Find out of if you are eligible to apply under express entry program as skilled worker. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.aspYou should find out in which skilled category you fall based on your education or work experience. You will also recieve CoPR(Confirmation of Permanent residence) which is valid for 1 year from the date of your medical exam. You need to land and claim your PR before its validity.Below are some of the things that you have to do after landing into Canada as Permanent residentWhen you land, you will be asked to go to special counter for first time immigrants and they will ask you general questions.Next you will go for security, here they might ask you to show proof of funds , if you don’t have sufficient funds as per your family size, you might be asked to go back and your PR will be cancelled. How will exams be conducted in this pandemic for college and school students?

This is a serious question in the minds of students and parents alike.Several Universities and colleges have started with online part examinations for the studentsAs far as physical examinations are concerned, universities and education boards will take following precautions :Health checkups and temperature monitoring of students before they enter the exam hall.Mask, face shield, sanitizers to be made mandatory.Exam to be conducted in batches, so as to prevent crowding at entry or exit gates.Students will be placed at 3–6 feet gap, to achieve social distancing. Moreover, since many exams have been cancelled, and many stand postponed till further notice, there's not really a cause for concern now.Stay Home, Stay Safe is the one rule to be followed now, and keep studying for the exams in regular periods, and be prepared for any sudden announcement.~ Abhijay Menon

Why is it so rare in the U.S. for retired parents to live with their children? It seems common in other cultures, but generally looked down on in the U.S.

This is a natural progression, and something you see happening in the rest of the world too - albeit more slowly. When do parents want to live with their adult offspring? When other parents around them are doing so as well, which leaves them with few options for recreation outside the home. When normal everyday living requires a lot of maintenance - standing in line to collect drinking water or to buy milk, etc. When decades of putting work and kids at a higher property than yourself, increased stress due to a hierarchical society and workplace, a lack of focus on personal fitness / health checkups, faster aging in tropical weather, a diet laden in cholesterol, a genetic predisposition to diabetes and heart disease, etc. all combine to result in a potpourri of health troubles by the time you hit 50. In India, that's the age when random people on the street start calling you 'grandpa', and offering you a seat on buses. In the US, that's the average age of a Harley Davidson buyer. When your cuisine requires elaborate preparation by an able-bodied person, and eating out is rare and considered unhealthy. When there is a massive gap in quality between 'free' and paid schooling, when colleges and entry-level jobs often come with age limits, when there is disproportionate emphasis on degrees to get employed into a middle-class job, when loans without security are hard to come by, and so you find it your moral obligation to cover the cost of primary, secondary and higher education. This is often the entire savings for many middle class households. When wage differentials are so high that real estate is often not an option for the majority of the population. Most households rent, while a small proportion of the population plays the role of landlord for multiple homes. This in turn means that most of the retired do not own homes and need significant funds to maintain a roof over their heads. When inflation is so high that traditional retirement plans are often unable to sustain middle-class livelihood several decades later. Even the most thrifty of savers, unless they have managed to fully pay off a home, find their savings to be worth very little. When ratio of jobs to people usually means that there aren't too many ways of making money after 50 other than the job you already have. When there is a very strong emotional attachment to your only home. Reverse mortgages are fairly commonplace in the US. Indian parents often find them unthinkable. All of the above are, of course, transitional. Both my wife and I want our respective Indian parents to live with us. While they do visit once or twice a year and stay a month or so, they simply get bored or hate the weather, and yearn to get back to their lives. My parents are passionate about community projects that they started a few years ago in their 50's, while my in-laws started an investment firm at 60 which is now thriving. They visit because of the grandkids, but that's usually not enough to keep them here for too long. It's only a matter of time before this becomes the norm, and that's not at all a bad thing.
