During my life I have been both a corrections officer and an inmate. I would say the most annoying thing inmates do is follow the rules AND make the correctional officers follow the rules.I am a wiz at silly things. One thing that stuck in my mind was the policy and procedure manual, the rule book of what an officer could do and not do. I got burned from time to time but it was fun holding the officers feet to the fire! They hated it. My nickname was “Wanna-bet?.”

Yeah once. I used to have this woman come in and pontificate to her husband about how everything was being done incorrectly in our store. She was quite specific. It happened a lot and she was loud.She was also a thorough pain in the ass, sometimes shopping for hours, then returning half the items the next day for no ostensible reason.Finally, one day, I was standing a few feet away when she began her diatribe about how things were supposed to be done in the store. Once she paused for breath, I said:"Actually ma'am everything that you have said is incorrect. We have a policies and procedures manual which spells out exactly how each tasks in this store is supposed to be done. It is very precise and we follow it to the tee. Everything that you've complained about is being done exactly as it should be.Based on what you've been saying, you've gained your misapprehension through speaking with employees whom you know socially. If you'd care to give me their names, I would be happy to see that they come in on the next several weekends for remedial training so that misunderstandings such as yours are not perpetuated".I'm really good at such contrived pompous language when I'm in the mood and in high school was an award winning extemporaneous speaker. I can lay it on thick at the drop of a hat if I want to.That woman looked at me as if she'd been pole axed between the eyes. I thought I saw a hint of a grin and a giggle coming from her henpecked husband. She couldn't get a word out of her mouth. She just stared at me bug eyed. Finally, she said "Ugh".Sensing that words were soon to follow, I quickly said, "Thank you ma'am if I can be of any further clarication assistance, please let me know" and walked briskly away. She was left shaking her head in a daze. They left soon after.Interestingly enough, they continued to patronize the store, though not quite as frequently. But whenever that woman caught sight of me from then on, she would scurry out of sight.I did mention to the employees who had been complaining to her that if they wished, I would explain to them the reasoning behind everything in the policies and procedures manual and that if they had suggestions for improvement that I would submit them.I also mentioned that failure to adhere to it might mean remedial training on Saturdays and Sundays. Especially if I were to learn of their failure to adhere to it from customers.

We can track everything that takes place on the networks we control. If you are using your own phone on the “bring-your-own-device” WiFi that we so graciously set up for you to use while you’re in the office, yes, we can track what you do on that network, because it’s our network.Now, even if you do not use the WiFi we provide but you let us install that little app we gave you so you can check your work email using your phone, well, that app also lets us track everything you do on your phone. (Did you forget that we told you that? It was on page 13 of the Information Services Policies and Procedures Manual we gave you when you signed on to work for us. Is this your signature on this form acknowledging that you were given a copy of that manual and agreed to be bound by everything therein, as long as you remain employed by our firm? Ok then.) By the way, when we set that up we also captured all the unique identifiers from your phone so that we can more readily track all of your activity.We do this to ensure that when confidential company information gets leaked, we’ll know exactly who was responsible and thus know who to fire and sue. (Also, it occasionally allows us to catch child molesters.)Don’t mess with corporate IT. We know way more than we let on. We just generally don’t talk about what we know.
