And its readers base increased. Its paintings were unimaginably beautiful. Its stories were heart touching, full of morale, fun and excitement.In later years, it was no longer a children’s magazine. It was a magazine for all! I am not sure how many old people, aged people, young people are reading this now but correct me if I am wrong. Chandamama had readers of all ages!It was publishing in 10 different languages - Telugu, Sanskrit, Assamese, Odia, Hindi, Bengali, English, Kannada, Marathi and Tamil.Now comes the sad part.In 2007, Chandamama was bought by Geodesic, a Mumbai-based software services provider company. They planned to take the then 60 year old magazine into the digital era. They ran an official website named Chandamama.com.It had uploaded the scanned pages of year old issues of Chandamama magazine and people could read them online. From 2007 to February of 2013, Chandamama continued to publish.In March 2013, the publication of Chandamama was stopped without any official statement or press release. People who had yearly subscriptions of it went to the official facebook page of Chandamama and started complaining. A message was given on the facebook page that it would start publishing from July 2013, the non publishing was due to technical issue.But that’s it. Poof. Gone. After that, the official Chandamama website went offline. No further statements by Geodesic. The email and phone numbers given on their "Contact Us" page were out of order - Contact Us - Geodesic Limited (now page doesn’t exist).The email I sent was quickly notified as "Not delivered" and all the landline numbers said upon calling that "the numbers don't exist".What happened to Chandamama magazine?x x xIn July 2016, Geodesic company was under the liquidation process and the Chandamama brand and IP is expected to be sold off in due course. The company was found defaulting on outstanding loans and was ordered to be wound up by the Mumbai High Court.In July 2018, Geodesic Ltd and its top officials were under the scanner of the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police, Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax department for tax evasion and alleged siphoning and laundering of $125 million (Rs 812 crore).In January 2019, Bombay High Court issued orders for selling intellectual property rights of Chandamama. The directors of Geodesic Ltd. have given their consent to sell all their assets and it is estimated that the value of Chandamama is Rs.25 crore.I hope that the rights of Chandamama to be bought by someone worthy of re-establishing it and continuing its publication along with “republishing” of year old issues ~ in a similar way “Amar Chitra Katha Pvt. Anyone who has no idea about Chandamama magazine, would no way understand the value of it.I am not sure about the future of Chandamama, and I don’t expect it would emerge again in this age where kids are 24 x 7 busy with their smartphones. I don’t have too much hope for it as books and magazines are not favored by newer generation kids.What makes me sad is that a 66 year old magazine was stopped abruptly by some incompetent idiots who were believed to take it further.It makes me sad that a 66 year old magazine, popular among all aged readers did not get a decent farewell.It makes me sad that the newer generation kids will have no idea what a Chandamama magazine is. All what the platforms can do is block the IP address, but you won’t be fined and your account won’t be suspended if you are caught doing so.Governments banning VPNsGovernment can ban VPNs, but not many of them do so.Why do governments ban VPNs? Because it might help a lot of people do actually illegal activity like using torrents, hacking, doing illegal stuff on the dark web, cyber stalking and many others. And the government has the right to ban them and give out fines or even jail time of using a VPN. Another reason for governments to ban VPN is to control what their citizens see and use online. We can take China as an example, in China many social media platforms, many new websites are banned due to a few reasons: they have their own local social media platforms and they want to control what their citizens do and see online.How governments fight with VPNs:They give out fines or jail time if a user is caught using a VPN, for example in United Arab Emirates you can go to jail for using a VPN or get huge fines.They try to restrict VPNs.
