PDF Editor FAQ

I am from India. Can I join Real Madrid CF?

Basically, no.Even if you were an exceptional footballer, and by that, I mean an order of magnitude better than any other Indian in history, there's one big barrier to overcome…. Work permits. To get a work permit in Europe (as a non-European) requires your new employer to demonstrate to the government that you offer skills that cannot be provided by a European. As football is the national sport / public obsession in most European countries, you're competing against millions of European boys who have been brought up immersed in football. The general test for a non-European work permit is for the applicant be a regular star in their National team, and to be recognisably strong in another domestic league. This is how South American & African footballers make it to Europe (though many do still fail to get work permits). For Asians, this is a much tougher sell, as the standard of Asian football leagues are generally low. There are very few Asian footballers playing in top European leagues. So basically, you need to become a superstar before you could even play in Europe, never mind for Real Madrid. Which means excelling in somewhere like Korea, Japan or the UAE, then possibly trying to 'back door' into Europe via the Russian or Ukrainian leagues. As you wouldn't get in via the Youth route (because of work permits), your only chance to play for Real Madrid is to be bought. But as Real's nickname is 'Galacticos', it should give you some idea as to how likely that is. You'd have to be comfortably one of the best players in the entire world, excelling for a team in one of the big four leagues (England, Spain, Germany or Italy). There are literally hundreds of thousands of professional footballers around the world; Real Madrid is completely unattainable for all but a vanishingly small percentage. You could bypass the work permit problem if your family moved to Europe and you became a naturalised citizen. But even then, there are very few British Indian footballers, and none in the top leagues.Basically, your Indian heritage is working against you on this one. My advice? Focus on being the best Indian footballer. Whether that means you 'break' into Europe or not shouldn't matter. Your country has limited football infrastructure. If you can work to make it popular, and generate interest, then maybe an Indian boy in the future could break into Europe, and cite you as his inspiration.EDIT:As Samie points out in the comments, the EPL and La Liga have different eligibility rules. In Spain, there is a limit of three non-EU players per squad. For a team to give up a non-EU place, the player would have to be worth it.I think my point still stands; there are political / bureaucratic limitations for Indian players that don't apply to Europeans.EDIT 2:People seem to be disputing the suggestion that La Liga has a three non-EU player limit. Honestly… I am not making this up. Anyone who’s played the game Football Manager would recognise this rule. But for more information, see here: La Liga - WikipediaEDIT 3:So this post has received way more attention than I was expecting. It's strange; you can never predict which answers will generate interest and which won't.Thanks to everyone who has upvoted. I think most people get the point I was making, but there also seem to be many people who have responded angrily to this, including people suggesting I am racist. So allow me to reiterate some points. I think what has suprised people is the realism. If the OP was looking for motivational pep talk, there are many other answers for him along the lines of “of course you can!”. I don't personally think this is useful. The answer I would give to anyone asking “Can I play for Real Madrid?”, regardless of their nationality, is “probably not”. Why? Because they're the best team in the World. By definition, you'd need to be one of the best players in the World. And statistically speaking, you're probably not. If you are, then you certainly won't be put off by some guy on Quora. The point on Indian nationality and work permits appears to have caused some controversy. Please understand, I am not saying that no Indian can ever play in La Liga or the EPL. The people pointing out other foreigners in top leagues and that Indians do get jobs in Europe are completely missing the point. I'm pointing out that, as an Indian, you have additional bureaucratic barriers to overcome in order to “make it” in a top league. European footballers do not need visas; Asians do. The number of non-European players are restricted in Spain. These are facts. Of course, if you're one of the World's Best, Real Madrid would probably take you regardless of the bureaucracy and non-EU rule. They want the best. But the point was, for RM to recognise you as one of the world's best, you'd probably already have to be established as a top player in another team somewhere else. Asians have a challenge that European players don't have… therefore it's even less likely you can play for Real Madrid. That was my point.I f you disagree with me, then downvote me and post your own (better) answer. Please let's avoid personal attacks.

Can one apply for both, open work permit (as a dependent spouse) and permanent resident - skilled workers program to Canada?

A visa officer who assesses a work permit application from someone who has applied for permanent residency to Canada may use their discretion to refuse the work permit application on the ground that the person seeking the work permit has not demonstrated a temporary purpose when seeking to enter Canada.

How can I get a work permit / work visa in the US?

As a software engineer, you would be seeking an H1B visa which is a nonimmigrant, temporary work visa. It will allow you to work in a specialty occupation (software engineering included) for a specified period of time, provided that you meet certain education requirements. I will outline the multi-step process here, but I would suggest that you hire an immigration attorney to help you through it.First, you will need an employer to sponsor you. If your current employer won’t sponsor you then you may need to find a new one because your prospective employer will need to file a petition on your behalf to the US Department of Labor. The petition will establish your qualifications so it will contain things like job description, your education, your potential wages, and other things of that nature. After your petition is approved, then you actually begin the application process and you will need to fill out a visa application. Depending on your home country, you may find one online or you may have to go to the nearest US consulate. When you finish your application, then you will need to gather and prepare any other necessary documentation. Things like a passport, application fees, and your approved petition are some examples of what is needed at this stage. Again depending on your home country and what type of visa you are seeking, the requirements may vary so it would be helpful for you to create a checklist here. Finally, there will be an interview at your nearest US consulate. The interviewer will want you to tell them why you are qualified for such visa and then make a determination whether you are qualified and if so, for which visa you qualify. After the interview there will generally be a wait and review process that could take a few months so you will likely have to wait on the results.Again, I suggest that you hire an immigration attorney to help you get a US work permit. An immigration attorney will have experience with the visa process and will be able to guide you through the steps that you need to take to be successful. If you are looking for an immigration attorney or still have questions about getting your work visa, you should visit LawTrades where we will match you with an experienced attorney for a free consultation.
