As an Indian, can I visit Svalbard without a visa?

I’m from South India, Hyderabad. I visited Svalbard in 2019 February. You don’t need VISA to visit Svalbard. But, the rule is, your Flight should take off from India and directly land in Svalbard. If there is such a flight, then you don’t need VISABut, as we know, there is no such flight. We have to Land in Norway and then take another flight to Svalbard. Now, because you are travelling via Norway, you will need a Norway Visa or a Schengen VISA.Therefore, Indians cannot visit Svalbard without VISAFrom Hyderabad, I took a Flight to Delhi. From Delhi I took a Flight to Dubai. From Dubai, I flew to Copenhagen (Denmark)I stayed in Copenhagen for 2 days. Then from there I flew to Oslo (Norway)From here, a 2 hour flight to Svalbard - The most terrific place on EarthThe population here is just 2500. Extremely cold (-35 Degrees)The only problem here was, clicking pictures. To click pictures, we have to remove multiple layers of clothes and face masks. Once you remove, you can just hold for 5 seconds. After that, your skin will start becoming numb and kind of burning sensation._________________________________________________________________________Nature is GOD !This place is so silent and calm. You can hear the sound of the Wind. Sometimes, as you keep walking, you feel, as if you the only person on this planet. The Below Picture was taken as soon as I got down the flight. The flight lands on snow and then, a small vehicle comes to transfer our luggage. Such a small Airport !Dog Sledding was fun. It is a wonder how these dogs survive in such extreme cold conditions. What is it like to visit Europe on a solo trip?

I did my solo Europe Trip (7 countries) for 16 days in Rs 87000 ($1197).This was a dream trip for me in 2018 and I really enjoyed every bit of it. I hope you will like reading my experience.Flight Ticket Booking: The first step for this trip was to book Air tickets from India to Europe. I went to Skyscanner website, chose Delhi to anywhere and the cheapest ticket was to Paris for Rs 13,500 in the month of September. Booked it. Same process I did for the next leg of the trip. Searched for Paris to Anywhere cheapest price. Amsterdam was the cheapest for Rs 1500 (Ryan and Transavia are low budget flights). In the same way I booked all my flights for rest of the 4 countries. Last leg was Rome to Delhi, which was for Rs 14000.Total flight expediture: Rs 38,000 ($522)Schengen Visa: Only one Schengen Visa is required for almost all the European Union countries except a few. You have to apply online for the Schengen visa in the country you have the longest stay. My longest stay was in France, so I applied through it. http://www.vfsglobal.com is the official partner for their Visa where I could easily apply online. Only once you have to visit their office for document verification and in next 1 week you will receive your Visa.Cost of Visa: Rs 6500 ($90)Travel Insurance : HDFCERGO for 16 days for Rs 677 ($9). This is mandatory for Visa. Here is my brief Itinerary:September 29 – Flight from New Delhi to Paris in Kuwait Airways.September 30 and October 1– Sightseeing in ParisOctober 2 – Sightseeing in Paris and travel from Paris to Amsterdam in Transavia AirOctober 3 – Sightseeing in Amsterdam. Overnight travel from Amsterdam to Brussels in a Flix bus,October 4 – Day sightseeing in Brussels. Travel from Brussels to Copenhagen in Ryan AirOctober 5 – Sightseeing in CopenhagenOctober 6 – Sightseeing in Copenhagen. Travel from Copenhagen to Budapest in Ryan AirOctober 7 – Sightseeing in BudapestOctober 8 – Sightseeing in Budapest. Travel from Budapest to Prague via Ryan AirOctober 9 and 10 – Sightseeing in PragueOctober 11 – Sightseeing in Prague. Travel from Prague to Rome via Ryan AirOctober 12 and 13 – Sightseeing in RomeOctober 14 – Sightseeing in Rome. Late night flight back to New Delhi from Rome via Kuwait Airways.Stay in Europe: In all the countries I visited, I stayed with my hosts whom I met on Couchsurfing.com except in Copenhagen (where I stayed in a hostel). For those of you who don’t know about this website, it is medium through which you can host people at your home (no money involved) and the same gesture is returned by different people when you go on travelling. I used to host people at my home in Gurgaon and then people hosted me when I went for my trip. Hence, cost for the stay was only in Copenhagen (Rs 1500/night). During your stay with your hosts, as a good gesture, they also offer some meals at their home (I also used to do the same when people stayed with me, it is a normal human gesture).Total stay expenditure: Rs 3000 ($41)City Transport: I always used public transport for travel within the city. The public transport in European cities is very nice and convenient. I used to mostly buy daily or 3 day passes for unlimited travel within the city. Bicycle was also a good way to travel within the city. In Amsterdam, my host offered me his bicycle and I almost covered the whole city on a bicycle (which was a nice experience)Food in Europe: I was a budget traveler but never compromised on food and never skipped any meals. I ate whatever I felt like eating, tried new dishes and sometimes also bought snack meals from the supermarkets (which are very cheap as per European standards). You will find a lot of Indian restaurants there, but I personally used to avoid those because I wanted to live the European way atleast for 16 days.Sightseeing: I always used to book walking tours for city which are free to say but work on tip basis. They are very interesting as you also get to meet people from different countries. Walking tours were available for almost all the countries I visited. I didn’t go for exotic tourism like Disneyland in Paris and skydiving in Copenhagen because this trip was to feel the culture of different countries and meet new people and gain experiences.I hope my experience will motivate you to go for a solo Europe trip. And remember to take a nice camera with you, because pictures are the memories which I always go back to (I took Nikon D750 with me).Happy Travelling !
