Standard caveat: I can only speak for myself, and to the INTPs I know.“Initiate so little”? I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean: anything? A contact, an activity, interaction, person, hobby, interest, esoterica?The INTPs I know, including me, will initiate pursuit of any and every contact, activity, interaction, person, hobby, interest, esoterica that captures our attention. We go at those like starved rats, with fully sentient passion. As for me, I have rarely lost interest in anything I have pursued (a few, listed below). I might be wrong, but I think I initiated something to pursue these interests through the years. This is not an unusual list for any INTP I have ever known.Some of the items below become passive interests, which also may throw people off. Interests happen in stages, I imagine for nearly everyone, from active initiation→ active pursuit→ practice→ passive pursuit vs discard. Once a subject, whether person or place or thing, catches our interest, it becomes a lifelong interest, though we have to set our interests aside, so they become passive or inactive, thus under other people’s radars. There are limitless interesting places, subjects and people . . . but only limited hours in a day.You may not see any connections among the interests in my abridged list, but they are connected. INTPs have an economical strategy for pursuing lots of different interests at the same time. Our interests are usually related in some unadvertised, undisclosed way that is not apparent. This I am unable to describe because I have always been this way. The INTPs I know, including me, analogize, find metaphors, spot contradictions, inconsistencies and other connections between seemingly unrelated smaller pictures to understand the big picture, so the edge of the universe is the limit.Two notes about the above statements:(1) I can see where INTPs sometimes seem to “initiate so little,” this is because we are surgically focused on multiple other pursuits. We need a window in which we can add new pursuits. We simplify, but we’re not simple to understand—I don’t even understand and wander around with a thousand-yard stare most of the time—but it is inaccurate to believe INTPs “initiate so little.” If I have seemed to fail to initiate my interest in a pursuit today, provided the opportunity presents itself—which might mean someone says, wanna see this political film—I will return to pursue those interests a month, a year, or a decade from now. I will do so with what some describe as “terrifying surgical precision.” Only a single contradiction between two principles or ideas or beliefs is all it takes, regardless of whether anyone else has found any nexus, just to reconcile what I believe are internal contradictions, and resolve what I believe are inconsistent or deficient explanations.(2) INTPs are driven by logic and novel arguments. We are drawn to reconciling inconsistencies and contradictions. Mostly, we love mysteries. Most of this means we live in our heads. As for me, I’ll think about every interest in the constellation (maybe the constellation next-door) of issues surrounding a single pursuit long before my initiation of that pursuit is on anyone’s radar, and by the time it hits others’ radars, I’ve been actively pursuing that interest for a long time. Then I am ready to go. All I need is one or more people willing to go with me.(3) OOPS, this is a third note. We INTPs have quite a distinct inner world inside our brains, which some might consider stationary and not really initiative.Have you not heard? In this regard, we INTPs are delightful. ;)Interests:Law, public policy, criminality, socio- and psychopathy, sequelae of addiction and mental illness (separate and comorbid), serial killers, psychology in general, unsolved crimes.Strategy and logistics.Candy making, crocheting blankets, lace-making, cutting paper snowflakes and stained glass for copper-foil windows.End-of-life, aging and dying issues, dichotomy of our for-profit health care model; reproductive health, ethics, rights, and history of same.Silversmithing, stone cutting (lapidary), beading, jewelry design.Fiction and poetry writing, legal and technical writing.Collecting various vintage items and antiques including—Vintage costume jewelry 1920s-50s—early plastics, milk glass, Japan beads, thermoset parure, brooches, and often elaborate early charm bracelets.Vaseline, uranium, white/blue milk, pink, cobalt, and watermelon depression glass; gilt rolled-edge bowls; art deco glass through mid-century, mainly Georges Briard.Marbles—handmade, transitional, and machine-made [vintage and modern] agates, swirls, onion-skins, color-vein cat’s eyes, by companies like Ravenswood, Peltier, Akro, Champion, and others; early 19th-century clay marbles; fully detailed micros, which requires a magnifier to view the amazing detail.Vintage boxes—sterling pill boxes, Asian lacquer boxes, carved wood boxes, wood cigar boxes.Antique crate labels.Arizona.Martial arts; weight-lifting.Moral/existential philosophy—Kant, Kierkegaard, Sartre, de Beauvoir, Socrates, Aristotle, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche.Comparative mythology and religions, Christianity, Buddhism.People I like; those I love.Fine, studio, Native American, needle, textile arts.; photography; tie-dye.Music—past clarinetist and contralto.History ACE 1–1963, when I was here to make my own decisions.The art of storytelling; music as storytelling; mythology; mythology, folk legends and ghost stories as surrogate histories.***Am I an expert at anything? No more or less than any other hobbyist and person who enjoys understanding.
