PDF Editor FAQ

What are liberals tired of hearing?

I am very, very, very, tired of providing nationally recognized media, academic, or government cited sources to back up my assertions, only to have them dismissed as “twisted media spin” or “Fake News” or ignored outright. In a discussion about how the Republicans were handling Steven King (they are quietly trying to get him back on the committees they removed him from), I was told that the Constitution does not grant the right of Congress to censure or remove its members so the Republican can’t remove Steve King.U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 5: “Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”https://www.senate.gov/civics/constitution_item/constitution.htm“W-Well they can’t!!”“But the Constitution says they can right there.”“But they can’t!!!”*sigh*Or this conversation:Tippy Stein's answer to I'm a conservative, but all I see are liberal answers. Why is that? And just for reference:Trump vs. the Constitution: A Guide(And that was in 2016.)https://libertarianinstitute.org/articles/donald-trump-vs-the-constitution/Especially Tippy’s words after I set out, with cited evidence (as if he had not done all this very publicly), all the times Trump has tried to circumvent or attack the Constitution since he’s been President.“I am sure you believe that, but it is a very twisted version of reality as far as I can see. You do not have to see what I see, I get it and I respect that, but I am certainly not going to change your mind and you are certainly not going to change my mind. At least I will respect your version of reality and not condemn you for it. Please respect my point of view as well.”It’s not like this is hidden secret squirrel knowledge. The threats to use government action to shut people up (NFL, revoking NBC “broadcast license”, and revoking security clearances for previous administration officials who say things he doesn’t like), to trying to circumvent Congress’ Power of the Purse and currently circumventing their power to levy taxes (the tariffs in his trade war). All the deregulating he is doing without actually changing the laws. How he’s instructed his underlings to ignore Congressional subpoenas. All this we all know about. And of course, obstruction of Justice.Response to all this very open knowledge?““A president that hates the constitution” is an opinion, and a wrong opinion because it is not true and has no basis in reality.”She, of course, did not provide a single shred of evidence to disprove what happened. Then there’s domestic terrorism truth vs reality. They complain about antifa as a “terrorist group” because they punch people and break windows, but the response to this government report?https://www.gao.gov/assets/690/683984.pdfAppendix II, page 28 of the report:TL;DR:From 9/11 through 2016Number of fatal extremest right wing terrorist attacks: 62 (And you know right wing violence has only accelerated since then Right-Wing Extremism Linked to Every 2018 Extremist Murder in the U.S., ADL Finds).Number of fatal extremist Muslim terrorist attacks: 23 (25 if you want to add 9/11 attacks on WTC and Pentagon.)Number of fatal extremist left wing terrorist attacks: 0The conservative response to this?*crickets*Tomorrow they will go back to talking about how evil antifa is while ignoring that there are people on their political side of the spectrum that are terrorists and killers. And I am tired of asking for proof of assertions to get nothing, “Look it up yourself” (how weak is your argument when you have to ask your opponent to find evidence prove it? Any claim you make, the onus is on you to prove it), “But Obama, but Hillary,” ad hominem attacks, or stupid memes disproved by Politifact years ago.Or if pushed, links to Breitbart-style op ed rants. See Sergy Babkin below. I won’t use the Daily Kos as a source because I know it’s Left-Wing op ed site, but to the Trumpicans, Breitbart is gospel. To Sergy, everything else is “socialist media.”I wish I could say this is isolated, but this is not. This is normal operating procedure for the Trump “conservative.” If it does not fit in with their very narrow worldview, to them it does not exist. And then they have gall to turn around and claim that “liberals are driven by emotions, not facts.”You can’t have a dialogue with someone who is refusing to acknowledge reality.EDIT: Over 2000 upvotes. Thank you all. It’s good to know that there are a lot of people that are frustrated with trying to communicate with people who refuse to deal in reality. Hopefully someday they change and re-engage with reality and then we can talk. Hopefully it does not take something too cataclysmic for them to change.EDIT II: And for your edification, I present David Marolda, who repeatedly told me that I “did not know what I was talking about” when I work in the very industry under discussion, and that statistics on medical bills being the leading cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. (for which I provided proof) were false, “their numbers Inflated” and “the numbers don’t mean what they say they do.” When challenged to provide proof to back up his claim, “Take the time to find out why,” “do your research,” over and over. And when told it was his job to back up is assertions, ad hominems and blocking me.Gregory Buckley also posted an e-mail address as “proof” of his assertions and told me to “look harder” for an article that does not even come up in a Google search.Gene Costa's answer to Why are people voting for President Trump in 2020?Then there was Doug Carson who, when presented with proof that gerrymandering was more common in red states than blue, tried to have my comment deleted.https://www.quora.com/Why-is-House-Speaker-Nancy-Pelosi-now-launching-a-formal-impeachment-inquiry-into-President-Donald-Trump/answer/Mark-Helfman/comment/110960626Now Trump supporters are accusing the Democrats of “treason” because that is what Trump tells them. And when presented with the Constitutional definition of Treason (Article II, Section 3) and Trump is NOT the United States of America, also the fact that Congress has a Constitutional right/duty to investigate, impeach and even remove the President (Article II, Section 4), it just slides off their mind like water off a duck’s back.

Why do I need method statement for building construction?

Method Statements are perquisite before start of an activity. What is Method Statement?Method Statement is a document that details the way a work task or process or an activity is to be completed. What is in Method Statement? The method statement should outline the followingScopeRoles & Responsibility of engineers, team members involved in the activityEquipments or Tools & Tackles required to execute the taskMaterials required with Material Safety Data SheetHazards involvedHelath, Safety & Environment guidelinesa step by step guide on how to do the job.Inspection Test Plan with Acceptance criteriaChecklistsReferencesWhy Method Statement is required?A method statement helps manage the work and ensures that the necessary precautions have been communicated to those involved.A Method Statement at large sets expectations about the product that emerges out of a particular activity or process. The construction industry has various standards and practices. For e.g. a brick layer can construct a wall using Flemish bond or English bond. While executing, engineers often confuse on which bond to employ when there is no specific written instructions. So here a Method Statement serves the purpose. It gives an idea about the acceptance criteria of a to be finished product. For e.g., the compressive strength of Concrete can be tested using a cylinder as per British Standard or with a cube as per Indian Standard. Again Method Statement clarifies Quality Engineers on acceptance criteria.A ready reckoner to engineers and supervisors who perform the task.A well written Method Statement propels the speed to the project.Far too often, the method statements let loose into construction industry are grossly excessive, unclear, do not concentrate on the key process, or are aimed at the wrong audience. Many contractors feel compelled to produce lengthy and impenetrable documents to satisfy, or even impress, desk based administrators, as part of prequalification for tendering. These “method statements on steroids” provide many pages of content, much of it with no particular purpose, which is often passed to people who do not even manage execution.Conversely, some contractors who are not sure how to describe a system of work decide to substitute clarity with lots of content, in the hope that a method is “in there somewhere”. But the main audience for the method statement should be the on-site supervisors and operatives. These workers need a concise and easily communicable Method Statement.A contractor has to submit Method Statement to Client or Owner for approval. The activity could only be started after approval. Any activity sarted without a Method Statement is termed as breach of contract and can be penalized.A Method Statement in particular to Health, Safety and Environment is termed as HIRA or HIRAC.HIRA C - Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Control.HIRA in hindi is called 'Diamond'. Employing HIRA at site pays back as diamonds.I shall stop the discussion here and will soon write separately in detail about HIRA CPa1

How do airport taxiways work?

This is an interesting topic, to me at least, because taxiways are what make most airports work but they are so specific in layout to each airport that it’s very hard to generalize about how they work.Let’s start with the naming conventions used for them these days. Quite a while back – probably at least 20 years ago – the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) adopted a set of standards for runway and taxiway labeling and marking to make them consistent for international operations. Those are spelled out in ICAO Annex 14, Volume I, Aerodrome Design and Operations. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration followed suit soon after.I was pleasantly surprised to find that the good folks at Jeppesen (publishers of internationally-recognized aviation navigation, procedural and guidance materials) have made available to the public their excellent synopsis of basic runway and taxiway markings. You can find it on-line here:http://ww1.jeppesen.com/documents/aviation/business/ifr-paper-services/airport-signs.pdfICAO Document 9157, Aerodrome Design Manual, Part 2: Taxiways, Aprons and Holding Bays, is a hugely detailed guide to implementing the standards and recommended practices spelled out in Annex 14. I’d commend it to you if you have a serious interest in the engineering that goes into taxiway layout and construction. However, if you just want a high-level summary of major considerations, here goes nothing (deep breath):1. Taxiways have two distinct functions – getting aircraft to runways, and getting them off runway and into parking areas. The busier the airport, the more complex the task of accomplishing these two functions simultaneously.a. Getting aircraft out to runways requires room for the biggest aircraft served by the airport to maneuver safely. Turning radii at corners can’t be too tight, and there have to be options to allow aircraft to be shuffled around if their takeoff order needs to be changed once they leave their gates.b. Getting aircraft off runways is most efficiently accomplished with high-speed turn-offs – angled taxiways that don’t require aircraft to have fully decelerated to safely negotiate a turn, and are long enough to allow the biggest aircraft to pull up to stop lines within them and have their tails completely clear of the runway they have vacated.2. More runways typically translate into a need for a LOT more taxiways. One of my favorite places to watch the waltz of ground movements is William Hartsfield/Atlanta International. The terminals are set between multiple parallel runways, where the “inside” (close-in) runways normally are used for takeoffs and the outside runways are used for landings. During peak times, several aircraft land on each side and are distributed to “stub” taxiways between the outer and inner runways; a gap is built in the departing traffic, and on command as many as a half-dozen or more airliners simultaneously throttle up and cross, headed for the terminal ramps. Very cool looking!3. Taxiways have to be far enough apart to prevent aircraft on adjacent taxiways from bumping into each other. This turned into a significant factor when initial decisions were made regarding which airports could safely handle Airbus A380s, the world’s largest passenger airliner.4. A lot of people forget that big airplanes are awfully heavy. Taxiways are designed to handle known weights, and at large airports are carefully diagrammed to allow pilots to avoid routes where they could be at risk of damaging the pavement (and possibly their aircraft).5. There are as many different ways of laying out taxiways as there are airports. Thomas Green/Providence Airport in Rhode Island used to have one that was a runway during daylight hours and a taxiway at night – I don’t know if that’s still the case, but that’s not by any means the weirdest way airports have had to find to move increasingly large numbers of aircraft around.6. Some airports have almost no taxiways at all, either because they are so small and infrequently used that aircraft simply takeoff and land on a single runway and access it from an adjacent parking area, or because the surrounding terrain (cliffs, mountains, water) hems in everything so much that the vital runway uses virtually all of the available real estate.7. International airports can be HUGE places. For example, look at Mapquest or Google Earth to get an aerial view of Denver International – it’s enormous! However, ironically, physically smaller airports that are just as busy can be so complex to maneuver around in trying to get to an assigned takeoff runway, or to the parking ramp after landing, that it’s not unknown for pilots to become disoriented while taxiing around. This can be embarrassing or disastrous depending on visibility, conflicting traffic and other factors, and was one of the primary reasons behind the ICAO standardization effort.Pilots with only “tall” (as opposed to “venti”) egos who are unfamiliar with an airport might ask for “progressive taxi instructions,” where ground controllers provide turn by turn guidance to get the airplane where it needs to go. GPS and increasingly detailed taxi charts have greatly reduced the need for this (which ticks off busy controllers), but it’s a valuable service – even essential – if a crew really is turned around and at risk of straying into another’s path. In the case of getting lost on an airport, it’s kind of the opposite of the old adage – a crew can open their mouths and be thought fools, or keep them closed and remove all doubt!
