When the grammar is bad.Look, I've never been able to understand why some people can't remember how to use quotation marks or capitalization properly. "It's like this, with the punctuation inside," she said. I can deal with all lowercase or all caps, but consistency matters! Lots!Small mistakes are fine. Everyone makes them, myself included, but making huge glaring errors twice a sentence is just a huge no for me.No breaks between paragraphs. That’s not a reader, that’s an OC.When you rant in place of a chapter, or do something completely unreasonable and expect people to follow your ordersYour personal life does not belong in your fic. Put is as an author’s note before or after the chapter, or post it somewhere else where your readers will see it.One author I used to like put “Do not comment” as a chapter. No explanation, no other words. Then she went off and started screaming in the next chpter after people asked why. It’s just unreasonable to expect people to obey stupid whims like that.When an author holds their chapters hostage for hits, comments, or some other form of interaction.*Should* you comment? Maybe. I’ve seen interaction and fanfiction compared to a community garden: Someone takes the care of planting flowers (writing/producing fanwork). You don’t *have* to water the flowers (comment, interact, etc) but if you do, then more flowers will grow (people will feel happy and make more fanwork). If you don’t, then eventually all the flowers will die (people get discouraged and stop making fanworks)When a "OC" (quotation marks intentional) takes the place of a canon character. Or when an OC is just a flat piece of paper. Or when canon characters are OOC.I've seen a few like this, the first part. My first and so far only thought was: "Why? If you're replacing a character and not changing anything else, then that's not an OC anymore. You're just transcribing the entire series."When it follows the plot of canon too closely. I mean like word-for-word copies the canon material.When I first started reading fanfiction, half of what I read could be copy-pasted from one another. If I see it, I'm immediately exiting whatever it is, no matter if it's the best fic out there. I don't care. It completely breaks the feel of the story. Stop.This also goes for random midchapter author's notes.For school fics only: If the level of the material a class is learning isn't appropriate to their grade level.I read one fic where the characters were supposed to be in college-prep classes, in the equivalent of 10th grade (US). They were learning Pythag. That's something a sixth-grader learns.When teachers don't do their job.Going off #6, the same fic:Teacher: "Okay. Here's the formula. Figure it out."Teacher: *sits down and opens a book*Students: *act as if everything is normal*Eeh. . . I don't think you understand how school works.Homework getting done in 5 minutes before class. Especially in high school. Or when the main character can mess around all day and do nothing and get 2 hours of sleep but manages to become valedictorian.Look, if you're doing this in your fic, then you don't know anything about high school. I'm in high school. I read a fic where the OC or Main Character (Let's call her "MC," kay?) is the second-ranked student in their grade.Friend: "Did you understand last night's homework?"MC: "Whaaaaaat?! We had homework?!"Friend: "Yeah, did you not do it?"MC: *somehow does homework in 5 minutes before class*Friend: "Wow!!"Another student: "Well, what did you expect? They're MC, after all."I don't care if your IQ is 300, you cannot write that fast. My homework takes 3 to 4 hours a night, not including studying and stuff on weekends. Typically, there are 10ish math problems plus notes, 15ish pages for reading and annotating in English (to be discussed in class the next day), a worksheet for Japanese, another worksheet and studying for Chemistry, a paper or two, and studying for tests and quizzes. Even someone with a photographic memory will have to work on the math. And then extracurriculars.An author who clearly hasn't done their research, see points #6 to #8 above.Reaction fics ("Characters from [Frranchise A] react to watching [Franchise A]!!!"), improperly tagged fics, fics that obviously hate on one character or group of characters, etc.Now, enough of the depressing stuff. Let's have some Yes-I-like-this, shall we?AUs where everything makes senseBasically, the author has common sense, uses it to create some believable rules, and follows them. Or when an author accurately transplants characters and everything seems so accurate and in-characterFic that shows not everything is perfectPeople don't always have a "happily ever after," people get hurt and die, people get old and ugly, people get into arguments, people break up and don't always end up together, unrequited love is a thing but isn't always silent pining, people get rejected. That's life, deal.One exception is fluff, which is just. . . Fluff, I guess. Or angst with a fluffy ending, or. . . Well, fluff.When the fic author is better than the canon author so you abandon old canon and consider that fic the new canon. As many people have done with Harry Potter.When the fic is long and well-written and interesting and wonderful and the author updates regularly and completes it! I have immense respect for any and all authors with a completed multichapter fic.When an extremely talented author has written many more works in the fandom and you haven't read them. . . Or you're rereading them and they're just as good as the first time around.Ridiculously good crack fic. Or fluff, Or angst, or. . . Just ridiculously good fic in general.This has kinda become a rambling post, but hey, whatever.That's all, my friends!

I gave the admission test on 7th Dec, 2019, and have secured a rank of 12th, (which is a pretty impressive rank in such a “prestigious test"), so I feel I'm eligible enough to answer this question.Firstly, get this in your head: QUESTIONS WILL NEVER COME FROM CLASS XI-XII. THE QUESTIONS WILL BE FROM CLASS X SYLLABUS, BUT OF AN ADVANCED LEVEL, ESPECIALLY MATHS.You will have a maths paper of 50 marks, containing 20 questions (10 questions of 2 marks each and 10 questions of 3 marks each), which you'll have to solve within 1 hour. After 1 hour is over, your maths worksheets will be taken away and you'll be immediately given a science paper, with 25 marks Chemistry and 25 marks Physics. You'll get another 1 hour to solve this 50 marks science paper.Now, how to prepare and what to do:Chemistry : This will be the easiest part in the admission test. READ NCERT THOROUGHLY, and concentrate on the following parts.Numerical Chemistry, especially MOLE CONCEPT and Stoichiometrical problems. These are not given very well in the NCERT, so prepare them on your own. Remember, a major part of Chemistry will include questions, asking you about no. of moles and no. of molecules, and how much of this reacts with that to produce how much of something else, etc, etc. So prepare them seriously.Concentration of ores and Extraction and Refining Of metals: Read this thoroughly from the NCERT.Organic structures and isomers: Prepare them from NCERT and learn the names and structures of different functional groups (you can use other basic books for that). For example, we were given the structure of Aspirin, and asked what functional groups are present in it.Other than this, memorise NCERT thoroughly, A-Z.Physics:Practise questions from Motion, and the equations of motion. You'll be asked questions about what the maximum distance reached by a stone thrown with a particular velocity is, and shits like that. Don't sweat it, they are easy.Practise questions on Work and Energy, involving Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy, Velocity, etc. Learn equations involving relations between KE, mass, and momentum, e.g. p=root over(2ME)Practise questions on Force, Pressure, etc. And also do HOTS questions on Electricity, e.g : maximum and minimum resistance of a particular device with voltage range and current range given. Do practise questions on Electric Power, Electrical Resistance, Voltage, Current, etc.DON'T SWEAT OVER COMPLEX RESISTOR COMBINATIONS, THEY WILL NOT COME.Other than this, Read NCERT thoroughly. Remember, NCERT is your bible.Maths: Here's where the twist comes. Maths will be the toughest part. I had practised thousands of sums from books like SN Dey, and advanced question papers which I gathered from friends who had enrolled for “Special Tuition Classes for Admission Test". NEVER GO FOR SUCH SPECIAL TUITION CLASSES, AS THEY'RE PURE CRAP.Now here's the reality: Even though I had practised so much from so many places, I did not get anything common in the admission test. Apart from 4–5 questions, I had never even seen the other questions in my life before. Here came the importance of my deep understanding of the subject and my ability to control the situation tactfully and keep my mind cool.Remember, if you don't get anything common in the Maths paper, then dont get scared or tensed. You are EXPECTED not to get anything common. That is why there is so much fuss about the Admission Test---It's unpredictable.So keep your mind cool, and do the 4–5 sums that will come from the book (This time, 4 sums came from RD Sharma). Do them correct. If you do those 4 sums correctly, you'll get almost 10 marks. Now try the difficult sums. Use your analytical knowledge of the subject and all your intelligence and skill. Try to complete another 4–5 sums and achieve another 8–10 marks. If you get 18–20 marks in maths out of 50….and another 35–37 marks in science... then total comes to be 53–57 out of 100. You'll get in the top 20.For maths, I'm not recommending any special emphasis on any topic, because it’s totally unpredictable. You might find yourself standing before sums which you hadn't even imagined could come. In such a situation, your score will depend on your Tactful Approach, Cool-mindedness, And Skill and Intelligence Application in the Exam Hall.Best of luck...For some admission test Maths problems, you can refer to another Quora post by Anonymous.
