In 3 days I'll go to prison for a long time. What should I prepare?

Long time is relative. There's no way to answer for everyone. The theme is: money goes a loooong way.Make arrangements to store your personal property. Separate your clothes from your personal property.Make arrangements to store your important documents. Drivers license, social security card, birth certificate, passport, car title, registration, deed, etc.Change addresses on all your financial accounts to where you want statements to actually go.Write down your bank account routing and account numbers. Have someone mail them to you. Don't make it say “bank account numbers”, or else the mail room might censor it. You'll know what the numbers mean.Do you need to save your personal phone number? Find a cheap plan for your stay. Or, transfer it to someone else's account.I highly recommend you attach Zelle to your savings account with your email address. Likewise, setup a PayPal account.Find at least 2 people who you can call if you need something looked up or to call someone else. Very, very important. If you have a problem, it's often easier to have someone from the outside solve it.Shut down everything you have on autopay. Amazon? Netflix? Hulu? Comcast? Car insurance? Shut it all down (unless it must be paid and you will have enough money in your account to cover it.)If you need someone to access your accounts online, leave a spreadsheet of the logins and passwords with someone you trust. Really trust.Find the facility you are going to. Find the instructions for sending mail to inmates. Send these instructions to anyone who may send you mail.Put a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers in an envelope. Have someone mail it to you after you go. Copy these into your address book.Get tax extension paperwork, if you need it.Make a reading list on Amazon. Share it with people. Ask them to mail you books.Ask as many people as you can to send you $10–20/mo. on your inmate account. Remind them. Write a letter each month. This is now your job.Ask as many people as you can to send you $10–20/mo. to your bank account/PayPal for when you are released. This is soooo important. Remind them. Write a letter each month. This is now your job. I cannot overemphasize how important this this. If you think prison is hard, try getting out…If your facility has a mail order catalog, find someone to order shoes, some sweats, decents socks and undies, a watch, etc. If you can drop $200, it will vastly improve your quality of life.Prepare a power of attorney if you think you'll need it. Give it to someone you trust. If you have a home, give control to someone you trust. Have them rent it out for you.Make an emergency dental appointment to get your teeth cleaned. Tell them it's an emergency. Ask if there any cancellations. Get anything fixed you can get fixed. Do it, do it, do it.Have any extra property that might disappear? Sell it ASAP. Turn it into cash. Put the money in a savings account. Ally Bank has 2.2% interest. If the facility will let you put money on your books on arrival, take money in the manner their rules require. Could be cash, could be postal money order. Go find out. Before, print out calendars for each month you will be there. Mail them to yourself. If you can afford it, set whatever accounts you have in autopay. But make sure there's enough in the account to fund whatever you got. Reading material is like gold. You will not regret it.Many facilities have a Summer and Winter care package program. Find out if you're eligible. You usually have to order a few months ahead of time, with strict deadlines. Arrange to order things you cannot get via commissary. (Spices and sauces are usually top of the list.)Accept that, in all the above, people are going to screw you over, take your stuff, and forget about you. You're about to learn who your real friends are. Prepare to be terribly disappointed.

Why is China not giving in to Donald Trump's trade deal?

Why did China not give in to Trump's demands? Well first they were demands not negotiations. The idea China would make concessions of 300 million dollars is laughable considering America imports 5 times more goods than it exports to China! That America owes China 2 trillion dollars out of it's national debt alone. 2 trillion dollars!! And the fact that China will be the global economic superpower within 8 years followed closely by India. That a country of over 1 billion plus people mainly live beside the coast overwhelmingly due to its fishing industry. The entire country of China can be powered by solar power alone which it is transitioning to do.Why do you think such a country would give into the “demands” of a man who wears fake tan, a wig, is a compulsive liar and who just recently said he was “the chosen one”. The second coming of Christ. You couldn't make it up!!Just a few things you neglected to mention. China builds nuclear power plants for other countries, builds high speed trains across Africa, which puts it in a very good position at the UN. The same UN where Trump was laughed at.When Trump was considering imposing tariffs against China the Chinese responded with 5 words. “Don't even think about it”. Trump did think about it then rambled on about how China would pay for the tariffs, much in the same way Trump said Mexico would pay for the wall. Then asked Congress for over 5 billion dollars to build the wall. China will not pay for the tariffs considering its leverage over the US, globally and economically.Trump delayed implementing those tariffs on 1st September 2019 after China announced that it would be imposing tariffs on electronics, farming machinery amongst many other American based companies located in China in retaliation. Trump didn't want American consumers to know that they are paying for his trade war. Not China or any other Country. That's the only reason he delayed the tariffs in September, to avoid a massive price increase in goods just before Christmas time. Including Apple, Dell etc. There's a list of some American companies based in China who will face tariffs in the link below.American Corporations in ChinaThat's a very small list of American companies based in China who would be tariffed/taxed and the American consumer would pay for the additional tax as the company would increase the RRP of the product. Not China, not the companies. The American consumers. It's not an extensive list by any means but gives you some idea of the power of China and everyday goods used in America you probably didn't know were actually made in China.Congress has already given 28 billion dollars to farmers in the Mid West who grow and sold Soy Beans to China. China now buys it's Soy Beans from Brazil and Argentina. China has signed a 10 year deal with Brazil to buy Soy Beans from them. They will never buy Soy Beans from the USA again. So that's the farming business destroyed by Trump. You also forgot to mention that America is headed for recession because of Trump's trade wars. That's why “China won't give in to Trump's demands”. They have absolutely no reason to. Trump's tax cut for the rich didn't work because trickle down economics doesn't work. The rich American companies didn't invest, build new businesses, create new jobs. They kept their tax cut…. in the bank. With an American recession looming that's where that money will stay. The middle and working class are actually worse off now as their tax breaks are lower. You have no idea how hard the world is laughing at Trump and America. A man who lost 1 billion dollars between 1985-1994 and prefers to trust his gut, the same gut that couldn't turn a profit on a casino. And refuses to take advice from people who know more about global economics because he's a stable genius. He's an idiot who has brought the USA to the brink of recession. America is not even invited to meetings of global leaders anymore because the world has had enough of Trump's isolationist, MAGA, climate change denial, racist bully boy tactics who lock asylum seekers up in cages. The only export America is capable of is selling weapons of war, invading weaker oil producing countries and supporting Israel who make the Palestinian people live in the largest concentration camp in the world where people are not allowed to leave by sea and basic humanitarian aid isn't permitted into Palestine by the right wing Israeli government backed by America. America who give Israel 3 billion in aid each year. Why do you think they do that? Israel is America's only ally in that part of the Middle East.At the same time International charities aren't allowed to enter Palestine to provide relief to the Palestinian people. Their ships are carrying aid for a humanitarian crisis NOT weapons. They have been repeatedly threatened, blockaded and have even been fired upon by the IDF. The IDF have opened fire on the Press as well. America supports this as well as incursions by the IDF who just randomly shell buildings from tanks. American tanks. That's why China didn't give into Trump's demands. Because the world is watching the downfall of your racist government and laughing at your weak impotent threats!!Dear America, we won't miss you and you have one man to thank for your downfall in a record time of less than 3 years. Congrats!!Edit: To the American who reported my comment because they live in the same alternate reality Trump lives in, where the truth is non-existent, anything negative towards Trump or the Republican Party is fake news. And must be removed from public view so no one can read an accurate fact based assessment of what is actually happening in the real world. And just why exactly, “China didn't give in to Trump's demands”.Trump's demands do not concern China. Trump can demand whatever he wants. That doesn't mean countries of the world take Trump in anyway serious. They don't.EDIT: Quora first deleted my answer because it was reported. Upon appeal and a moderator actually reading my Comment It has thankfully been reinstated. Next time you could just try replying to me and pointing out how you think I'm wrong about anything I wrote or what it was exactly you disagreed with that violated Quora’s Be Nice, Be Respectful policy. I have never reported anyone because then what I write wouldn't be true and I wouldn't have any faith in my own thoughts and words. Instead what you did was the cowardly thing and had my answer removed by pressing a button. I feel sorry for you. Not too sorry mind. I'm Irish.Everything I wrote is true. America is heading for a recession all the while embarking on an isolationist path that “the chosen one” lead you on. Denigrating, insulting and deliberately lying to the American people, American war heroes, isolating America's closest allies and trading partners which at this point I see as being irreversible as other countries don't trust or your “fake news”. Just blatantly bringing disrespect to the office of POTUS, committing at least 10 counts of obstructing justice and ordering subpoenaed witnesses including AG William Barr who is not Trump's personal attorney to not attend Congressional hearings. In a country where supposedly nobody is above the law.. We won't miss you!! Goodbye.Good luck buying Greenland lol it only gets more ridiculous. How can you think this is normal? This is quite long for a comment lol I'm just going to make it an answer.**ADDENDUM**Now Trump wants to hold the G7 at his own golf club at Doral, Florida. He has already broken the emoluments clause by having foreign dignataries stay at Trump Hotel Washington DC. Trump is not only suggesting that the G7 is held at his hotel. He is actually advertising his hotel (which is in debt, it's run apparently by Eric Trump) part of me wants Trump to be reelected because he is so stupid it's actually funny. Listening to him talk about climate change or any topic is hilarious. Describing how the air travels over the ocean because the Oceans are small, verbatim. The oceans make up 71% of the planet. Trump literally doesn't understand anything. As much as I love America the government is controlled by a Constitution from 1788. Change needs to happen. On the other hand I truly believe Trump will be arrested for tax fraud as well as smaller charges including violating the emoluments clause which is actually a serious crime. The World including China are watching Trump make a fool out of himself daily. I already wrote about the secret service saying Mar-a-Lago being impossible to secure. The arrest of a Chinese spy who was running a brothel there. Out of all the places the G7 could be held Trump advocates and advertises Doral for free. America I hope you are watching the man destroying your country in disgust. Also I appreciate the upvotes. This is my second answer about Trump the other got nearly 900 votes. Kind of weird to me. But I have kids. I can't answer how much your BMW is going to cost right now. Given the tariffs on imports I imagine somewhere between an extra 63%. I will try to answer your questions when I have time. I'm an aerospace engineer, a husband and father of 3 young kids but I'm also kind of a smart ass. Cheers!Slán

What was the gist of the Republican arguments against impeachment in the floor debate before the votes? What are some quick responses to them?

The Republican arguments all fell into just a handful of categories...~40% of them were attacks on Democrats and their motives, accusing them of only doing this because they hate Trump, or to undo the last election, or because they don't think they can win, and that they've been trying to impeach him since the day he was elected. That last one came up the most."only doing this because they hate Trump" — Well maybe there's that, and all the crimes. So I guess not only. Mostly just the crimes, abuses of power, obstruction of the investigation, attempts to subvert the next election, things like that. But it's fair to say that people tend to dislike someone who does those things. And for what it's worth, many Dems explicitly denied hating Trump."just trying to undo the election" — That really makes no sense. I mean, in one respect, every impeachment would do that, so are they mad at the Framers? I'm guessing not so I guess we put that aside and simply point out what should be obvious—the person who would take over for Donald Trump if he was removed was also elected in 2016, and Democrats are no fan of him either. Upon successful removal, it's hard to think of any policy that would suddenly flip toward the way Hillary Clinton would've done it. Maybe a tougher stance against Putin and other dictators, but that's probably true of anyone not named Donald Trump. Also, if they wanted to undo the election and it didn't matter what Trump did, why'd they wait so long? And are they forgetting that no one thinks actual removal by the Republican controlled Senate is likely?More on that here: Are Democrats not concerned that by impeaching Trump they’ll be making a hardcore theocratic conservative the new POTUS?"because they don't think they can win" — That's what Dems say too, only in the other direction. Why else would Trump keep seeking to benefit from foreign election interference? Also, when people are aggrieved at their opponents cheating, it kind of goes without saying that the cheating would harm their chances.“because they abandoned the Mueller obstruction charges and needed something else” — Nothing has been abandoned. Mueller testified right before the August recess and literally the day before Trump's infamous Ukraine call. Congress returned in September to learn of Trump's scheme to coerce Ukraine into interfering in the upcoming election. Dealing with the crime in progress was prioritized over investigating previous crimes. They’re also still trying to get the witnesses to appear and just won the case in court a few weeks ago, but the administration is appealing. They’re waiting for the courts on that one because it’s less urgent than the crime in progress. Funny how waiting for the courts is called abandonment, but not waiting for them is called rushing the investigation. For more, see this answer."they've been trying to impeach him since the day he was elected" — So what took them so long? I guess they weren't trying very hard. I mean he was named as a co-conspirator in a crime that sent his lawyer to prison, but that didn't do it. They received an extensive report saying he obstructed justice ten times, but eight months passed before he was impeached for something else. And these were hardly the only offenses they could've pursued impeachment for. How hard could they have been trying if they were itching to do it and ready to jump at any old excuse, yet let all these golden opportunities go by and didn't actually do it until someone blew the whistle on something that wasn't on their radar at all? And then only 2 articles? Why not all of them if they're just doing it out of hate?Republicans mention 95 Democrats voted to impeach over other things, as if that means they didn't have reasons, but doesn't that mean some Democrats wanted impeachment but weren't getting anywhere because the rest were voting them down? So apparently most weren't actually trying to impeach from Day 1. Apparently something changed. Like…oh I don't know…getting caught in a scheme to coerce a foreign state into election interference via trumped up political investigations? That sounds an awful lot like what Democrats have been saying, so thanks for playing this out.~30% of them were complaints about the process, claiming there wasn't due process, they couldn't ask questions, they couldn't call witnesses, etc."there wasn't due process" — Due process mostly comes at the trial stage (in the Senate), not the investigation and indictment stage (in the House), but Trump was actually offered lots of opportunities to be involved and declined all of them. They invited him to be present with counsel, to testify, to ask questions, to provide exculpatory evidence, etc. He not only declined, he did everything he could to bury the evidence and keep witnesses from testifying."they couldn't ask questions" — I don't know where they're getting that, because they could and did. They had equal time every step of the way. More on that here."they couldn't call witnesses" — They could and did, but some of their witnesses didn't go well for them, and some of the witnesses they wanted had no direct knowledge of what was under investigation. If they wanted to get someone present for the call to come in, that would've been fine. If they'd wanted someone who interacted with the President on the matter, that would've been fine. If they wanted someone who touched any of these issues at the White House, State Department, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, etc., that probably would've been fine, too. But no, they wanted the son of a political opponent, a former DNC staffer, and the whistleblower who was promised anonymity, has no first hand knowledge (as Republicans repeatedly complained), and has been subject to intense threats of retaliation. They also wanted to call the chairman of the committee investigating as a witness, as if that was a reasonable request that ever had a chance of happening.I covered 10 of their process complaints in more detail in another answer: What are responses to the Republicans' various process complaints during the Trump Impeachment Inquiry? Also, I hate to take a page out of their book by questioning their motivations, but I did say from the beginning that no matter what the process is, they will find a way to complain about it, because complaining is the point. They'll intentionally break a rule so they can complain about being shutdown, or make an outlandish request, or complain about something innocuous, get their way, and then complain in the opposite direction. It doesn't matter, because complaining about process is their chief defense in the court of public opinion and integral to their messaging strategy.~20% of them were off-topic brags about the economy (or other accomplishments), as if whatever credit he can take for that would eliminate all the evidence against him. If a corporation has a good year, does that mean the CEO gets a pass on embezzlement? It’s also funny how the even better late ‘90s economy didn’t save Bill Clinton from impeachment by Republicans. In this off topic section I’ll include the arguments that we shouldn’t impeach because there are other things to do. The “we should be doing other stuff like dealing with the opioid crisis” arguments are strange, as if they’re a reason not to impeach someone a majority of the House thinks committed impeachable offenses. It also pretends the House isn’t working on other issues. It’s actually passed close to 400 bills, most of which are still awaiting Senate action.~5% were whataboutism / tu quoque arguments claiming others have done bad stuff too and weren’t impeached, or he’s no different than Democratic presidents of the distant and recent past. I can’t remember all the claims to fact check, but some were definitely false. Much of what was claimed about Obama were gross distortions of reality that clearly passed through the conservative media kaleidoscope a few times.Abusing the office for personal gain is something others have done — So it’s all good now, right? His obstruction was the same as other presidents and just a normal part of the give and take that should be resolved in court — It’s actually quite different. No other President ordered the absolute, unqualified, indiscriminate denial of all witnesses and documents. Presidents have asserted privilege to challenge certain requests, but never a blanket refusal, nothing like Trump’s across the board refusal to cooperate at any level in any way for any reason, regardless of relevance or merit. No one else claimed Congress had no right to investigate a President. For example:Obama provided thousands of documents and let his Attorney General and Secretary of State testify, and that was under normal oversight, not an impeachment where the powers of Congress are at their peak.Clinton provided written testimony and a sample of his blood! He also allowed his personal secretary to testify.Nixon instructed Executive Branch employees to cooperate and testify voluntarily.Additionally, other Presidents acknowledged Congress had legitimate oversight and impeachment rights; Trump does not. Other Presidents acknowledged there are limitations to their power; Trump does not.The remaining 5% was split between substantive arguments about the facts and miscellaneous personal trivia. The only actual substantive argument that came up much was breezed through and stated without explanation. It's effectively a slogan at this point. They say there are "4 facts" that refute the allegations: “no pressure, no conditionality, they did nothing to get it, and they got the money.”Each of these could be its own extensive answer, but briefly:"there was no pressure on Ukraine" — Of course there was pressure, the world's most powerful nation made a demand of a weak nation in their most desperate hour, and kept asking for it again and again and again and again, while withholding things the desperate nation badly wanted. How is that not pressure?"there was no conditionality" — There was absolutely conditionality, as testified to by numerous witnesses. Perhaps they could get new witnesses to testify to that at the trial, but so far no one has.More on that here: Republicans defending Trump say Ukraine eventually got what they wanted without doing the investigations, so it must not have been conditional. Is this a convincing defense?"they did nothing to get the money" — Well they did, and they almost did exactly what was wanted, a public announcement of an investigation (on CNN no less), but the scheme was exposed, so the aid got released and they canceled the CNN appearance. And Ukraine still hasn’t gotten the White House meeting, despite being an ally begging for one (though their invader, Russia, got two)."they got the money" — Only after Trump was caught. A bank robber putting the money back isn't the same as never robbing the bank in the first place. And even then not all of the money was able to be delivered because it had been delayed so long they ran out of time and it took a new act of Congress to reauthorize it.And it certainly doesn't erase the bribery offense: Some Republicans are arguing that, while Trump might have attempted to bribe the Ukranians so they would investigate his opponent, it never went through, so "no harm, no foul." Is this a valid defense? Those “4 facts” they're hanging their hats on are pretty shaky, and lacked witnesses and evidence supporting them. No wonder they spend all their "debate" time on process complaints and ad hominem attacks. One or two also went back to their old "it's all hearsay" and "there's no first hand evidence” claims, which are highly misleading, often wrong, and actually prove the validity of the obstruction article. You don’t get to order all witnesses and documents withheld and then complain there’s no direct evidence. It’s an impressive display of chutzpah, but clearly not a good faith defense and Congress is right to reject it. If allowed to stand, no president could ever be held accountable and the “sole power of impeachment” the Constitution gives to the House of Representatives would be rendered utterly meaningless. At that point the President would be above the law, able to do anything he wants with complete impunity, including cheating on elections so not even the voters could stop him.A number of Representatives quoted Benjamin Franklin’s answer to the question, “What have you given us, Mr. Franklin?” “A republic,” he said, “…if you can keep it.”I’m not sure this fits under the substantive heading but there were also some throwaway claims that there were no crimes, which of course isn’t true, either. There were crimes detailed in the voluminous impeachment report. This article by former prosecutors also does a great job explaining the crimes connected to his Ukraine shakedown: Federal Criminal Offenses and the Impeachment of Donald J. Trump (from a site rated highly factual & “Least Biased”).What's really noteworthy are the defenses we did not hear.We did not hear anyone say Trump's behavior was actually perfect. We did not hear anyone say they would do the same thing for their campaign. We did not hear anyone say Trump cooperated with Congress. We did not hear anyone say look at all these things Trump did that weren't obstructive. We did not hear anyone say Donald Trump would never do those things you say, or that he's an honest man, a good man, a man of character who would never do the things he was accused of.We did not hear anyone say Trump was not going to try to get his 2020 opponent investigated, would not do any of these deeply concerning things in the future. We did not hear that he was remorseful, that he's learned his lesson, that he understands why his actions might look bad to some and that it won't happen again. And of course, we did not hear anyone claim he did not try to get Joe Biden investigated. Some may have claimed he’s not his political opponent or he had a good reason, but that basic fact is completely uncontroverted. From their lack of substantive defense and lack of affirmative endorsement of his actions or character, there is almost an implicit acknowledgment that this man is indefensible, even by the highly sycophantic partisans of his party. They attack the investigators, but they don’t truly stand behind the man accused, endorse his behavior, or offer any reassurance that it won’t happen again. If I missed anything I’ll come back and add it, but sadly the arguments really were this flimsy and repetitive, so this is pretty much the gist of it.For more answers like this, check out: Political Clarity, Demystifying U.S. Politics.

This software is very similar to Adobe's e-sign that I used for years in my former job. It is secure, intuitive and offers all of the same functionality as other e-sign programs that I've used. While I'm currently using the free subscription because I won't be sending out more than 5 agreements/month for now, I do plan to upgrade once I have a need. But even with the free version limitations, this software does everything I need.
