A2A. I can only speak for myself. I've had lots of students who've recently arrived from India in my graduate school courses. Some of my courses involve both oral presentations and written documents. These students are bright and they took their high school and undergraduate education in India. They speak English well. Americans often say that Britain and the U.S. are "two countries separated by the same language." Their accents, idiomatic expressions, and prosody are all somewhat different from the regional dialects in the U.S. Most of the people from India that I've taught were taught British English. What's noticeable is that today's people from India seem to speak and write in a way that was common with Brits 100 years or more ago. It is a more "elaborate" way of expressing oneself, which contrasts sharply with 21st century standard American English, which continues to move toward shorter declarative sentences with few elaborative clauses. And there are expressions that sound odd to the American ear, like "I will do the needful." Most Americans would not even know what that means. People from some regions of India seem to have a propensity to use their heads while speaking, moving their heads left and right. This is different from the way Americans use non-verbal language. There is no judgment applied to that difference; it's just interesting in the way that Australian accents and idiomatic expressions are interesting.
