Growing up in America I had never even heard of Anders Behring Breivik case.This man looks innocent enough, right?Wrong.He is a terrorist who has killed more than 70 people.On July 22, 2011 Anders planted a car bomb in Regjeringskvartalet, Norway. It is the executive government quarter.The bomb was placed in a van outside the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. At 15:25:22 it went off and killed 8 people, 209 were injured.Killing 12 people wasn’t enough for Anders, and so less than two hours later he traveled to the island of Utøya, in Tyrifjorden, Viken. On this island was a summer camp called the AUF, the youth division of the ruling Norwegian labor party.He showed up to Utøya in a homemade police uniform. Anders showed officials his false ID and they bought it.He then open fired in the summer camp. Killing 69 children, and injuring 110. Some kids ran to him because they thought he was a police officer who could stop the shooting, he then killed them.The only way off the island was to swim. As people swam he shot them in the water.According to several witnesses he screamed “You are going to die, Marxists!”A few victims who had been shot, but not killed pretended that they were dead, yet he came back and shot them again.Survivors hid in bushes, attempting to contact real authorities to come and save them. The shooting lasted for an hour and a half. Finally the police surrounded Breivik.The teenagers who survived his attack had barricaded themselves in a common building. Others had hid in a cave.After Anders was arrested he was deemed insane.And his reasons for the attacks?He was islamophobic. He considered himself a knight who was trying to stop Muslim immigration into Norway.Anders also had a militant far-right ideology. And a xenophobic point of view. The summer camp that he shot up was going against everything he believed.He wanted to make a point by the car bomb outside of the Prime Ministers office.This is an absolutely awful catastrophe. I was shocked I had never heard about it until I was leafing through true crime pages on Wikipedia one day.Rest in Peace to all of his victims.Love,Lyla

The prison systems in the scandinavian countries are quite the same, so i’m going to give you an Norwegian example here, but know that it works pretty much the same in Sweden.Meet Anders Breivik:In 2011 he detonated a car bomb in Oslo, killing eight people, and then went to the island of Utøya where a left wing youth summer camp was held, dressed as a police officer, killing 69 people, nearly all of them children.Breivik’s cell is comprised of three rooms, and he sued the government over being held in poor condition, giving the example that he was only granted a Playstation 2 rather than a newer console.Guess what? The Court ruled in his favor.Take that in for a minute. A terrorist, a massmurderer of children, with three rooms including a gym and a study, was successfully able to argue that he was held in poor conditions citing that his video games console wasn’t of the newest generation.What does that tell you about the standards our countries hold our prisons to?

He went on a shooting spree with an assault rifle and killed 77 people, mostly children.I think the word terrorism is very often misused, but this was the most clear-cut act of terrorism I know of, second only to 9/11. It was a political statement with the intent to scare people away from the opposing side.
