I had my basic training in a German Army armored reconnaissance battalion and I “absolutely” hated many things there:The food was really crap. Even worse was the coffee. Too weak and not hot enough, I’m a coffee addict, things like that really matter to me.When you were a recruit, all the other soldiers of the battalion looked down on you. As we were the only company that had to go in marching formation to the chow hall, everyone else tried to get there before us. As a result, you always had to wait in a long line to get your lunch. This meant that you never had enough time to eat.German army camps are almost always at the end of the world. Public transport was as good as nonexistent and aside from the typical army pub, there was nothing you could do on your free days.Our captain was a real asshole and his second in command was even worse. German armored recon officers are all arrogant pricks but these two were the worst of the worst.Officer candidates got preferential treatment. This was maybe the biggest BS during my basic training. We had two officer candidates who were really nice guys but only average soldiers. Still, they passed every test with the best marks.Fortunately, after I had completed basic training, I was transferred to a really good unit with excellent comradeship and decent officers.

They were treated very well among the Scots, I know there was a few fights between us and the us about how to treat the black soldiers up here and in England too especially in the pubs and got a few of white US soldiers barred for racism, especially in the argyle army pubs
