Are you aware of the fact that idol worship is prohibited in the 'Vedas' which is considered as a highly sacred book by Hindus?

Are you aware of the fact that idol worship is prohibited in the 'Vedas' which is considered as a highly sacred book by Hindus? If you think the ‘Vedas’ is a single book you seem a little uninformed. Sounds as though someone told you that idol worship is prohibited in the Vedas, and you think ‘the Vedas’ means a book like ‘the Qu’ran’ or ‘the Bible’. However it’s not that simple. If you want a quote from ‘the Vedas’ then here is one from Bhagavat Purana. My dear King, when great sages and saintly persons saw mutually disrespectful dealings at the beginning of Treta-yuga, Deity worship in the temple was introduced with all paraphernalia. SB 7.14.39We learn, again from ‘the Vedas’, that the beginning of Treta yuga was more than a million years ago, and Treta yuga follows Satya yuga, when there was no need for deity worship. So initially there was no deity worship but after the halcyon days of Satya yuga ended it was introduced to help mankind achieve perfection. In Vedic terminology an idol is different to a deity. An idol is a concocted form that is purely material and no different to any other piece of matter. A deity or archa vigraha is an authorized form of the Lord that is represented in material elements. The archa-vigraha form can be made of different elements, namely a form within the mind, a form made of wood, a form made of earth, a form made of metal, a form made of jewels, a form made of paint, a form drawn on sand, etc., but it must be made according to shastra. One cannot put a broomstick on an altar and worship it. One cannot invent a new form of the Lord, carve it out of wood then worship it.Once the authorized form is made, there is a ceremony to invite the Lord to enter the form and accept worship. This is called pran pratishtha, and then after the ceremony is performed there should be no reduction in the regular daily worship.Because worshiping the Lord in His archa-vigraha form requires a certain level of purity and cleanliness, it is not for everyone. If there are no people qualified as pujaris then it is best not to even bring up the topic. People addicted to eating meat and other impure activities, and who are unaccustomed to bathing twice a day throughout the year, should not be given responsibility for serving a deity directly. They can watch from outside the deity’s room.If you have an entire culture in which the minimum necessary requirements for deity worship are lacking, then there is no point in introducing the archa-vigraha form of the Lord as it will lead to offenses. If you do not know what the prescribed forms of the Lord are, then again it’s best to avoid and forbid anyone from trying to come up with their idea of what God looks like. But if there is a culture that fosters the qualities of brahmanas, and if you have clear descriptions of the forms of deities, and accompanying instructions on how to worship them, then you are good to go. In Kali yuga it is not so easy to find sufficient numbers of qualified brahmanas for steady deity worship. To offset this problem the Lord incarnated and propagated the chanting of the Lord’s names. Therefore chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra is more powerful than Deity worship. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu set a practical example in that He did not establish any temples or Deities, but He profusely introduced the sankirtana movement. Therefore people should give more stress to the sankirtana movement, especially by distributing transcendental literature more and more. This helps the sankirtana movement and will help everyone find the peace and happiness they seek. For those that don’t know any of this, it’s best not to concern themselves with what others are doing and concentrate on doing the best they can with what they have.

Why is idol worship inferior to the Abrahamic form of worship of God?

An idol can be real or false. It is a representation of God in material elements. For those who don’t know what God looks like, or how He can be represented in material elements, it is never to be encouraged as some people will worship anything and anyone because they aren’t very intelligent and have fertile imaginations. When dealing with such people it’s best to just say “don’t worship God in any form, it’s not for you.” These people should be instructed to love God, pray to God, serve God, obey His commandments, and be nice to others without involving them in worshiping the form of the Lord. When a person is at the stage of understanding that the Lord and His form are the same they can be introduced to Deity worship. This is real and not false. The authorized form of the Lord known as a ‘murti’ or ‘archa vigraha’ is installed by performing pran pratishta by qualified people and the worship can begin. Such worship varies from temple to temple. Here in Mayapur we worship by offering 64 upacharas.64 upacaras which are offered throughout the day are listed in Hari Bhakti Vilasa and Chaitanya Charitamrta. The sequence has been rearranged and divided for better understanding. This will give some idea of the type of service that should be offered in the temple.Early Morning activities:Waking the deity with vedic verses, praises, instrumental music.Offering a twig for brushing the teeth.Offering mangala aratrika.Shouting jaya on seeing the deity.Offering pranamas to the Lord before entering for puja.Offering the Main Upacaras:Inviting the Lord (avahana), offering him a seat (asana), and making him comfortable (svagatam).Washing the Lord's feet (padyam).Offering arghyam as a sign of welcome and respect.Offering water to wash the mouth (acamaniyam).Offering madhuparka, then water to wash the mouth.Offering the Lord shoes so that he may come to the bathing place.Cleaning the Lord's body with a damp cloth to remove old candana etc. (murti samskara).Rubbing the Lord's body, especially the head, with fragrant oils.Bathing the Lord in flower water.Bathing the Lord in milk.Bathing the Lord in yoghurt.Bathing the Lord in ghee.Bathing the Lord in honey.Bathing the Lord in sugar.Bathing the Lord in water consecrated with mantras.Removing oil, ghee, etc, with flour, then warm water.Wiping the Lords body with a soft, dry cloth (anga vastra).Dressing the Lord in upper and lower cloth.Offering gayatri thread (upavita).Offering acamana again after dressing.Arranging the Lord's hair.Decorating the Lord with bracelets, necklaces, rings etc.Offering kaustubha and other wonderful jewels.Offering various colors of clothing, belts, turbans, capes etc.Offering flowers to the Lord's lotus feet. Applying gandha to the Lord's feet with a tulasi leaf.Offering incense.Offering lamps.Removing inauspicious influences, the glances of evil persons by mustard seeds etc.Offering naivedyam.Offering spices (mukha vasa).Offering betel (tambulam).Offering a couch for the Lord to relax in.Offering gandha again and decorating the Lord's body with tilaka designs.Offering the Lord a crown.Offering varieties of flowers and garlands.Darshana:Offering a mirror.Offering camara and umbrella.Singing.Playing instruments.Dancing.Offering aratrika.Taking deity to a special mandapa.Bringing the Lord back to his throne.Bhoga Offerings:Offering foot wash, mouth wash again.Offering another meal while burning incense.Offering betel, then performing aratrika.Concluding Puja:Recitation of verses (stuti)Circumambulation of deity (pradaksina)PranamasTouching ones head at the lotus feet of the Lord (astanga pranama).Taking caranamrta and flower prasada on ones head.Taking the food remnants of the Lord.Night service:Sitting at the feet of the Lord ready for service.Making a nice bed for the Lord, with soft cloth, flowers and nice scented powders.Offering ones hand to the Lord, and offering him his shoes, to bring him to the bed.Receiving the Lord at the bed with great festivity.Washing the Lord's feet, then drying them, offering gandha, flowers, betel, condensed milk, fan.Having the Lord lie down in the bed and massaging his lotus feet. The offering of upacaras is sometimes divided into groups (padma Samhita), according to the change of location of worship. First comes the sapraya asana, where the Lord is worshiped by offering asana, svagatam, foot wash, arghya, mouth wash, madhuparka, mouth wash. The Lord is then offered shoes and led to the bathing area or snana asana, where he is offered toothbrush and tongue scraper (if not offered when first waking the deity), where oil is rubbed on his body, and where he is bathed. After the Lord is dried, he is offered shoes and led to the alankara asana, where he is offered cloth, upavita, ornaments, flower decorations and garlands. After this the Lord may go out of the temple on procession in a palanquin. This is called yatra asana. This is sometimes done in meditation. The Lord is offered shoes and invited to the bhoga asana, where he is offered asana, padyam, acamana, arghya, and water for his hands, a meal, drinking water, water to wash hands and mouth, acamana, tambula. The concluding elements of chanting mula mantra japa, offering it to the Lord, asking forgiveness for offenses, circumambulation and obeisances is called mantra asana. Putting the Lord in a bed to take rest is called sayana asana.Substitutes for Upacaras:If any of the above items are lacking, one should still perform worship, by substituting flowers, raw white rice, barley, tulasi or pure water for the articles. At the time of offering the article which is lacking, one should say the mantra for offering that article and meditate on its presence as one offers the substitute (water etc). The water or flowers may be discarded in a vessel for that purpose. Thus even the poorest person, with only a few copper vessels and pure water, by use of mantra, meditation and devotion, can worship the Lord in full opulence and receive the greatest mercy from the Lord.Respect for the Upacaras:The Lord's clothing , bedding, slippers and everything required as an ordinary necessity, are all transformations of Sesa Visnu, the expansion of Sri Baladeva. Thus the cloth and other paraphernalia of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are but other forms of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Everything connected to the Lord is worshipable.According to etiquette things used by Krsna should not be used by anyone else. Similarly things used by the spiritual master should also not be used by anyone else. That is etiquette. Whatever is used by Krsna or the spiritual master is worshipable. In particular their sitting or eating places should not be used by anyone else.CC Madhya V.6p.119Whatever standard of worship one follows and whichever authorized form of the Lord one chooses to worship, the standard should be maintained. If a whole culture doesn’t know the procedure for Deity worship, and doesn’t know in what forms the Lord can be worshiped nor how to install the Lord, then it’s better to ban any worship of statues because there is maximum chance that false idol worship will result which is not helpful for anyone except those inventing and selling idols.Since the Abrahamic traditions worship God as Supreme, even if they don’t know what He looks like, it’s better than worshiping a false idol like a broomstick, scarecrow or some other imaginary form, thinking all your desires are going to be fulfilled.

Do parents in the US have the legal right to stop a child from working?

Absolutely!US Child labor laws restrict the types of jobs and the hours that youth under age 18 can work. They also prohibit workers under age 18 from using certain equipment. Many state laws restrict it further. So, it depends on what state you are in. Most laws in the us are state not federal laws.In the state I live in, Washington state, a employer needs to get a signed parent permission and during the school year a statement form the school. If a parent feels the job is a bad idea then they don’t sign it and the teen can’t take the job and the employer can’t hire them.An employer must have the following information about each minor worker on file at the minor’s work site:Proof of age The date of birth must be supported by proof. Acceptable forms of proof are: ƒ A driver’s license or passport. ƒ A Social Security card along with either a birth certificate or a baptismal record. ƒ A notarized statement of a parent or guardianEmployment description Earliest and latest work hours, total number of hours of work daily and per week and a complete description of duties.A Parent/School Authorization form The Parent/School Authorization form must be completed by the employer, signed by the parent/ guardian, and by a school representative if the student is working during the school year. It must be kept on file at the minor’s work site. The employer needs to renew the Parent/School Authorization form when it expires every school year in September, or when the minor’s schedule changes. A summer Parent Authorization form can be used during summer break or when a minor has completed their high school requirements.A 16 year old in Washington can only work 4 hours (8 hours Fri.–Sun.) per day. No more than 20 hours and not more than 6 days a week. Only 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Midnight Fri.–Sat.).A parent can give a special variance to work if the student is not going to school full time because they have finished most of their classes. There needs to be “good cause”. Then they can work a total of 28 hours per week.“older teens may have a reduced school schedule or have shown that they are able to work additional hours on top of their school schedule and extracurricular activities. The parents and the school can grant permission to work up to eight extra hours during the school week. They must complete the Special Variance section of the Parent/School Authorization form.”The only exemptions are that a 16- or 17-year-old may work non-school hours during the school year if he/she is married, a parent, possesses a certificate of educational competence (GED), is registered in accredited college courses or is emancipated under Washington State law.Under all these conditions you may note the parent does not have to give permission and the school and deny it too. If an employer hires without this they can be in big trouble. Many people both parents an teachers and scientists feel that teens working is not a particularly good thing. Teenagers' Work Can Have Downsideshttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2936460/Employer checklist. Here’s a checklist of what an employer needs when hiring a minor:A Minor Work Permit endorsementA signed Parent/School Authorization formProof of minor’s agePersonal data and employment descriptionTeen WorkersCalifornia also has a permit the parents must sign if a teen is going to be able to work. If the parent thinks it is a bad idea then they don’t have to sign it.Information on minors and employment Here is the from. It is not legal without the parent’s signature. https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/dlseformB1-1.pdfThe upshot is that, in many places, teens need signed parental permission to legally work. The parent have the duty to decide. The teen can not work without permission.

Instead of having to stand at the scanner and scan countless individual documents I can scan a stack and then separate and sort them within the program. Huge benefit.
