When I was thirteen one of my best friends was a guy named Terry. He was the perfect All-American boy, with looks, grades, athletic ability, and money. He and I were the best players on our baseball team, and he seemed destined to go somewhere in life.As we got older, Terry quit baseball in favor of cocaine. Being more interested in baseball and less interested in going on nightly benders, I slowly stopped associating with him. But we went to school together. I saw him at a couple of parties. Normally at this point, the justice system would do its work, and Terry would face consequences for what he did.But Terry’s grandfather was an influential senator. So consequences worked differently for Terry.Instead of facing any sort of repercussion for (or admitting to) what he’d done, Terry (with the help of his grandfather’s lawyers) decided to pursue an “alternative education plan” for his senior year of high school.I assumed there was some sort of punishment inherent in the “alternative education plan.” I don’t want to throw him in jail forever, but I figured the girl and her family deserved something. At the very very least, an admission of wrongdoing and an apology seemed in order.Then I saw one of his Instagram posts. It showed Terry with AirPods in, on the beach, was tagged “Nassau, Bahamas” and featured the caption “we still rollin’ here.”Bahamas?I learned that Terry was spending his junior year of high school sailing between tropical islands, attending school on a boat that costs a hundred times more than my house, on his “alternative educational plan.”Rich kids using daddy’s money to escape consequences makes me want to vomit. Not only has Terry not admitted to any wrongdoing, he’s on a yearlong cruise through paradise straight out of a romance movie. He will face no consequences for changing someone’s life forever.

She inculcated a habit in me that still remains an addiction.The question deals with the effectiveness of alternative education in India. In order to answer the question we must first know how open are we in India to ideas of alternative education. In my graduation days I was found most of the time roaming outside the class instead of sitting inside as the methodology followed by each and every teacher of simply dictating word by word from the prescribed text books annoyed me to the core. And without an iota of doubt I can profoundly say that it remains same for most of the Indian students and colleges.In India, we haven't accepted the notion of alternative education. Teaching through ppts and graphs still remains a distant dream ( just copying word to word in slides from the text book and dictating the same doesn't brings in any alternative education). Moreover, most of the educational institutes still love to teach within the contours of a traditional classroom. Theoretical knowledge still is preferred than the practical principles.Alternative education like use of technology will broaden the student mind. Nevertheless, alternative education is not just confined to use of technology in classroom teaching. Alternative education means teaching a student the art of automated process control by letting him know its practical applications followed by asking him to design one such model and then taking him to an industry for the on-field demonstration. All this will encourage student to participate profoundly in the knowledge exchange process instead of simply mugging up few designs.Alternative education may lead to severe decline in graduates that India produces annually as the methods employed in teaching will inspire and motivate students to follow-up their dreams. An instrumentation engineering student good in writing may choose to make his career in technical writing instead of core engineering after going through an out of the box class on designing technical papers.With more and more use of alternative education in India we will shift gradually from being just a service based industry to doing all sorts of work ranging from research to manufacturing.
