“If someone hits you, hit them back…”My mom was always worried about me, and as a single mom she was always afraid of me getting hit by some uncontrollable child. So she taught me that lesson above. Unfortunately in school even if its self defense as soon as you hit the person back you’re automatically in trouble. Of course my mother never cared about the trouble just if I was okay.So around in the 2nd grade some kid decided it was funny to smack me whilst picking on me. With my mothers knowledge in mind I immediately looked at him and punched the kid to where he lost his balance, fell, then broke into tears.My mother heard of the story and obviously was a bit upset that I had gotten into trouble for “fighting.” But she didn't care in fact she was happy I fought back for myself. Left a bad mark for that school year, which honestly me and my mother didn't mind….(note: my mother is from Macedonia and how they deal with things compared to the US obviously is very different)funny story

How much does it bother you not to have close friends in your peer group?If you feel like your mental health is suffering from it, then you should try to do something about it. I’ve had the experience of going to school with a demographic that simply didn’t have a lot in common with me and struggled to make friends in school. The solution is to find an extracurricular activity that isn’t tied to your school, but is tied to your interests. Look into weekend art classes, community theater, volunteer work, rock climbing, whatever you like. Odds are good that you’re going to meet people that share your enthusiasm, which will give you a good basis for making friends.If you don’t feel like socializing is all that important to you, then by all means focus on your studies. The only drawback is that interpersonal interaction is a skill that needs to be learned and practiced, so if you deliberately ignore that aspect of development you’re making a trade-off. On the other hand, it’s a bad idea to take too many social lessons from high school, since there’s a lot that won’t apply in the adult world. If you feel like you connect well with people who are older than you, then you’re probably okay on that score.
