How do I show proof of two or more years of driving experience in order to exchange an Alberta Driver’s license with a US driver license?

Depends on the state you are getting your US licence in. Some states offer reciprocity, in that you can exchange your AB licence for the same class licence in that state; Classes 1–4 (which are commercial licence classes in the US) are usually exempt from this. Other states will require a written and/or road test to get a licence. If your current AB licence card was issued less than two years ago, but you have more time than that in driving experience in AB, you will need to request an operator’s licence abstract, which is obtainable at any registry office that offers operator’s licence services. To order from outside AB, here is the website from the AB government with the process: Get a driver's abstractNow the process to go the other way is similar. If your US licence card was issued less than two years ago, then you need to order a driver’s abstract from the state your licence is from and take it with you when you apply for your AB licence. I do believe that AB does grant full reciprocity for class 5/6 licences from the US, so no knowledge or road test is required unless you are put into the graduated licencing program for lack of two full years driving experience. The way your question is worded, I assumed that you are going from Canada to the US. Looking at your Quora history, it actually appears that you came the other way. I provided an answer for both directions to cover the bases. I am further going to guess that your US licence is from California. The process to order a CA driver abstract can be found here: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/online/dr/welcome. You’ll need an official one, so you have to download the form and order the abstract by mail. That all said, you really don’t have to do all this, but in AB you would be forced in the graduated licencing program and have to take the advanced road test to get a full licence.

Is it easy or difficult for international students in Canada to find a job after graduation?

First off let me start by saying that I was an international student who graduated with an engineering degree in Alberta in 2003. At the time, the policies around the post grad work permit and immigration felt like they were made to keep you out of Canada as soon as you graduate (a shame). I am happy to see that the rules have now changed for the better and become more accommodating for international students to land a job after graduation.Anyway, back to my story. I stayed on with student’s life after an undergrad, did a master’s degree for two more years and landed a pretty decent job after that thankfully through my network. But you cannot be geographically constrained. You gotta move to where the jobs are, my friend. Those entry-level cushy jobs that pay you well enough to live in a new-built condo in a yuppie neighborhood and buy a cuppa joe every morning on your daily walk to work … it did not exist then, and it does not exist now. Mark my words. Nothing good in life is ever easy or handed out to you on a silver plate. You have to work to get things and go places. And how much you accomplish in life depends on how hard you work. Remember that if it is worth achieving, then it is worth working hard for. And this holds true for everyone regardless of citizenship, immigration, work permit, or visa statuses.Fast forward to 2016, Canada’s job market is very stagnant if you have not already noticed. It will be hard for new grads to land good, stable jobs, and that much harder for those without relevant co-op/work experience. New grads, your first job will unlikely be the stuff of your dream. And you might land a “job”, maybe, but a “career” will be harder to come by. But remember that it is never about the now, but the future potential. We all have to work our entire career to get somewhere. Your dream job simply will not happen right away. One day it will come. I know that sucks but remember that the rest of us (or the 99%) has to go through the same struggle. You build your career as you go along. There will be opportunity to fast track, and you will get your chance, but you have to initiate it because nobody else will look after your career better than you do. Again, this depends on your field of study. For energy industry in 2016, especially upstream oil & gas, forget it. Won’t happen this year. Hope for a rebound in 2017.Words of advice: get a Canadian driver’s license and learn to drive before you finish school! Most international students I knew never learned to drive because the cost of a car, fuel, parking, and insurance are just too expensive compared with walking, biking, or taking public transit to university. But that does not change the fact that driving is such an important life skill to have in Canada or in North America for that matter. If an employer asks whether you have a driver’s license, you want to be able to say yes! If a job description states that the job requires a valid Class 5 or a clean driver abstract, it means you WILL need to drive as a part of your job.Remember to stay positive in a job interview. Any trace of negativity will always come through. Companies are using all the technologies to help with the hiring process now. On top of the phone interview, they sometimes do a Skype meeting or ask for a video recording of yourself and analyze all kinds of behavioral metrics behind the scene. I have serious doubts on the effectiveness of these “virtual interviews” whether they really contribute anything positive to the hiring process. I know for sure they effectively make the candidate more nervous… Anyway, I digress. Just put your best foot forward and be your authentic self and you will do just fine. Most importantly, don’t make excuses for your shortcomings in life! People will recognize one when they hear one, and nobody wants to hear excuses.
