What questions should I ask to find out if a psychologist/psychiatrist is a good fit for me?

I think this is a great question to be asking. You should certainly interview a few psychiatrist/psychologist/therapists to see what can be offered to you as treatments. I would check that the person I was seeing was appropriately trained and licensed to practice in the therapy they are delivering to me. Then I would check that they are good at what they do, maybe via recommendations.Scott D. Miller has done some interesting research on what makes therapy effective. He designed the session rating scale to help therapists get feedback from their patients in order to improve their practice. There's also an Outcome Rating Scale to check things are progressing towards the goals. The Session Rating Scale asks the client to rate the session on 4 questions.1. I felt heard, respected and understood.2. We worked on what I wanted to work on and talk about.3. The therapist's approach is a good fit for me.4. Overall, today's session was right for me.(These are the positive ends of each item)I am not sure how likely you are to find a psychologist, psychiatrist or therapist that already uses these measures explicitly but many will incorporate feedback questions into their work without necessarily using the form. If they do use it they should be treating any deficit on any question as very important to investigate further.Maybe the key question for you is 'are they asking me for feedback about how they are doing?'You could ask yourself these questions during and after your first session and I think it will help you evaluate whether the person and approach are right for you. One caveat is that at an initial assessment you may have to answer other questions that are part of a standard process.I would be particularly wary if you find yourself steered into working on what they think your goals ought to be, rather than what you want to work on.

How likely is it that the U.K. will be in the critical stages of the Coronavirus like Italy?

Right now the death rate in the UK due to Coronavirus, for closed cases, is 91.25%.Typically, this death rate starts unnaturally high, as only the sicker patients are recorded, and the disease takes time to recover from, so there simply aren’t many recoveries. We can, however, use this line to approximate where the disease is in it’s “lifespan”.You can see Italy here.Back in late February, there was a spike in the death rate, as well, up to 87.5%, followed by it trending back down, to around 45% where it is now. Eventually, this line will trend towards the overall COVID-19 mortality rate, of ~2–10% of reported cases (in reality, many cases are unreported, so the actual rate is likely lower. China trended to ~4%).At that spike in late February, Italy had just 229 cases, and then it exploded. For the UK to have 22,000+ cases and this outcome of case recovery rate is very worrying. This is China, during the recovery — earlier, in January, the case outcome rate was also well above 50%.Many countries show this “cross” pattern of a sky high “official death rate” early, then a plummet as the recovery rate “catches up”.Even in South Korea, that managed the disease brilliantly, with testing on a massive scale, had this spike, though blunted. For the United States, this chart was strangely absent, though even countries like Algeria had it.A very high death is a sign that things are early, as people have no yet started to recover yet. This, plus the fact that royalty, the Health Minister, the Prime Minister and his chief adviser all have gotten it, does not bode well.Follow me on Instagram for daily diet and training tips! Keep that immune system strong :)EDIT 4/2/2020 (China Time): Case death rate is now 94.57% but due to reporting this isn’t accurate.Still, deaths at time of writing were 1,408; two days later 2,352. Cases from 22,141 to 29,474. A 13-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old man passed yesterday. This is serious. Stay “TF” at home.

Do therapists question their own effectiveness? Do you compare yourself to other therapists?

My hope is that therapists question their own effectiveness with every client. That is, therapists should not just assume that they are effective but look for concrete indicators, both small and large to clearly assess their effectiveness. And therapists should always endeavor to improve their effectiveness both with each client during the therapy and with new clients. The one factor that is easiest to improve on is the quality of the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. This can be easily measured using simple measures such as the Session Rating Scale and the Outcome Rating Scale (and there are a few others, but none so easy to use). Once measured if the therapeutic relationship appears to be suffering that therapists can address the problem.
