PDF Editor FAQ

Was Ted Bundy a malignant narcissist or a sociopath or both?

Since I am not a professional I can not give you a diagnosis for him,I can only speculate.Dr. Al Carlisle evaluated Bundy after his first arrest in 1975, before anyone realized the enormity of his criminal career. A psychologist at the Utah State Prison, Carlisle was asked to do an evaluation for the court. “I spent about twenty hours with Bundy on the psychological assessment,” he told me for a chapter in my book The Mind of a Murderer. He came away with valuable material.Carlisle believes that there are many factors that influenced Bundy’s development. Although Bundy blamed an addiction to pornography, Carlisle views this as simplistic. His interest lies in showing how Bundy crossed the line from sexual fantasy to murder and necrophilia. He makes a few assumptions that some Bundy experts will resist, but he relies on a considerable amount of research. Carlisle is also one of the few mental healthexperts to have spent time with Bundy in different types of situations. He proposes that the ability to repeatedly kill and also function as a seemingly normal person (who aspired to become governor, for example) develops through the gradual evolution of three primary processes:1) Fantasy – the person imagines scenarios for entertainment or self-comfort2) Dissociation – the person avoids uncomfortable feelings and memories3) Compartmentalization – the person relegates different ideas and images to specific mental frames and keeps boundaries between themSource:Imagining Ted BundySo,based on what is written up here ,Ted Bundy was very good at Emotional Compartmentalization.Machiavellians are capable of Emotional Compartmentalization. This involves consciously or subconsciously suppressing or "compartmentalizing" or "sectioning off" upsetting thoughts and emotions in order to justify engaging in certain (sometimes questionable) behaviors. In the interviews, Bundy described a conflict between “the normal personality” and an “entity” that slowly began “to demand more of the attention and time of the individual.” At one point, he compared the entity to a cancer, though he remained unsatisfied with the metaphor, as “one has no control over…a malign tumor, and yet, one would think that an individual would have control over the development of something purely psychological.” Bundy claimed that the entity was “not an independent thing,” and that “this person” was fully aware of his actions, and knew the difference between right and wrong, but suggested a gradual process during which the entity’s power became overpowering, and “finally, inevitably—would make a breakthrough,” and lead “this personality” to kill.Ted Bundy said in his last interview:Before we go any further, it is important to me that people believe what I’m saying. I’m not blaming pornography. I’m not saying it caused me to go out and do certain things. I take full responsibility for all the things that I’ve done. That’s not the question here. The issue is how this kind of literature contributed and helped mold and shape the kinds of violent behavior. In the beginning, it fuels this kind of thought process. Then, at a certain time, it is instrumental in crystallizing it, making it into something that is almost a separate entity inside.Bundy described the part of "this personality" that found gratification in the thoughts, and later acts, of sexual violence as "the entity," "the disordered self," and "the malignancy." The schemes or ruses used for isolating and abducting his victims, were a result of fantasy, and attributed to the "Ted," or dominant part of the personality. An example of emotional compartmentalization involves a phenomenon discussed by numerous soldiers and marines in their memoirs and oral accounts of what is required of them (emotionally speaking) to engage in warfare. Many of them speak of psychologically preparing for battle by temporarily storing away all of their feelings, fears, anxieties, anger, and sadness into little "mental boxes" or "psychological compartments."This coping technique enables soldiers (and surgeons) to focus one hundred percent of their intellectual and emotional energy on the incredibly difficult (and often emotionally traumatizing) task at hand: engaging in a battle in which they may be compelled to take the lives of others, or they may be severely wounded, or they may even be killed. Obviously, this coping device serves a clear purpose during battle, because if a soldier were to allow himself to fully experience his fear while actively engaged in combat, he might become emotionally paralyzed and unable to fight.A person who can engage in such dangerous, potentially (self)destructive behavior, while simultaneously going about his usual day-to-day business as if nothing is wrong, is not only a classic emotional compartmentalizer ... he could actually be described as a "master" of the craft.UPDATE:Confessions of a Bundyphile / An opinion-based review of Ted Bundy and his crimes by E.J. HammonTed Bundy was a necrophile, plain and simple. This wasn’t something he wanted people to know, but he did admit it to Stephen Michaud & Hugh Aynesworth when they interviewed him in the 1980’s. After killing a woman, he would take her to a secluded area (usually Taylor Mountain while he was still killing in Washington state) and spend the night with her corpse. While he was there, he would put makeup on her and then have sex with her body. He would often return to the bodies time and again to continue his sexual assaults. This was the ultimate form of possession to Bundy, which was his main goal when killing.Ted Bundy once said, “Murder is not about lust and it’s not about violence. It’s about possession.” This is probably one of the few true statements he ever made to investigators. In fact, when investigators found only the skulls of several women on Taylor Mountain, they realized he was dumping heads separately from the bodies. Bundy later admitted to taking some of the womens’ heads home with him where he applied makeup to them and he alluded to further sexual contact with the heads. For Bundy, the act of murder wasn’t the highlight of the event. It was only after Ted conked the victim in the head and drove her to a secluded outdoor scene that the real “fun” began. The sexual assault on a woman who was either unconscious or dead was the end game. Bundy’s fiancée, Liz Kloepfer, even confessed that he liked her to pretend to be dead while they were having sex or he couldn’t have an orgasm. Psychologists suggest that necrophiliacs tend to have an inordinate desire to control another person. I can’t think of a better way to describe Ted Bundy than extremely controlling.Necrophiliacs develop poor self-esteem that may be due to a significant loss. Furthermore, they suggested that necrophiliacs may be fearful of rejection by others and that they desire a sexual partner who is incapable of rejecting them. Here, necrophiliacs may be socially and/or sexually inept and may hate and/or fear the opposite sex. This causes them to seek out non-threatening, subjugated sexual partners (i.e. non-living people). Alternatively, they also suggested that necrophiliacs may be fearful of dead people, and that they transform their fear into a sexual desire. Perhaps unsurprisingly, necrophiliacs almost always manifest severe emotional disorders.Dorothy Otnow Lewis, a psychologist who interviewed Bundy for seven hours, diagnosed him as a manic-depressive. She concluded that he committed his murders during depressive episodes. His pathology may have been due to his relationship with his grandfather, Samuel Cowell, a church deacon, who was described as a "tyrannical bully". Samuel was a known bigot, who hated African-Americans, Hispanics, Italians, Catholics, and Jews. Bundy stated that Samuel also tortured small animals, including neighborhood dogs and cats, and kept an extensive collection of "odd" pornography in his greenhouse. It would later be revealed that the pornography was of a violent nature; rape, torture, and mock-snuff.Necrophilia can be accompanied by ‘‘sadistic acts’’ and sexually motivated murder, certainly not behaviors associated with fetishism (as currently defined).Homicidal necrophilia certainly seems to be a distinct sub-category of necrophilia. A recently published study by Michelle Stein (John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York, USA) and colleagues reviewed 211 sexual homicides. Nearly 8% involved necrophilia (i.e., 16 cases). Their findings suggested that the most common explanation for necrophilia (i.e., the offender’s desire to have an unresisting partner) may not always be applicable in cases where necrophilia is connected to sexual murder.Dr Mark Griffiths, Professor of Gambling Studies, International Gaming Research Unit, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, UK

Feedbacks from Our Clients

Thank you Icecream apps for creating a brilliant and easy to use screen recording app. I paid for the Pro-version which gave a me 2 licenses with unlimited recording minutes. I use one for personal and 1, I put on my work laptop. I seriously impressed a customer with it, I was able to record some progress on a project and then immediately gave them a recording on a usb stick so it could be payed back to someone who couldn't make it to the meeting. My mainly use it for personal use, for recording those things that I do once in a blue moon. ie. my own how to videos. I guess it would be good for making youtube video's too. I highly recommend getting the pro-version to gave you the unlimited minutes, and can record and save in different formats.
