As per news reports, he is in a paying hospital, i.e., he pays to the hospital.On 10 January 2019, Jharkhand High Court had rejected the bail application of Lalu Yadav in 3 corruption cases in which he had been convicted (in fact, he is convicted in 4 cases). As far as I understand, he has not got bail orders from the Supreme Court after rejection of his bail by High Court.So, officially, he is undergoing his imprisonment sentence. But, he is in comfortable environment of a hospital. Unlike many poor persons, who have to actually spend their imprisonment in unliveable dirty conditions of a jail.Moreover, he is openly misusing this special treatment that he has got as a VIP prisoner.He is not supposed to play politics and not to issue any political statements, while being in jail. But, he keeps doing it quite often. An ordinary citizen (while in jail) will never get these privileges.Remember, a prisoner is not allowed to have a mobile phone inside jail. There are restrictions on people meeting him. His freedom is completely restrained (that is what a prison or jail is supposed to be).But, not for VIP prisoners like Lalu Yadav.Imprisonment can also be fun, if you are a VIP in India or if you have money.However, nobody bothers. I don’t know whether even CBI has complained to the court on these issues.That is the difference in India between an ordinary person and a VIP.And, on the top of it all, he calls himself a socialist.And, and, ..., people will still vote for his party.
